From the massively article: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/09/21/star-trek-online-producer-says-game-is-kicking-butt/
Star Trek Online Producer Daniel Stahl isn't beating around the bush about the state of the game. According to him, STO has both purpose and a leg-up on much of the industry.

"When you consider what it takes to run an MMO in today's highly competitive marketplace," Stahl writes, "STO has been kicking some butt. Despite what some may think, we have a deliberate path and long-term goals that we've been tracking quite well against. STO has not only survived, but is thriving at a time when many MMOs have kicked or are about to kick the bucket."

Stahl goes on to rally the troops by citing how much the team has accomplished this year and what its focus is on for November's Season 7 update and beyond. The team's biggest priorities are in enriching the foundry, overhauling PvP, buffing up Klingon content, and a possible Romulan faction.

He also mentioned that Cryptic has hired "great talent" from 38 Studios and Paragon Studios to join the team.

Romulan faction??? Are you freakin kidding me? They need to manage two factions before trying three.

Man, STO makes me so sad and angry.

Do you have knowledge of the insider workings at Cryptic or something because I see no evidence that CO didn't get any of the devs hired from Paragon Studios and 38 Studios.

Just because we haven't seen any of the more vocal devs from Paragon Studios or 38 Studios doesn't mean that they haven't had some of the people who worked without communicating on the forums.

One of the devs said this morning that to his knowledge, the Champs team hasn't added anyone yet, but they are looking to fill some positions.

meaning i very much doubt were going to get any of the devs they are probably going to go to NWN and STO instead as usual....

this is what is making me sad, champions needs so much love from the company. while its great to see sto thriving and living. the same thing cannot be said for champions. think about the only things that were added to this game. alerts and open world events.

yes it is, and if this keeps up, were not going to have a game anymore. unless the they start putting develops programmers and artists in here, this game is going the way of the dinosaur, just like COH. i estimate that no more then 5000 to 6000 people are playing this game at most.

as i said before, unless this game gets really MAJOR support and soon. I suspect it to last 2 more years at most.

because our "saviors" PWE sure don't seen to be very interested in this game when they bought out cryptic and it shows

This is all well and good, but at the same time SW:TOR is going to a F2P model and are promising regular major releases every 6 weeks ........... STO can't get stuff out every 6 months .....

But regardless I still love STO, but after almost 3 years of playing daily I'm finally bored. I haven't played STO in over 3 weeks.....

I'm playing Champions more and I'm also playing SW:TOR...

STO needs more and less buggy content, period!

    Thanks!

From what I heard there are spots being filled for Champions, people are reading too far into an article and many here have the false view that just because more developers are hired that we will expect instant turn around in development. They would still have to train the developers with the tools and engine, and at the earliest before we see any major results would be next year, probably around Spring time.

TOR may promise frequent content, but at this point I think there is no reason to ever believe that kind of promise from mmo devs.

i dont think anyone here wants the devs to just wave a wand and poof new content. i think what we want is to hear the devs and home office to think of us a a major game like sto and neverwinter. not just a 2nd rate game. that we can keep pushing the same missions on people year after year. ofcourse thats just my .02 cents.

When Cryptic's other games get new hires it's with no small amount of fanfair. Again, we are left in the cold getting bupkiss. If in a couple weeks the new hires are welcomed here and not on the other forums I'll print this post and eat it. With relish.

Agreed with teh above. The TOR lot cant even handle up/down toggle on hoods theve been promising that for over a year :/

To be honest I am glad some of the Paragon guys have found new employment thats what really matters.

Word to the wise: Developers and suits alike will always embellish if not flat out lie about how well their game is doing.

I'm reminded of SMNC, another game I was playing. "Contrary to popular belief, the playerbase is growing" they told us. Now, you're lucky to see 400 people online at the same time.

With all that said, given what STO is getting, I'd say they're still doing better than us in some way.

...I just recently realized something really disturbing. We're all eating Sodapop3's "humble pie."

38 Studios and some Paragon devs? Yay!

I loved playing KoA:R almost as much as playing Skyrim. :D Hopefully some of that 38 Studios people are animators (nothing against CO's animator(s), but KoA:R's animations were great).

To be fair though - With regard to SWToR; EA/BioWare hasn't really kept up with any of their announced post launch content timeline announcements beyond the first content patch (which was ready at SWToR launch, but held back); which is one of the many reasons SWToR has been bleeding subs massively from day one (and I too was playing SWToR until the end of April.)

Im glad the Paragon guys got new jobs.

On the other hand, if none of the paragon guys are assigned to CO it would send an unflattering message about the state of CO and Cryptic/PWEs view of it.

    /sigh.
people are reading too far into an article and many here have the false view that just because more developers are hired that we will expect instant turn around in development.
I didnt see any one expecting any instant new content.
The impression im getting is that people would be disappointed if the paragon studios devs didn't get assigned to CO at all.

    2. Please give us an exchange rate between Acclaim and Recognition so that PVP has access to all "On Alert" PVE rewards.
