With the reduced cost, purchasing an FF slot this weekend and making use of the double xp boost is quite an incentive for silver members or soon to be silver members.
But from what I'm finding, if you were previously a gold member at one point, you will be affected by a bug preventing you from accessing the slot - something you won't be made aware of until you finish designing your character and try to launch it in CO.
I'm posting it here not only as a warning, but hopefully also as an incentive to see a quick fix. Double xp was the deciding factor in investing in another slot - doesn't really work if you can't use the slot....

I just cleared out a ton of old alts I had been saving for a rainy day. As I've accepted I hardly use my ATs much anymore, I let them go. Looks like its doing a check against total slots, which it shouldn't since FF is separate and didn't up until recently. After reducing my roster to what would be my allowed total character roster I was finally able to create a character in the FF slot. Still a bug, but for folks experiencing this not wanting to let that double xp go to waste, if you can spare eliminating some alts, you'll probably want to do so. In my case, most of my 40s cover themselves since all my AT 40s unlocked their own slot while gold, and the FF slots cover their own use, I just needed to limit myself to 5 non 40 slots (3 starting silver slots, 2 I had paid for/traded for when we had the service bags).
Still hate to see some of those alts go - they were nice placemarkers for each time I had been subbed.

Yeah I know - and unlike other MMOs I'm not expecting a timely resolution - of course I wouldn't see this happen in most of them either.
I've got at least 2 other friends in the same boat. Kinda sad to be punished for spending the equivalent of $25, especially for something that had been apparently reported before the sale.

It's always nice to see you "drop by".
While it would have been ideal for it to have been addressed when it was apparently reported last patch, it's nice to see a CM take note and actively respond. It's refreshing.

On a side note, that FF slot is now a 40 thanks to that double xp - it's too bad we've had to wait so long for witchy to be generous.
Well of course, it would HAVE to be their legs! If it was their arms, then they couldn't play and enjoy the free form they traded for. Duh. :rolleyes:
Suffice it say, it definitely appears to be affected by total slot restriction, even though FF slots are supposed to be "self-contained".
This also explains why I myself didn't experience the bug when FF slots first hit like so many others, as I believe I was still gold when I was unlocking those slots.
So I have received a response from a GM, saying it's the issue of slot limit on a silver vs gold account. I had expected that response.
But here's a bit of history I thought I should share about my experience with freeform slots:
So something server side has indeed changed during the time I was away such that the slots didn't work for me anymore.
Seriously. They are making themselves look bad with this screw-up.
