Why, yes. Superheroes are going to get cool vehicles soon!

There are those awesome vehicles that are coming.

Every superhero needs a vehicle! The Batmobile, Wonder Woman's invisible jet, uh... the uh... the Spidercar? Superman's SUV? Captain Planet's Prius?

    ...yeah.

    The Unofficial Cryptic Response.

I've had to wait a month for telepathy powers that would have otherwise been done.. personally I hate vehicles, full stop. I don't need a reason beside that.. but then you add to that the massive imbalance provided by them and I could scream. And they aren't that cute.. that's a subjective opinion but i own it.

Yeah, I've got exactly ONE character who would buy a vehicle, so I'm not exactly excited about seeing this new "content".

And now he has a Bike that can drive on walls. And here we are again at my other idea
for the next new Gimmicks :

    Wallcrawling Devices ..

believe me .. chance to get them is much higher then to get instead something like REAL content *sigh*

That would be nice. Some explorable content, new Adventure Pack, new Comic Series, new Zone... Something that requires us to bring some environmental / map-making artists.

I heard that Doctor Destroyer will be returning in a 10 man Custom Alert. He will be using Orbital Cannon Deathray to 1 shot every hero with 1 shot. Only way to defeat him is to use Hover Tank from 250 feet distance.

    Vehicles aren't something superheroes use?

Oh, I forgot that all of them fly. And wear tights. And fight cheesy villains.

And that this game's tagline was 'be the kind of hero that Silver Age fanboys want you to be'.

Silly me, thinking that comics had actually changed through generations and evolved to embody a huge variety of concepts. Why, next thing you know women will be able to vote and we'll put a man on the moon.

    LOL, +1

With that said I'd rather they have spent all that time they did on vehicles on something else.

If there had never been a COH there would never have been a CO.

Yeah, I kind of agree here, the one thing I don't get is why they keep porting stuff from STO that will NOT fit in here, vehicles are the CO equivalent of STO's ships, but most of us can fly,run at the speed of sound, teleport, jump vast distances, etc. while some heroes might get them, I admit I have about 2 or 3 out of around 10 that would use them, everybody else can get around on their own power, so if vehicles are meant to be exactly like the STO ships,I can't see this financially ending well, new zones and possibly even a DLC pack of a new zone or massive adventure pack or comic series would have been a much better decision to bring money in.

Aw, come on! What part of an Alert isn't "real" content? You get a whole instance for you and four other random people, with a couple of art assets thrown in there to disguise the fact that it isn't anything but a single square room with a bunch of random enemies you get to Tank-n-Spank, and you get to do "group" content with no actual group mechanics TOGETHER!

People finally got that group content they've been asking for and they've got constant Alerts running all the time, with a steady stream of "new" Alerts been added once in a while to expand on the list of small single square locales you can visit and boss-type enemies you can fight using mostly the same tactics that apply everywhere else (i.e. you Tank'em, and you Spank'em) and the same type of objectives (there is your enemy, and he/she is "bad"--Spank them as you Tank!). What more could you possibly want?

    /sarc

PS and on Topic: In fairness to Cryptic on the matter of vehicles... vehicles are something people have been raving about for ages. It's been one of the most commonly brought up topics throughout this game's life. People have been going for the last three years "GIMME SUM VEHICLES--NAO!!!"

And we would be like *sighs and throws hands up in the air in frustration* "THIS topic again? They've been telling us it CAN'T be done for ages, people. Search feature, anybody? We would LOVE to have us some cars but it's been said that it can't be done so shut it already." And now they finally pull it off and people are like "WTF asked for this vehicle $#!7? How DARE you give us some vehicles, Cryptic? WTF is our content?"

And I'm like... "cognitive dissonance, much?"

Granted, I agree that I'd rather have some "real" content rather than vehicles for which there is no "real" vehicle-specific content to use them for. And that just giving us vehicles for the sake of giving them to us is just likely to be one more in a long line of "cool" ideas that get released half finished, then are later neglected and forgotten and get nowhere (since the game was never really setup with the idea of vehicles and special made content for it to begin with). And overall I think that new zones are currently more important for the future of this game than adding a new shoehorned mechanic.

But it seems to me that people are forgetting that this vehicle stuff is something that a large number of people raged about for ages and it was one of several hotly debated topics throughout this game's life. It's not like Cryptic pulled the idea of giving us vehicles out of their ****.

So yeah, I believe that having us some "real" content is more important. But its not like this vehicles stuff came out of nowhere.

Even though players did ask for vehicles,we've been asking for real content for even longer than that, and if I remember correctly, people wanted vehicle TPs, which in retrospect I see why they can't be added, but to me it seems more like they try and try to take everything STO has...morph it into something for CO, and say there, new stuff, buy it now!, instead of giving the one thing we all need, actual content as in new missions, adventure packs, and especially zones.

I'm guessing that part of the reason might be that they can sell you the vehicles but new zones and "real" playable content costs more to produce and there is no money in them*.

Also, I'm not sure that we've gotten that many things from STO, and the one thing people keep asking from it (the Foundry) isn't even on the horizon.

*for Cryptic at least. Other F2P games seem to sell content successfully somehow, yet Cryptic tried with the Adventure packs and evetually ended up giving them away for free.

    Spider-man had a Spidermobile once.

    It got blown up.

The Spidermobile I remember didn't blow up. Mysterio caused Spider-Man to take a wrong turn while driving it and he drove it off a dock.

Then I forget which villain, plucked it up from the water and turned it into a remote control car, and he chased down Spider-Man with it. It got trashed in the fight, and then Spider-Man returned it to the guys who had commissioned it, all trashed and stuff. Left it hanging outside their window.

I never asked for vehicles, all my characters can fly. No coggy dissy here.

I don't even care about new zones... since they'd probably just be like the old zones with new art.

I just want more engaging, faster-paced gameplay that makes me feel like I'm having an epic battle. As it is right now, I really just feel like I'm applying effects to targets.

YOU never asked for vehicles, smoochan. I understand how it doesn't appeal to YOU.

However, a lot of us DID ask for vehicles. And I'm not stupid, either. I'd have rather waited another year for vehicles and get a complete product. I also don't recall people freaking out and begging for them. As I recall, it was more like "That would be cool if we had them!" and less "This game REALLY needs vehicles!" It was a more 'funsie' idea than it was a game-changing requirement. The masses weren't crying out for them nearly as much as they were for other things. I'll admit, even I was a bit shocked at the effort they put into an off-the-cuff idea.

But, I'm getting really tired of the whole 'I don't need it, I don't have characters that use it, this is a waste of time' statements. My character doesn't need vampire wings, animal heads, glowy armor, the ability to turn into a flying skull, a become device, or about 50% of the things in this game. Doesn't mean it's a waste of my time.

I'm pretty sure when people said they wanted vehicles, they mainly just wanted a travel power for bad-**** normal heroes other than athletics.

    Not full on customization spaceships

    Not vehicle mods

    Not vehicle missions

Unlike updates in other super hero games, CO doesn't have the resources for many updates a year, and them blowing this whole vehicle thing into some major fullscale expansion update certainly does feel like a waste of my time.

Pretty much this. Every single post I saw talking about vehicles was talking about them in the context of travel powers.

And pretty much this. A lot of things have been asked for on these forums, at no point did I see anyone asking for them to add STO to CO. I would have rather seen them start working on some of the things we actually did ask for rather than something completely unrelated to... wait... this sentence seems really familiar.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

To me it sounds like the 'spoilt brat' mentality. Yes, new content is always nice. This is actually new content. Whether it's content you like or not is irrelevant, and throwing toys out of the pram over content which isn't relevant to X or Y is just silly. There are things I may or may not use, there are things I may or may not like. But that doesn't mean that they should be hated on for simply being present.

Hey, I don't do golden age spandex-laden superheroes. Let's remove all stereotypical heroes from the game - both powersets and powers. Because hey, if I don't use them, it's not relevant! That's a ridiculous sentiment. Not everything is going to be relevant to everyone. But Cryptic are no doubt looking at what people are saying they want, and they feel there are enough people interested in vehicles to include it.

For all we know, the people moaning about it here could be a vocal minority.

I wasn't expecting vehicles, either, to be honest. But they're here, now. They're a new form of content. And they're going to be fun. Throwing wobblies about how it's not golden age spandex-laden content is just immature, and it makes the community look bad. The better thing to say is: Okay, vehicles are here, fine. They'll no doubt be fun. But once you're done with them could you look into these ideas I have?

Instead, what we're getting is: Vehicles bad! Cryptic, you bad! You remove vehicles, I no use! You get rid of or you get smashed! RARGH! My ideas are best! Anything that isn't what I want sucks. You'd better listen to me, Cryptic, or me get ANGRIER!

And really, who does that help?

Congratulations on once again trying to oversimplify everything and insulting a large number of people in the process. Let's break this down for you...

The new vehicles are going to cost money.

The new content coming out is going to be centered around the vehicles. Yes, you can take part in the new content without buying one by either flying or using a 'loaner'. If the new vehicles are like the Hawkwing jets, that means any hero just using flight might end up being somewhat useless due to moving much slower and having an attack range only one fifth the range of the vehicles. I think it's a safe bet that the loaner vehicles will underperform the ones that can be bought by a fair margin as well.

This amounts to a lot of work and effort to essentially make something for us to buy. They want us to buy it so much that they're making content based around it as an incentive. Now here's the catch...

    No one asked for it.

People wanted vehicles as a travel power but, from what I can tell, no one wanted them to make vehicle style becomes. The hawkwings are broken and that hasn't even been addressed yet but they're already making new ones for us to buy.

You used costume pieces as an example in your post. Costume pieces take far less effort to make. They could make one or two costume sets per update and still put in a whole lot of other new things. That would mean the possibility that EVERYONE would get something they'd like rather than having just one thing pushed at us that a very vocal part of their player base has made it clear they don't want.

Also... that last paragraph? Pot. Kettle. You figure it out.

I wasn't insulting anyone. If you took it as an insult, that's your prerogative. I was stating the situation as I saw it.

    Apparently I hit a nerve.

    arimikami wrote: »

    Yes, yes they are.

And your counter-argument that follows suggests that they're suddenly going to start creating vehicle-only content. Just like the heli-carrier is. Except, no, wait... it isn't. Or just like they created exclusive content for the other devices. Or... no, actually they didn't.

Being rational is helpful, here. Donning tinfoil hats is not.

    arimikami wrote: »

People asked for vehicles. Just because it's a device and not a travel power doesn't mean that they wouldn't want it. You have a presence of people here who clearly do want these vehicles, as travel powers or devices. Maybe it simply hadn't occurred to them that as devices wasn't even an option, and that they were going for what they assumed to be the path of least resistance. (Since skinned travel powers were already a thing.)

There might be people (like me, or others here) who actually wanted vehicles in any form, who're happy about this, and like it. But hey, what you're actually saying is what I highlighted in my post. You're saying that only what YOU want matters, this isn't what YOU want, therefore, because other people want it but YOU don't, it must be dumb.

It's this part, quite specifically, that hit a nerve. I'm sure of it.

If they make a helmet for human heads, my beast characters can't use it. Your argument is invalid. In fact, it's outright intellectually dishonest, because even on a more basic level, if they make a power armour set, someone who's only into magical characters can't use that. So I think that you knew how intellectually dishonest it was.

You're not above arguing like that, are you? Okay. Fine. Just so I know.

You're not getting anything better so just make do with what you get. A handful of rice is better than nothing. I'll agree with you here... it's really pointless to delude yourself into believing that something better was ever even in the works, and to just pretend that you like what you're getting, or go do something else.

    auldwolf wrote: »

I'd like to know where you got the idea that this is about spandex costume sets, seeing as spandex costume sets could in no way be considered new, and only partially represent the type of costumes that super heroes wear. Keep in mind, this thread has a context, and nowhere in that context is "golden age" or "spandex" included.

I have to disagree with you here, for the same reason I agreed with you on the first point. Don't delude yourself into thinking they're looking into your ideas; no matter how politely you ask, they're not interested. Just keep pretending that what you're getting is great; in fact, pretend it's exactly what you wanted, because that's really the only way you'll feel satisfied. Ignorance is bliss and all that.

Unless you pay to play this game, then you should probably do yourself a favor and demand more for your dollars.

You're not getting anything better so just make do with what you get. A handful of rice is better than nothing. I'll agree with you here... it's really pointless to delude yourself into believing that something better was ever even in the works, and to just pretend that you like what you're getting, or go do something else.
Well, that wasn't really my argument to begin with.

My argument was that people should stand up for what they want, but they should do it in a sane way. They should say what they want, but not at the detriment of something else.

Currently we have: Argh! Vehicles! I hate vehicles! Vehicles suck! People that like vehicles should go screw themselves, because I hate 'em! I hate 'em soooo much! See, the devs shouldn't be making things that you like, they should be making things that I like.

    That helps no one.

In fact, that creates a divide, and it really gets under the skin of people who actually, genuinely like the vehicles (and I do, I think they're a bit of fun). This approach is only going to burn other people in the community and make you unpopular.

What I'm suggesting? Create a thread, say the vehicles were great for those who liked them, but you have some ideas. And you want some community support to show Cryptic that this is something the community is very interested in. Turn it into a petition and gather up some names and comments, ask people to use their actual forum names when signing it.

Do something like that. Be constructive. Throwing a wobbly because the content isn't the content that you want will just make Cryptic roll their eyes collectively and move on.

    smoochan wrote: »
I'd like to know where you got the idea that this is about spandex costume sets, seeing as spandex costume sets could in no way be considered new, and only partially represent the type of costumes that super heroes wear. Keep in mind, this thread has a context, and nowhere in that context is "golden age" or "spandex" included.
Exactly. I was making a point about what a minority might want. From the perspective of the reader, it sounds like we have a minority throwing their toys out of the pram and hating on all content which isn't relevant to their interests.

Please, please, please tell me you see what I'm getting at, here.

It doesn't make them look big, clever, or relevant. It makes them look small, and angry. It makes them look like a minority that's never getting what they want. And Cryptic is just going to ignore that because they need to look at the bigger picture for the success of their game. Hating on the existing content isn't going to make things better.

Hating on the existing content will just cause problems. So don't. Instead, present your ideas without hate, vitriol, or bile.

It isn't my position to do this for you guys because I like the vehicles. You have to do this. And apparently some people are obstinate and stubborn. They don't realise that, hey, I might actually be on their side, if they'd stop being so bull-headed and proud, if they'd actually just shush for a moment and listen.

But what do I know? I'm just a proponent of getting things done.

    smoochan wrote: »
I have to disagree with you here, for the same reason I agreed with you on the first point. Don't delude yourself into thinking they're looking into your ideas; no matter how politely you ask, they're not interested. Just keep pretending that what you're getting is great; in fact, pretend it's exactly what you wanted, because that's really the only way you'll feel satisfied. Ignorance is bliss and all that.
And I agree with this, too.

If they didn't deliver on the promise of vehicles, the last thing I'd want to do is throw my toys out of the pram because of the new zone, the PvP updates, or whatever else they're working on. I'd be delighted for these things. Instead, I'd create a thread, and without any hate or bile, I'd tell Cryptic what I wanted, and I'd try and get some community support behind me.

    That's all I'm saying.

I doubt people are going to listen. But... people. People tend to rampage, and be angry Internet folk, nothing you can do about that. But goodness, wouldn't it be nice if they did listen?

    You don't like vehicles.

    Fine. Okay. Good.

    I like vehicles.

How about this? You like new zones. I like new zones. Let's get together and tell Cryptic that we like new zones. That we like new content. To try and figure out something that would have a broad appeal. Let's do that.

    Vehicle hate gets us nowhere.

I seem to recall that when vehicles were first being discussed, there was considerable noise coming from people who didn't want them to be "just a new travel power". They wanted their vehicles to do something, goldurnit!

Well, they do. And now folks are upset that vehicles aren't "just a new travel power". Just can't win for losing sometimes, you know?

Wasn't aware of that. The comments I've seen about it so far indicate that people wanted them to be just travel powers but, you've been on these forums longer than me.

Yepp .. this is exactly why i'm so against that whole vehicle stuff.

And thats also why i expect Wallcrawling Devices as the next "major content", since thats
also something that people constantly asked for and where was said it can't be done.

And your counter-argument that follows suggests that they're suddenly going to start creating vehicle-only content. Just like the heli-carrier is. Except, no, wait... it isn't. Or just like they created exclusive content for the other devices. Or... no, actually they didn't.

Let's take a look at what I said.
    arimikami wrote: »
The new content coming out is going to be centered around the vehicles. Yes, you can take part in the new content without buying one by either flying or using a 'loaner'. If the new vehicles are like the Hawkwing jets, that means any hero just using flight might end up being somewhat useless due to moving much slower and having an attack range only one fifth the range of the vehicles. I think it's a safe bet that the loaner vehicles will underperform the ones that can be bought by a fair margin as well.

Huh. Look at that. I didn't say it's going to be vehicle only, did I? Once again, congratulations for trying to oversimplify
    auldwolf wrote: »

Some people wanted vehicles purely as travel powers. According to one poster in this thread, others wanted them to be more but, at the moment, I consider that purely hearsay since none of those people have spoken up for themselves. I just don't care to argue that point, don't have the inclination to go digging through these forums for relevant posts, and don't think anyone else does either. Aside from you, I've yet to see anyone that actually says they want the vehicles and it's more that they don't see why others are annoyed with it and wish it would stop being talked about.

Also, to say the path of least resistance was taking time away from other aspects of the game to make vehicle becomes with their own powers and mods compared to making a travel power with a skin attached to it is laughable.

At no point in this thread have I said it's dumb nor have I said that only what I want matters. If you were to read through my posts again, you might see that's simply not true.

No, you haven't hit a nerve. Are you trying to? You say people are spoiled brats, mock them, insult their intelligence, and call them liars. It's sure starting to look like that's what you're after more than anything else.
    auldwolf wrote: »
How are they broken? I'm quite enjoying mine and I don't find it to be 'broken' at all.
I've already explained how. In fact, you responded directly to where I did explain it but, you did only quote one sentence so, maybe you didn't bother to look any further once you found something to argue. Are you even reading people's comments before responding to them or are you just skimming in the hopes of finding something to be contrary about? It's really starting to look like the latter. Or perhaps you think that exploits should be considered features.

Hey, I don't do golden age spandex-laden superheroes. Let's remove all stereotypical heroes from the game - both powersets and powers.
True, you said powers and powersets instead of costumes but, that's not what defined the golden age of comics and I'd like to think you're aware of that as well, although I am beginning to have my doubts. The golden age of comics was defined by it's look and it's storylines, not powers so, I don't consider it too large of a stretch in your example to think you'd be for removing everything that defines the golden age which would include costume pieces, especially considering that there's even a costume set labeled as Golden Age. Besides... point to one single power any comic book character had that is strictly a golden age power which comics don't use anymore. Do you see the absurdity of taking your comment purely at face value now? There's also the fact that player characters are heroes in Champions Online which means your comment could be construed as removing any Golden Age characters played by players from the game as well.
    auldwolf wrote: »
If they make a helmet for human heads, my beast characters can't use it. Your argument is invalid. In fact, it's outright intellectually dishonest, because even on a more basic level, if they make a power armour set, someone who's only into magical characters can't use that. So I think that you knew how intellectually dishonest it was.
Actually, it's not. Let's look at what I really said since it seems that some people don't bother actually reading before trying to argue.
    arimikami wrote: »
They could make one or two costume sets per update and still put in a whole lot of other new things. That would mean the possibility that EVERYONE would get something they'd like rather than having just one thing pushed at us that a very vocal part of their player base has made it clear they don't want.
See how one of those words is a different color from the rest now? You seemed to ignore that word when you tried arguing about what I said and it's pretty relevant so, I did something special to it just for you. Go ahead and click on it. I think you'll find the result of such an action fairly fascinating.
    auldwolf wrote: »
You're not above arguing like that, are you? Okay. Fine. Just so I know.
I have to admit I'm not entirely sure what you meant with this. I thought I'd been expressing myself pretty clearly. If you mean that when I discuss something with others I operate on the assumption that they're rational, intelligent beings that are also able to express themselves clearly who listen to what's said instead of only paying enough attention to lock onto something they think can be twisted and taken out of context to use against the others, then you would be right. I think it's the best way to debate topics. It's what I had been assuming of you but, the conversations I've been having with you over these forums combined with this...

Uh-huh. I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing how you think you're being clever, here. Maybe you could explain it to me? I must be slow.

I'm wishing they would enable an alter egoe one costume can be main civilian still having power and the other will be the superhero full powered and actually the non attachable if you want to the civilian side of the character, and if possible be able to change the name between them.
