I was getting that problem last night/early this morning. It had been kicking me and then one of the kicks I couldn't get back on. Everything else worked just fine (except STO as well) and it was happening to both my fiance and myself, so not just my computer.
I tried turning off my anti-virus and firewall, tried launching in safe mode, ping tests and tracert 's where bringing back mostly timeouts. I even noticed that trying to go to champions-online.com (which normally redirects to the new co.perfectworld.com/) wasn't redirecting either.
I went to bed, figuring I'd tackle the problem today and it's working now. I don't know if this is an on and off issue for anyone else. I just wanted to add that I've been having the issue as well, this is not the first time it's happened to me but the last time was pre-alert.
Apparently this is happening when the launcher is being updated, but for some reason it can not or is to slow. This could possibly be fixed by replacing champions-online.exe from a working installation.
Forced to hook my question in this thread since my account on the Forums has been... reinitialised? Cannot create any new thread for 48 hours although I was present around here before. Also, I laughed hard at the message "You last visited : 12-31-1969 at 4:00 PM" because of how ridiculous it was, even took a screenshot just in case.
Anyway, that's not why I come for : we're the 12th October 2012, it's 6:53 PM here in France, I've patched Champions Online right after the maintenance and I always get this message when starting, for both the Live and Public Test Shard : "Error 4 : Attempted view is invalid. Restart in..."
No matter how hard I try with the game to get it to work, I launch the client, I try to force a verification, I even uninstalled it entirely and purged the rooster... the game immediately crashes when the loading screen with the Cryptic logo appears. And honestly, I'm getting tired of this... lack of efficiency or even laziness, what's the purpose of the PTS if it's to actually get more troubles with every update performed?
For the record, I'm not the only one suffering of this trouble : @Fluffymonster, @Ouroboros1988, @GriphTricorp, @Deadkittie... People who came to me and asked if I knew what was happening because they play as often as I do myself, but I had no clue. Will we get another "Emergency maintenance" soon, or a new patch tomorrow to correct this, please? I didn't purchase the lifetime subscription to "enjoy" that kind of trouble, just saying.
when I opened the error text document in champions online directory then in that document

what can I do?
http://www.2shared.com/file/h9EC-qsp/Champions_Online.html
when you downloaded champions online.exe from that link
go to champions online directory and delete:champions online.exe,error.txt
and then copy the downloaded exe to the champions online directory then run the downloaded exe then login
Thanks for this, it works for me! ^^
I use cracks most commonly.
