I'm in my civilian attire and displaying no powers whatsoever - I'm even wearing dark glasses to hide my weird glowing eyes...

SO HOW THE (yay) DOES EVERYBODY KNOW WHO I AM?

Seriously, does that bozo with the flying rodent obsession have to deal with this?

Hm. It would be interesting to have a 'Civvie Mode' toggle, wouldn't it?

I don't think things have to be one way or the other, here. Basically, with Civvie Mode on, you wouldn't have people running up to thank you for past efforts, nor would they offer you citizen missions.

But with Civvie Mode off, they would still do these things.

I actually think it's a bit of fun, and I quite enjoy it as those of my heroes who don't have secret identities. But I can imagine that if you're trying to roleplay a guy as his secret identity, having someone see through your clever disguise is annoying.

Hit a checkbox in the character-info panel and it flags that costume as "civilian". Yeah, that'd be perfect.

Obviously, you couldn't set -all- your costumes as civilian, but being able to set some that way would be very useful.

I can handle the occasional "Hey, thanks for taking down Mind inc.!" and whatnot. But I skipped the tutorial and I have a river of people gushing about the Qularr, nonstop.
In CoH, NPC's would gush about the stuff you recently did, but they would get over it. Yeahyeah you took down Kevin Poe but what have you done lately?

    They should nowadays say:

"Oh (insertnamehere), i love how many lockboxes you have opened within 24h".

    Or:

"Foxbat deleted every item at the pvp vendor, ty for trying to revert it (insertnamehere)".

Give them a break. They have to make money somehow.

And frankly, it's a hell of a lot more benign than Guild Wars 2. GW2 is straight up cynical in that you have to pay money if you want to be able to use those lovely waypoints, because otherwise you're going to run out of cash pretty quickly. That'd be like CO charging you money every time you started up your travel power, and then having to buy money from the C-Store to keep going.

I, and a lot of other people, quickly got sick of such cynicism and left GW2 in short order. The fact of the matter is is that, yes, there are a lot of lockboxes. And? It could be a heck of a lot worse. It could be so, so, so much more worse. If you want worse... just try GW2. I'm happy with CO where it is right now, to be honest.

I like the fanboys, but then again I'm really insecure. But it does make you feel like a hero.

Remember when they used to tell you about crimes you can resolve? I guess they think you are above that now.

Half the time with citizens, I feel kinda disconnected from them as they are. Sure, they come up to me when I do heroic deeds, and applaud me if I punch a guy in the face for doing nothing but wear gang clothes (seriously, half the enemies in the game are really just loitering, half of them don't even have any noticeable weapon on them until you punch them in the face because MMO), but it keeps on feeling like they're just... there. There's no real feeling of needing to protect them, hell, I put them more in danger with making things go BOOM all the time near their delicate soft bodies.

And then they can jump hella high because why not.

I would like a Civvie mode. Only civilian interaction I'd like during that mode is maybe the occasional one going "Hey, you look a LOT like $playername" or "Psst, don't tell anyone, but I think that is $playername!" "No way, man, it's totally that dreamboat, Foxbat!" "... Ew."

I like the praise and interactions you get from civilians especially clicking on them. But it's true it would be good if we could all have a civilian-mode, aka.. A Secret Identity!

For example a certain Professor Anthead isn't always wearing ripped labcoat and pants with a big ant head for a head... some of my characters have dual identities and others don't. Dr Cerebellum for example is the doc 24/7.

Having a way to handle that, like perhaps having a civie costume that has its own name etc would be awesome.

While the praise the citizens give is uplifting at times, it gets annoying when I make a "secret identity" costume and they come up and say "<Hero name here>! you totally saved us from Menton, or some other villain".Maybe if we could have special costume slots that could be "Secret Identity" slots in which civilians do not come and say whatever to you.

This is what we need right here, or something like it at the very least.

Can we set that to all of them? Because my number one annoyance is the endless and unstoppable river of people gushing about how I saved them from the Qularr - even though I skipped the tutorial and my background had me not even in Millennium City when they invaded.

Something I would suggest too is, if we have a Civvie mode (or, rather, could be phrased as an incognito mode, for when you're in disguise, but not necessarily as a civillian), then we need, unlocked at a certain level, a Celebrity mode, which actually makes them come to you MORE OFTEN to the point where one can have a circle of them around you. Some might even take photographs using the animation that exists for that.
So, we've got the mild mannered secret identities AND the big and brash and bold public identities sorted.

You think that is bad?? It CAN get worse.

I once had some random civilian run up to me....while I was in the air(I have flight) and the buildings were far, far below me....and give me a mission. I was like:  "WTF!!?? How did you get up here!!" It was kinda creepy too.
Edit: Especially since I was moving at the time and I thought they only approached you when you stayed still.
