Unique Idea: Kids!

Ok, I KNOW I've Merely returned here to CO for the Cape Glide TP, even though its worth almost nothing, but I have seen some updates on both actual gameplay and RP side of this game.
I have played many games, and the Idea I am about to introduce has NOT been implemented in any MMO I know of.

It's crazy, but before you start Throwing bunch of tomatoes at me, and I start epically dodging them all, hear me out, fans of Superhero games! It actually occured to me after I watched Next avengers cartoon (Lame, I know, but it gave me ideas) that Super Heroes and Super Heroines tend to fall in love with each other more rather than simple humans.

I offer you the opportunity to marry others in- game WOW WOW, I KNOW it is already in some MMOs , but let me finish.

Imagine: You see a superhuman/ creature/ whatever player in the game, and you decide to engage your life with him/her. But after you actually engage, in the time being (decided by game- ill explain How later) you or your partner becomes pregnant (or, if you are robotic Super, buys new constructor suit) and you have a baby. As soon as that happens, both of you get notified by mail.

Now, you are probably asking, what am I suggesting, spamming the world with more NPCs, like with Nemesis- creator type, but for the Kids superhero? NO.

Here's suggested system:
Each time a NEW character is created by a player (Be it Silver or Gold), the power types he/she chose are compared to the combinations of two MARRIED characters (in the future Ill call them couples). The closest match of Powers for the couple And new character means that that couple is going to have that new player as a Child.
So, as you appear in the Millenium City, instead of being welcomed by, say Defender ONLY, you will also receive some intro from real- life players (Your mom and dad/ your father robot and mommy robot/ you choose what else).
Now, This system would obviously impact a LOT of RPers and actual non-RP gameplay as well.
How? Well, here's my full list:

Gameplay Changes
  • You can marry once you and your potential partner are level XX
  • You Can only marry once one of you has purchased the Wedding Ring set (Sold in packs of 2 rings- C-store? For In-game Currency? Up to cryptics)
  • You both get ability to teleport to your other half once an hour.
  • Once your new- born "Baby" is in-game, you do NOT have to be there to welcome him, but your character costumes will be used in the cutscene of You welcoming your son/daughter into MC
  • Your Offspring MUST have some common power type on him, in order to be "randomly" appointed to you- like in RL, you never know how your Child will look like, and what (s)he'll be capable of, right?
  • However, you know Your child WILL have some of your genetics- so SOME power sets must be the same for Both couple's AND child.
  • If you complete a Mission in a group with your child, you will get a Bonus (EXP, Questionite, Resources, etc.) and/ or a perk.
  • You can also teleport to your child in case he enters some specific command in the chat.
  • After you are married with someone, you get an aura "Honey moon", Which essentially allows you to have more protection from outside world (Less damage) and get more experience in Life (XP Bonus). Possibly, you will not be allowed to have new players as your kids while "Honey Moon" is still active (Optional)
  • Those who registered in the game since Beta, are privelliged to be offsprings of such legendary Heroes as Defender, Kinetic, Witchcraft, etc. even though its Exceptional, since those are NPCs, NOT real Players. (Optional)
Roleplaying Changes
Pfft....... You Tell me! ^_^ Im not really a RPer, I know it Will give options to have more social life in the MMO, and (God forbid!) Meet a real love in RL via Champions Online!
.............
To sum it up:

I am Offering to introduce the Marriage and kids- system into a game, which will have impact on both the gameplay AND roleplay sides of the CO. All details- Above.

I think I've written enough. All haters- feel free to pass by, all those who have sensible Suggestions about this IDEA, please- I would LOVE to hear your constructive criticism.

    Not signed.

What exactly would the average player gain from a forced RP realationship with two other players he probably never met before? And a family certainly doesn't work that way!

There is another new feature in planing that could be used to create a child for your character: Custom sidekicks. Okay, those are NPCs and they can be about everything, not just kids, but at least it's not going to be forced upon players who don't want to have anything to do with it.

    No. Just... no.
Well.... Useless Comment, since not Explained. So, Just no.
rokurocaris, I realise the danger of Enforced kids, so There should be an Option (for Both couple AND new player) to have family ticked somewhere when you create the character AND when you get into relationship in the Game.
So far it has been just roleplaying, I've seen people wishing to marry each other, but game does not allow it, so they are forced to just RP it, and even create new characters, supposedely their "Kids" in- game.

If and ONLY if players have choice of having/ not having family- parental ties in the game, will this idea work. I didnt mention it in the suggested bullet- point list , because I thought it was obvious that with that innovation some people will not want to have children, and it should be Choosable by each player.

Updated: Bjoernr, whats fable? I thought its a SP game, Not mmo?? correct me if Im wrong, and also, how did that kill Franchise, u tell me? Just interested there, cause i Only tried Fable 3 , u see.
So, any other suggestions about this idea?

Tell me... why exactly makes this the sort of game that you think would "fit" having marriage/children added to it?

It just doesn't seem suitable for the game's playstyle. It'd be like asking for Valve to add pets to Team Fortress 2 - it just doesn't fit the genre.

Nothing wrong with doing it that way, so what benefit, if any, would your idea serve?

So who get's what when/if divorce happens?

    All the hideouts?
    All the Hero vehicles?
Who gets to keep what nemesis?
What if you have Swinging as your TP?

What if the kid/s are just plain human? Or turn up as aliens? Which of the parent is imposter?

Oh, and who gets the kids?

Which of the Legendary Heroes kids will fill the MC? DMan/Witchy, Ironclad/Sapphire, Foxbat/Witchcraft, Doc Silverback/Juryrig (come on, obviously couple), Kinetik/AllTheLadiesWoopWoop, Dr. Destroyer/Arcana (will Destroyer use this feature to make an army to conquer our world)???

I'm literally sitting here gawking at this thread.

    Really?!

I would vote a tremendous and resounding "no" to this.

Not only would it offend (and genuinely creep out) the normal player, but it becomes a headache for coding and I won't even go into why.

Keep RP in the club AND in private messages. That's my vote.

Whaaaatttt?? Yeah, like there are gay people playing this game where most of the men are in tights and when you use a travel power their butt is the only thing that fills the screen (thank god for capes, that's all I can say).

    That's just CRAZY! (sarcasm)

See, my whole issue with this is -

If I have a world were busty, hourglassy, spandex and highheel wearing superpowered vixens can get their swerve on with each other.....

Well, why would I bother with the straight at all?

    And to be fair,

If I have a world where strong, powerful, glistening, adonis-like superpowered hunks can get their swerve on with each other....

Now, if we take the idea, throw out the kids and replace it with a larger penthouse jacuzzi, port over some strobes from Caprice, increase the number from 5 to 50 and just go buck wild....

Then I could totally get behind this idea.

Also? On top of, below and in front of this idea as well.

No for the simple answer because I want my characters to be well mine. I don't want to be forcibly linked to any other characters. I will just use a few of my toons for example :

1/ Lifeform- a alien nanobot construct with a hive intelligence. He isn't a child he is a bunch of nanobots grouped together into a human shape.

2/Wolfie- a wolf bitten by a werewolf that became a werehuman. His parents are wolves not heroes.

3/Dr Blackthorn- A mage from the sixties that vanished from this dimension on magical adventures to return unaged I think his parents are dead.

4/Seamus Muldoon- A character from a certain sugary childrens cereal brought to life by a stray summoning spell as a real life Leprechaun. So his Mum and Dad would be a mage and a cardboard box.

5/Kraken- an ancient assassin created by Atlantean mages in ancient Greece recently released by an archeologist from his eternal prison cell now trying to make up for his past deeds.

That is just five of my toons and none of them fit some ill devised forced parent child fiasco. I think this idea has little or no merit if I want to have a toon have a family I can I just write it in my backstory I don't need a system in the game.

The second reason I will say no is I would rather have the devs work on new power sets or adventure packs, comic series or new zones. Even vehicles I have no interest in are a better ideas for devs energy.

definitely no,this kind of thing sort of forces RP,and ERP more specifically, and also, not every player here is human,or even has parents, take robots, animals, mystical heroes, etc. a good lot of them wouldn't have parents, even in my humans characters I never really specified that they had parents,it just seems like a bit of a boring thing, not to mention the ERP that would come with that, last time I checked,ERP was frowned upon.

this kind of reminds me of a cross between SWTOR's Legacy system and Dream of Mirror Online's relationship system, of which one was terrible and the other was just sort of creepy.

It's an interesting idea, but i really can't agree or sign on something that is aLOT of coding for something that only affect's RPers really, and seems like mostly in a way most of them wouldn't like.

Here I was expecting this to be a suggestion for kid-styled costume parts/faces/hairs/whatever. Well, now that I'm here, I can safely say that I don't want my next character to procedurally become the son of a robot and a dragon, just because they both use fire powers and happened to be married for some reason. I have no interest in getting involved in the personal online and potentially intimate relationship of two other players in an MMO, thank you very much.

Oh, right. Also, how the hell will retconning work with this system? I still might be the son of these robot/dragon things, but how does that explain that I changed my build to be something like a chihuahua mystic, for example? In addition, how does the system plan exactly what kind of character the new player will be from an energy builder and a blast/combo?

So aside from the whole creepiness of thinking about what kind of hideous children my half-irradiated 16 year old girl might have (which is both illegal and not even physically possible), no, the system isn't even feasible as a gameplay mechanic.

I believe that this whole mess may stem from a basic misunderstanding of what RP is, and a conflation of RP with ERP. (To be fair, much of the RP I've witnessed in-game is ERP, but by no means all.)

"Roleplaying", for the miseducated (like ol' sithkiller there), is when you flesh out your character, deciding what he/she/it is like as a person (or whatever he/she/it happens to be). This will inform how you play through the game with that character, and, if you choose to respond to someone in-character, how you do it. For instance, Vizzone roleplays Lee Tosi in chat (wonderfully, IMO). He also uses that character to justify why Lee does what he does - he's taking down all those who might pose a threat to Teleios' plans, if/when he returns. (Lee refuses to believe that Teleios might actually be dead.)

As another example, I decided that Backfire used to be a low-grade VIPER flunky, but got his powers when his superiors volunteered him for an experimental procedure. He now hates VIPER and everything they stand for. The way this comes through in play is that Backfire goes out of his way to attack any VIPER troops he sees, even if it has nothing to do with his current mission and might actually endanger him. (In 3rd edition PnP terms, he has Psych Limitation - Hatred of VIPER, attacks on 11 or less.)

Happifun Security System X-4 is a robot, originally designed for commercial security (malls and such). It tends to refer to organics as "citizen" a lot, and impartially analyze situations in chat. I find it kind of stifles my natural smart-**** tendencies when I'm playing Happifun.

This is "roleplaying" - assuming a character role, then playing it. This may or may not involve any romantic liasons - the Dork Knight, for instance, is extremely unlikely to be out picking up girls while dressed as a Batman clown...
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"

    LOL!

Actually there's a game that does this: http://secondlife.com/

You can also have sex in that game.

And you can have Ralph troll you while you have sex in that game:
Ralph Pootawn (or simply Ralph) is a Second Life troll who likes to show up uninvited and watch when people are trying to have virtual sex. If this bit of creepiness wasn?t enough, Ralph?s avatar is in the form of a little green demon with a beer and a pipe. Needless to say, Ralph?s presence usually ends up derailing the sex, much to his enjoyment.

I can't make this stuff up lol! This is a very strange world we live in.

I wouldn't subject someone to me IRL.
Why would I subject someone to an expy of me in a game?

Sorry, but the entire notion of "married avatars" in-game is kinda creepy already.
Actually enshrining it with game mechanics for it?

Not to mention that as a superhero, having kids means pretty much painting a big target on them that says "Please kidnap me."

This just isn't that kind of game...

    LOL!

Actually there's a game that does this: http://secondlife.com/

You can also have sex in that game.

And you can have Ralph troll you while you have sex in that game:

I can't make this stuff up lol! This is a very strange world we live in.

SECOND- LIFE- IS - NOT- A - GAME!
Now, back to topic, if you dont want Ralph to come for you

As if people PMing me and my chars that we need to go out on a date isnt bad enough already?

I have been PMed before by someone telling me that I was his Wife...

The amount of times this has come up in RP and love RP...it's just a massive NO, from me and I do love Roleplaying, but having Kids..would be a massive drag, there are just too many things to consider, what if your facing Gravitar and it's 3:30pm so you have to go pick up your kids from work? lol no way! No thank you.

As much as I respect those who do "Love RP" and marriage, it isnt for everyone. Certainly not for me, as I have stressed before.

If people are -that- desperate for kids, ask another player to create a kid with no powers to follow you around...I've seen it before.

When I saw this topic, I thought it would be about a kid model like there's a man model and a woman model when you create your character. Son, I am disappoint.
