Came up with a character idea for a first real character here based on Bestial (which looks fun), but having trouble getting it to work out in costume creation; it looked like it would work, then it just isn't. Basic concept is a teenage girl who has picked up a bit of a lycanthropic type of condition, but more of the small cute rodent variety.
issues:
The "rat" face is horrible. Cartoonish and angry and honestly not even a very good shape for it. I might reserve it for an alternate costume if I have to, but it just looks bad. I'd considered using humanoid with 'high cheeks' and black eyes that look more rodent-like, but i'm not sure if there are any better details or approaches for this.
Having trouble finding how to make the chest look like there is fur involved on a character that would prefer to have some clothes on (if only they didn't shrink a bit to power up). Everything looks more geared to make bodypainted nudists; the pieces like the fur werewolf legs and such don't look like they can cover everything, unless i'm missing something. I have a suspicion that I might just be missing a piece or two.
Yes, I know about the C-store shrinker. yes, I plan to use it to some degree.
I'm actually more inclined toward the human-ish side than the walking animal side offhand, just that sliders are hard to figure out. (On the bright side, since i'm going for 'uncanny valley' already, I have a bit more leeway, the problem is being in the right part of said valley.)
Does anyone have any suggestions on this issue, or should I just go back to the drawing board?
Nocens was awesome. It was amazing what she could do with just the face make up options.
I'm sure with the right face paint, nose and some whiskers options, you could get really close. I expect the only major hurdle would be the ears. I have no ideas how to come close to those.

This sig is more useless than my last one.
although her thread is a couple years old, i'd highly recommend perusing it:
