Legacy System and Crossover Missions

I'm usually not a big supporter of suggestions for "groundbreaking" new features. Things like the vehicle system, I mean. But this is one I couldn't resist posting.

This idea is inspired by SWTOR's legacy system. But instead of unlocking gear/costume pieces specific to other classes (which we don't have in CO anyway), it would serve to connect the character's stories and bring them together in the game.

The idea is that a player can set realationships between his characters; making them friends, former friends, rivals and so on. And it's not just about the player's alt chars. He should also be able to set realationships between them and his Nemeses.

Practically, I see the Legacy as an extension of the Nemesis system. A set of new Crossover missions would have Legacy characters playing roles in it. Meaning you would meet your alt characters as NPC's in them!

The realationship your character has with the "guest stars" determines the dialog they have with your character, like the personality does for a Nemesis, but also the role they play in the mission. For example, an alt character that is friends with the player's active character would likely team up with you or have to be rescued from villains, while a rival might just fight you over who gets to take on the Nemesis.
The realationship your Nemeses have to your Legacy characters determines how likely it is that this char appears in a mission with that nemesis. Also, Nemeses could have realationships with eachother, determining how they interact in a "villain teamup crossover" mission. They might work together in a temporary alliance, or in permanent one. One could be the other's loyal servant, or secretly plan to betray him. Or they could fight eachother outright!

To even things out, the number of Legacy slots for alt characters would be equal to the number of Nemeses a character has. The Legacy system itself should be unlocked after completing the fist Nemesis arc. So when a character gets his second Nemesis, he also unlocks the Legacy system, starting with 2 slots on each side.

Also, in case one gets a crossover mission, but has not set realationships that would make any alt chars or alt Nemeses appear, one of the heroes/villains you meet in existing Nemesis missions would play that role, with dialog preset by the mission.

This is by far one of the best ideas for CO I have ever heard,I'd love to see my alts fighting with my character, and also have nemesis team-ups between them, maybe even a league or group formed of nemesis's

This is a rather interesting idea, and would really make alts more in-line with other characters, so then you feel like you aren't trying to just pick 'one' to play with. You just pick the one to lead.

    I love it. R+/Thumsbup/Signed/Whateverisneeded.

So basically like the nemesis system but with sidekicks drawn from your alternate character bank and settings you choose? Sounds right up my alley actually.

If I could Alyssa would definitely pick the other heroes in her party (most of my other characters), and her foes like Kali and Azazel would be very powerful to match a 5-on-1

Heck if I had to choose one I'd take Ynnea a long just because she's an awesome dedicated healer.

My main concern is whether the AI could be made smart enough to run your alts. It's a concern that I've expressed when people have asked for Freeform Nemeses; but it definitely applies here, too. It would be less of a problem if the alts in question were based on ATs; but I know of quite a few Gold players who (justifiably) won't touch an AT with a ten-foot pole.

This is a pretty awesome idea. I'd love to see this work. It certainly makes an altaholic smile.

Well, if that doesn't work, you could just select a power set and matching AI for them. The NPC you meet would have your alts name and costume, but otherwise work like a nemesis with that power set would.

This is a fantastic idea! To keep things simple, I think it should be broken down into fairly vague categories:

    1. Mentor/Teacher/Parent - this would be a typical "you are the student/child/protege of" scenario. The character you are linked to helped you develop into the hero you are today.

    2. Friend/Teammate/Colleague - you and the character you are linked to worked together at some point - perhaps you were fellow students or fought on the same side during some event (war, pinnacle event in your careers, etc).

    3. Romantic interest/involvement - now this one would require careful implementation. This is the 21st century, and I think that all lifestyles should be accepted here. The key would be to keep the conversation of the relationship to a 'T' rating - the dialogue should be non-sexual and vague enough to permit different and same-sex relationships.

I would love this as long as 2 of my heroes could hate each other, because they do. They've known each other for several millenia and accross multiple dimensions and actively despise working with each other, but find themselves having to relatively often because they're both good guys.

In principle, at least, I think this is a cool idea.

I've thought for a while that it would be cool in Bunker Buster if the hero on the table in the lab (the one who only moans and says "Go on without me") could be one of your other characters. That, at least, would be a fun start.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
First off, a load of people will make citizen alts to end up being captured by villains with a bit of a mental attachment too. That's rad.
But also, it means you have a connection to any alts that are brought in and are fighting: because you made them.
Amusingly, this could also mean that one could ignore the 'you are the hero' rule of Champions that means NPC allies are generally weaker than the PC. Here, because it's the PC characters controlled by NPC AI, it could possibly be actually stronger than the player character since it derives its powers from its powerset as you've played it up to.

Assigning roles for various alts would be awesome too, like mentor etc as bio mentioned.

I'm actually not sure if this would be possible. It was brought up on the previous page, and I agree. I seriously doubt the AI could control a player-created build properly. :frown:

So, I think it would come down to us having to select a power set for the guest heroes, and them behaving like nemeses with the respective set would. Except that they would be on the player's side, of course... unless it's a "mind-controled friend" scenario.
