there are still a couple of side missions I found by chance - Breana Bissell's friend is behind the first building you enter to kill the qualar. After you grab the mayor's items on the right side, hop out the furthest window and she is across the street. This is the tutorial "escort" mission. Also in the courtyard on beside the ambulances where you help civilians and collect medical supplies is Reggie the cat's kitty karrier. Interacting will give you an optional mission in your inventory, right click to use and deliver reggie to Martha(?) back along the street where the police cars are circled (where you get the scanning mission).
I guess I should go look at the wiki page see what else I missed. I also remember the tutorial being much longer with the blocking excercise with the police marksmen.
I'm glad they removed the quest of "get my luggage in the middle of dead people and angry aliens please" and made Griswold a much more serious character. And kinetik less of a useless puny wuzzy.
Meeting Foxbat was a fun Beta Testers experience.. the Red Bug down and other things somebody without early in grav boots could stumble into was nice..
Having diverse Tutorials that prepare you for the CN or Desert Crisis are a good thing.
Taking away any XP gaining exploration missions that help players learn the system.. so they don't get lost and quit are positives..
Adding to this we need to re-invent 5 player Lair missions
the Monster Island and LEmuria Crisis need the Burst Que Alerts treatment..
Serpents Lantern? not meant fro solo play either.. Resistance is brutal with 3 whiteout not much fun alone..

Not even worse the word Tutorial, cause you learn nothing about the game.
Not even blocking or slotting your powers.
And without all extra missions, eastereggs and missionrewards it is totally boring and a waste of time to play.

I agree strongly. Campy/cheesy humor that wasn't even funny just makes the game sound stupid to new comers. That's was my first comment about the game in fact on my first day to my friends on Ventrilo:"This looks really cheesy and stupid." and "How much long until I'm out of the horrible tutorial?"

On consideration, there have been a few changes to the Tutorial that I strongly approve of.
In the original version, Sapphire was being stretched to her limit just fighting the bugs near the Mayor. Kinetik, one of the fastest men alive, was locked down and caged by an Invasion Leader you beat without half trying. Ironclad had no way to overcome the bugs around the cannon without you. Witchcraft was nowhere to be seen. And Defender? Used to be that when Black Talon's health had been partially depleted, one of those tangle coils you kept breaking free of rendered Defender completely helpless. It was like watching a bunch of high-school kids in funny costumes, with you as the adult rushing to their rescue. One was left wondering what the big deal about the Champions was, and why you had to do what Defender said when you got to RenCen, because you could obviously stomp a mudhole in him with ease.
Now, Sapphire's by the Mayor because that's her assigned post. Ironclad doesn't so much need your help as welcome it. Witchcraft and Kinetik are defending the doors of Homestead from the waves of alien attackers (and given that what they wanted was inside that building, why didn't they make that a priority before? Instead, they sent a token force in there). And when you have to fight Black Talon alone, it's because Defender is covering your back, because BT's backup has just arrived.
You get the feeling now that while powerful, you are just a starter hero, and these guys have maybe earned their place at the top of the heap. Of course, you're going to become so powerful that they will one day stand in your shadow, but it doesn't start off that way.

Agreed with Jon, but I do wanna add that the blocking mechanic needs to be put back and re-explained. The tutorial used to put a heavy emphasis on blocking, which kinda gave you the idea that it's important. Now? There's no *tutorial* in this tutorial. It doesn't teach you anything. "run around without a travel power and kill these easy mobs. You know how to repeatedly press 2? Good, now go fight some real mobs. Oh, and have fun with that Kevin Poe guy. You'll see what we mean".
The feel of the tutorial is better, but at the detriment of actually learning anything from it.

You just need to speak to each Champion on the game at some point. Doesn't have to be in the tutorial.

I think that Sapphire is only available in the Tutorial to speak to...However I am probably wrong, I have definitely not done all of the missions in the game.
I am given to understand that Sapphire makes an appearance somewhere in Vibora Bay, but since I haven't gotten that high yet, I have no positive data. You can speak with her in the Tutorial, obviously, although if she's temporarily out of position you might have to wait until she gets back.

Now, you just have to wait until you can talk to Kinetik in MC - he's just northeast of RenCen, across the street, so there's no reason you can't take care of that the moment you leave the tutorial, I suppose (I discovered this when I was running the PSI missions, around lvl 19 or so...).

You can't get credit for Kinetik in the tutorial any more. He's busy rushing around at superspeed fighting off at least five times as many Qularr at once as anyone else. Nice change from the days when just one of them was able to put him in a cage...

Yea, i repeat the sentiment of a lot of the posters here. The new tutorial, especially with the comic panels additions, is a welcome change and sounds more serious than it ever did in the beginning. Not to mention, the fly over with Police Chief Surhoff sounded less about you and more about someone else. The new fly over with Defender giving the rundown and SOCRATES reporting information makes it sound more about your character.

Truthfully, I believe most of the reason is less about folks not knowing how to block. (or at least id like to hope so) and more to do with the UI.
Life drains don't come with the normal attack balloon, and can easily be missed. Especially if the target is buried under everyone's powers effects. It really needs its own attack balloon.
And with DE, you get that annoying purple hold bar. The initial reaction is to break the hold not to block. There is no distinction in the UI between a root, a hold you can still block and attack with. And a hold, that prevents you from doing anything until you break out. So, its fair to assume most folks simply see the purple bar and start mashing X. Instead of going oh crud, this is one I should be blocking on.
The only real clue to the difference is knowing the sound and animation effects of DE, and that only comes with experience. Roots really need a way to distinguish them from holds in the UI, something as simple as a different colored, mash X bar, would be a huge help.
For what it's worth (which isn't much). I brought up the removal of the blocking tutorial on the PTS and how it was a really bad idea. I guess someone else thought it was a good idea.
I don't run the tutorial any more but I thought/think that not explaining a unique and key mechanism of this game is a bad idea. Even worse is when they decided to tell you about it...right before facing Black Talon.
