We getting any new colors for powers yet?

I'm thinking shades of gray, shades of brown, black, and white

They have repeatedly said that white and black have technical problems as selectable hues and are not going to happen. Black and white (and grey by extension) can only be hard coded without breaking how the hue is applied.

The Dark Flight confirms that they will never implement black and white shades to powers anyways.

Powers like Shadow Wings and the powers in the Darkness and Celestial sets are ONLY black and white because they are hard-coded to be that color - that is not an option for other powers due to the way the game's graphical engine works.

Yeah. The powers need to be "hard-coded" to be black and white. That's my point. And its for sure now since that would make the Dark Wing purchase or alternatively the Phoenix Wings absolutely redundant.

I don't think it would, they both use different wing models. But yeah I'll just reiterate what everyone else has said here, it's too much work to do anyway.

They have different geo, materials and somewhat different FX. But yeah, the overall effect is similar.

We know you like black and white powers; since we don't presently have the ability to give you the black-and-white color shifting you want, we figured you'd at least like to fly around on wings of inky night.

Haven't seen Splosions posts for a long time, also, There should be more white hard-coded color powers and effects, Dark aura, Dark speed, And now Shadow Wings, When will we get a Light Aura?

I think the problem may be that black is a lot easier to work with than white. With white, you have a couple options; bright, which is kinda blinding an washes out detail, and flat, which is kinda, well, flat...

Let's put it this way, I think Millennial Flight was an attempt at a white power...

Cryptic uses the Hue/Saturation/Value color model. Sauration is how pure (100) the color is down to greyscale (0). Value determines how "bright" the color is from white (100) to black (0). Hue is the color as like from the rainbow.

The issue is that the game client only allows teh player to chance the Hue of powers. The light/dark aspect of the colors is baked into the graphics. It was the same issue that COH was confronted with. They have Bright/Dark options of power customization. The Bright/Dark graphics were High Sauration/Low Saturation.

However Cryptic chooses (if ever) to address the power colorization. It's going to mean a non-trivial change the the Game Engine. With CO being so low on the resource priority totem pole. I don't see it happening any time soon.

Well really the simple solution is just to do what the late CoH did and have 3 different art assets for each power effect. As lordfuzan said, they had an additional light and dark palette that just switched to a high saturation texture or a low saturation texture for you to apply your hues to, in addition to the normal textures. Combine that with a true color slider for our hues instead of just little boxes and I'm sure people will be happy for a while longer.

    Stopped reading right there.

If it was "simple", it would've been done already. Coding, especially for a piece of software so incredibly complex as CO's modeling/graphics engine, is anything but simple.

Unless you, personally, have worked on the game software, you have NO point-of-view on how "simple" any part of it is whatsoever, and assuming you do know how "simple" an action is invalidates everything you say afterwards.

While I haven't worked with the Cryptic engine I have worked with various other 3D game engines and while what I wrote may not be fast or easy, compared to other options it is relatively simple as it has been done with the previous incarnation of the same engine. Other than the color slider, that is just a wish list item. Its "simple" because instead of developing a new way to handle power colors (coding) its just adding new art assets to handle light and dark versions of the powers (drawing) and plugging them into new UI elements (minor coding). Its an inelegant way of solving the problem sure, but it has worked before with City of Heroes and the current Cryptic engine is just an improved version of the CoH engine.

Are we gonna have to bust into STO and drag Tumerboy back here to post the hedgehog picture again?

(Actually... never mind the hedghog picture, let's just bust into STO and drag Tumerboy back here  )

To be honest i never understood why they couldn't just add a color override option under the color palette. i can understand that there is a certain system in place but at the same time. hitting the end of the map makes everything black and white, so why not cheat and just add a workaround like that?

The only aura I've encountered so far that I dislike is the Defiance aura - bright pulsing yellow is downrght annoying on, well, most character concepts.
