I was thinking about expanding my horizons and leaving the city for the first time and was wondering if Canada and the Desert Crisis Zones were working and 100% completable solo?

I did the Desert the other day so I know that one works. I don't think there's been any issue with either of those Crisis zones, or Lemuria for that matter.
The issue was the VB crisis zone. Monster Island works, but IIRC you need a team for part of that.
Desert and Canada can be soloed pretty easily (but unless you're an uberbuild or know some good tricks, I wouldn't take on the Desert Crisis mission "Built Ferd Tough" solo...).
You can solo MI Crisis, but expect to respawn a few times, especially in the big fight at the end.
I managed to get to Lemuria without doing its Crisis - I think that might be one that's currently shut down.
I've got a toon currently working on the Vibora Bay Apocalypse solo - managed to drop Valerian Scarlet without much issue (seriously, the Corrupted Amphibian was much harder for me), and now I'm just trying to keep a Tempest AT alive in Therakiel's chamber long enough to siphon the energy Juryrig needs to run the time machine so I can stop myself from messing everything up in the first place...
(Personally, I blame Caliburn. If he hadn't been such a closemouthed jerk when I first encountered him, this whole chain of events could have been avoided.)

Did MI Crisis yesterday. Solo, as there was no one else around. It worked. Big monkey won.
Tip: big robot godzila and big monkey always win (bug is, when they don't or port away or are not there or if one of of hostiles regenerates). You just have to be there. Poke something, so they know you are there, then block and watch the show. If you can heal others (big friendly NPC), do it. It will speed up the process.
I've had to solo Ripper before due to Terak getting bored or bugging out. But MI crisis is totally soloable. Just gotta be quick on the block button on the big dinosaur and have a self heal or be able to escape combat to heal.
I had Terak drop out on Ripper once, but I wasn't quite solo - I had Ironclad and several Manimals with me...
BTW, in re: the final part of VB Crisis - my tactic worked. Hover in range of Therakiel; deploy Steelhead Soldier whenever possible; siphon energy; die, respawn, go back to it because you don't lose any of the energy you've collected. Got me past the Apocalypse!

I just got past Therakiel again today. You're over thinking him completely. Get up unto the top part of one of the pillars to the rear left or right of the big fallen angel, get on a ledge that's facing the back wall. Then drain away without fear of getting attacked. I've done this four times now and it's very painless. If you don't have flight talk to juryrig right after he gives you this quest and there should be an option where he gives you a jet pack.
Lemuria and Monster Island were both giving me problems last time I played them. Lemuria wasn't starting the repair mission and so the crisis just stalled, and during Monster Island the giant ape kept launching Teliosaurus (sp?) across the map and he got back he was fully healed. So another stall. My toon wasn't powerful enough to take the giant mutant dinosaur out so I was forced to give up within sight of the finish line. I was pissed.

I've done this myself a good 14 or so times. Get to the top ledge of a pillar and then drain energy no problem. I think on average I get interrupted maybe once, but I've had plenty of times that I get to 100% in one shot (takes a while of course).
