So I've recently re-subbed to Champions and I'm noticing that especially in the evenings (peak traffic?) I get this error constantly to the point where it makes the game unplayable. Maybe I'll be able to sneak in an Alert once in a while, but usually not.
Are there any fixes or workarounds for this? My internet connection is fine, as far as I can tell.
EDIT:
At the moment, I can't even get past character selection. It hangs up at "Retrieving List of Maps..." until it just boots me back to login completely.
I'm having the exact same issues..Its so bad I cant even log on for 10 minutes without having my toon skip around all over the place ending with a server not responding. Hoping its not just me and you.
Hopefully the patch to fix the patch that fixed the patch that fixed the patch will resolve some of the problems; I tried proxies, skipping around zones, avoiding instances, and nothing worked.
I recently started playing the game, and this issue is making CO unplayable for me. I *just* subbed to the game and then suddenly this "server not responding" issue pops up. Figures.
And no, it isn't my connection. After polling io.com and others for an hour with ZERO packet loss and consistently low latency, I can say with confidence that the problem is NOT on my end.
Is this because of the big patch that just went live, or is the game always like this? Ugh.
Just tried playing again. Did one alert, then the Server Not Responding fun began in earnest. Is there any chance of getting an official response to this?
EDIT: PS, I can't get the PWE support page to work (can't select Champions Online from the dropdown menu).
Either that, or when they do get it fixed I better get a 3 day long double xp buff on all my characters for them making me miss out on the anniversary.
Yeah, I've pinged a few major sites (champions' website being one of em) and gotten no latency issues whatsoever. It's certainly not my internet, something got broken.
I'd just like to point out: Between this and silvers not being able to create new characters during the event, this anniversary hasn't been too friendly to the player base.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.

Very true, Anniversary is the worst time to have massive server problems. Not to mention the possible influx of new players from COH. Come one guys don't shoot yourselves in the foot when you should be showcasing the game.
It happened during the steam influx, too. Only that time it was chat server going down for a week along with the connection issues.
Thankfully, I feel like the CoX players will be more patient than random people from steam. I really hope this gets fixed soon, though. It's making the game almost unplayable for me, and a few other people I've talked to. Stuff happens, sure, but as I pointed out previously: I pay for this time. Right now I'm paying for the privilege of playing for maybe 15 minutes and then lagging out for an hour. As patient as I am, I'm sure lots of other people aren't.
Wasn't all of this on the schedule to be fixed 3 weeks in a row? lol it seems like it's just shuffling around who's effected by it. O_o

A to-do list for developers is usually only made to put peoples mind at ease, in reality they rarely fix technical problems until it starts costing them money.
So until then, don't plan on them even giving a crap about it.
This is really annoying. Recently returned from a bit away and in a couple hours (maybe) of playing I've had 6 or so. Especially annoying in alerts.
Want some advice?
Run...
Ask for a refund and get the hell off the sinking ship. They are literally killing off a ton of money with all of the new CoX arrivals that are leaving because of this problem.
I saw 5 or 6 people in a 20 minute span say to hell with the game and left. All of them were fresh recruits from CoX.
Devs are dumb if they are going to let all this money slip away.
I was planning on doing a lifetime sub after my 3 months ended.
This EXACT issue was happening to me when I returned after the On Alert update, I was convinced it was their end since everything, and I mean EVERYTHING worked fine my end until I gave in and unplugged my router and modem for about 10 minutes, plugged back in, everything worked perfectly.
Champ's seems to be the pickiest game out there when it comes to your internet connection.
Not saying that our problem is definitely the same, but this is more than worth trying since it worked so perfectly my end, who knows, maybe it'll work for you to?
Now I'm leaving before angry people yell back without even trying it.
Made a support ticket but I got the usual "It's your network or your fault" runaround.
Don't bother making tickets guys, not a way of fixing the problem involved them having to do anything on their end.
Typical bad support.
Actually do send tickets a couple of people sending in tickets about disconnects is going to look like a problem on the users side loads of people sending in tickets is going to suggest a problem else where.
Oh.This Happen to me as well.
I was In Canadian Wilderness Powerhouse..and I was try rebuild my Character.
along with the super Lag Server T_T''.
AND I know it wasn't from my side of connection.Because I test it on WOW
GUILDWARS2 and everything is just work fine for me.No latency issue
on those game AT ALL.
So please fix it.
note : This happen after the Anniversary patch come out.

Nah, pretty sure most ticket responses are automated, I know for a fact the one I got was copypasta.
It was better this evening until about a few hours ago and it started going full ****** again.
Not to mention, I have been running a background ping on my other computer, every time CO server lags I see no change in latency on my network, so it's not my end as they will assume.
I just think devs are afraid to respond to this sort of thing, because once they do they will have to admit they are at fault and god knows developers never like to be human.

So many people are complaining about server performance ingame. Seriously, I don't care if the devs publicly acknowledge that their netcode/servers/hamsters suck...I just want them to fix the problem.
I just started playing, and was planning on sticking around, but I'm cancelling my sub and going back to Silver. I'll gladly resub if/when Cryptic gets their act together, but I'm not going to pay another month for this level of completely lousy service.

Well then dont sound like I'm the only one that just now started, today, Monday Sept 10 2012 not sure about Sunday, didnt play too much but did have it flash for the few minutes I was on there with the constant Server Not Responding thing.
And I know good and well it's not on my end, because one, first called IP provider to see if they was getting blips on their end. Nope. Then had them come out, emergency style and me paying, to check stuff on my end, no issues there. The drivers are all up to date and cant be blamed on an old machine as it's not even a year old, so that is not it. From the looks of it, it's not just me. Is it problem with communication in a region of the country or what is going on?
I'm fairly new here but not a direct transplant but I'm wondering is this normal? Is there a fix or even someone going to bother to look into it instead of playing the round table finger pointing? Or should I just pack it up and leave? No point in even investing in anything if there is no use beyond 2 secs of fighting and three minutes of hopping around the screen then crashing and spending another 5 trying to get back on.
I'm going to give the ticket thing a try even though if this support is like 90% of tech support, I might get an automated email in a couple of days, and if get through to a flesh person, then it the problem will be blamed on everything under the sun except the actual problem "Oh your car is parked too close to the wires." "Uhm my car is in the shop." "Oh your car is parked too far away from the wires." and etc. But cant say I didnt try it.
And yea I tried all those tricks that have been listed proxy un proxy, reset modem, I have cable so it aint about wireless in my case, all drivers are up to date to the t, cpu have plent of power, this game doesnt even bring the usage up to above 2%, turn anti-virus fire wall, norton, etc off, no difference, so i turned them back on. Cant be blamed on added programs as there havent been anythign added since Sept 1, when I started and it worked perfect until now. Flash adobe and all them other programs that somehow may be or might be connected is up to date, turned them all off to see, no difference, turned them back on to normal. AKA in short, I went through the run of the mill stuff already including speed test, ping test packet test latency test, all checked out fine just now just as it did when the IP tech was here.
I was playing in City Center with no problems - game was running great - for quite awhile, but the MOMENT I zoned into City Hall and back out again, I got hit with constant "server not responding" until CO kicked me back to the login screen.
I've seen the same thing happen before when going from Ren Center to the Power House and back, and when zoning in and out of my Hideout. I've played enough by this point to say that there is a noticeable pattern here, having to do with server->client stability and zoning.

Agreed. Got on today after work, seems to be working fine now, it fixed for you guys?
Though it did the same thing to me last night, was working fine for an hour or so then BOOM it went to **** again.
still not working at the moment and ran through the gamut list of possibilbilties provided on this server and response thing. Not a slightest bit of difference. Still constant "server not responding". But one thing I did gather is that this not a a very rare problem. Seem pretty common. Seems that it was "fixed" at one point soon after launch, and again in August 2011, and more reports of this problem during the summer of 2012. Man, it was working fine from the time I started to the time the weekend event thing was suppose to end.
To make extra sure that it was nothing here, I tried other online games that I had collecting dust and not a bit of probems, only this one.
If there is a "special" configuration out there I'm all ears but really, I like the game, love the concept but hell, can there actually be a decent super hero MMO without being canceled (COX), lacking in customization (DConline) or buggy server (CO)? Is WoW like games really the only way an MMO can work?

Edit:
Posted a new thread with what info I've found concerning connection issues. This thread is more about conjecture than fact, so I felt a new one was warranted. Check it out. Good luck.
I've been playing this game on and off for all 3 years and this is the issue that makes me unsubscribe each time.
I changed ISPs and bought a new computer since the last time I gave up, so I was hoping it would be different. However, I am seeing the exact same issues. Anytime I zone at all, there is good chance (about 1/2) that it will break my connection with a "Server not responding" message and I have to force close the game. Afterwords, I can't even connect to the patch server to try logging in. If I let it cool down for about 30-60 minutes then try again, I will be able to log back in and repeat this process.
I've tried everything listed on these forums including some outside solutions and nothing even improved the problem.
I can get in and do open world stuff, but I can't zone anywhere. Can't go to my hideout, alerts or move to a different open world area unless I know I'm done playing.
I just wanted to poke my head in and say this is STILL going on for me, even though double XP weekend is over. It seems to be the worst during peak playtimes.
This game is a ton of fun. Please take this seriously.

Head over here and post a response, maybe if we keep jumping down their throat they will actually do something.
Posted a reply over there with a request for some more information. I haven't unsubscribed yet, but the next week or so will make or break my relationship with PWE, which is brand new, as it is for a lot of CoH veterans right now.

To think I can't play during the double XP anniversary after giving you my money, do you take me for some sort of fool.

Agreed, it only started happening after the 7th.
Notice how they still wont respond to technical support threads, it's ridiculous.
