Max melee damage/darkness

Ok, my team support/healer/tank is about done, so it's time for the next project.

So, I'm looking at a maximum damage melee toon with modest to okay survivability.

I lowered the number of attacks and slathered on FOUR offenses. Everything is geared to build up a stack of enrage and then laser sword combos until your fingers ache.

If this approach seems...silly...any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

Ah my good friend Mauk, I've been looking into this too. We must think alike because I was also looking into Spirit Reverberation for energy to fuel a Brawler Laser Sword toon.

But I think you forgot one of your SS has to be CON for the energy return from both Defiance and Spirit Reverberation LOL!

In any case, I have come to the conclusion that any Max damage toon has to have DEX for PSS for the Mastery w/Warden and Vindicator. And the highest damage melee power is Dragon Claws per second. For some crazy reason, on paper it should be Laser Sword but on PH vs. dummies it's Dragon's Claws easily. I think Laser Sword is taking longer than 0.5 seconds per stroke.

I'm still working on mine but I was looking at Quarry in Brawler role. And I have a Left Eye of the Dragon. Now I am mulling paying for a 4 slot Helm/Breastplate...

Are the Powerhouse dummies really an accurate representation of DPS? Don't they have unusually high defense values?

    Mastery: Dexterity Mastery (1/1)

this is my initial thought when someone mentions darkness/melee...
you can switch defiance for quarry, if you do switch rec for int and talent/innate accordingly.

you can also switch things like ebon ruin and shadow embrace for an active offense of your liking i dropped laser sword since i didn't see the point in having it on a darkness build
but if you choose to keep it, switch 100 hands maybe. you can take dark transfusion if you feel like it too.

oh and monsterdaddy did you test that out with quarry? cuz that would do it for dragon's claws, being considered physical dmg and all... for pure melee i like brawler vindicator more, offense is an additive stat so DR hits, haven't tested how hard tho. brawler with dex as PSS and vindicator and you get a nice % debuff going on your targets between the 3

I think the build is pretty solid, it has both ranged and melee covered up well, as well as being survivable. hope this helps

It is accurate for a RELATIVE comparison of DPS. i.e. Laser Sword vs. Dragon's Claws -- which defeats the dummy faster. I like this to compare which powers have better DPS.

For actual DPS, I believe the dummies are fairly good for Super Villain level targets who I heard have about 10% damage resistance. I tend to record the time in seconds to take out a dummy and then divide 33K (the dummy's HP) by the number of seconds to ESTIMATE actual DPS.

You will get some surprising results when you do this vs. calculating things on paper, i.e. the lower than expected Laser Sword DPS.

Serju, yes Quarry + melee role + Dragon's Claws testing. I kept Warden for Best Defence -- a nice boost in survivability plus a small boost to crit chance/damage. Obviously, Way of the Warrior is better for damage but that flat 18% dodge buff in Quarry is pretty unbeatable for defense for a melee role.

oh you don't have to tell me man, i'd take quarry over way of the warrior everyday of the week  it's a great passive when you know how to work it's magic.

that being said, when you can cover up the survivablity with your powers then you can see a significant difference.

as for testing DPS.... use the parser.

Very tempted to take Thundering Kicks and a Legion's BP of Agility with 2x Gambler's Luck to get 100% Dodge and pretty high avoidance. Problem is getting a dang Legion BP of Agility. Plus the Left Eye with a Legion Helm of Speed, hehe.

Okay, max is MAX, so dragon claws is in. I'm also worried about diminishing returns, so I am going to stick in some debuff. This next build should get 14-18 percent resistance debuff pretty easily.

I'm also worried about keeping enraged up, so I want another rage-maker or knock power, and I really want a lunge. Those are just useful.

    So, see what folks think:

With PSS DEX, you should be running Form of the Tempest as your form, not Enrage.

Also, since Parry-EM reduces your damage, I would run Force Shield-Force Sheath instead as my block, to maximize damage. This will also free up some adv points to put into R3 Athletics.

Don't be like the Qularr. They would not last one round in the Interstellar Galactic Arena...

quarry needs int, since the audacity stacks scale with it. switch to wotw. drop parry and take retaliation to maximize dmg.

masterful dodge and no bcr? huh? ok let me fix this...
