How To Franklin Stone

I first posted this in the "don't bother" thread, but thought that people might be looking for this sort of thing. That thread is probably not where they would be looking for it of course, so I made this one. The information isn't complete, but it's a start. I did this while using the action control scheme. Others may be different.
The jet controls change when you have a target. They change a lot. I'm not even sure how the movement works when you have a target, but I know that it automatically faces you toward the target horizontally but not vertically. In that state you only seem to be able to move forward, which might be intended to create a strafing run movement pattern if you hold down the "W" key.

When you have not target, it seems to fly similarly to the flight travel powers.

The "correct" strategy might be to move slightly above your target before confirming it, then, once it is confirmed, hold down "W" and attack as much as you can. That might keep the lasers from converging on you.

The Interceptors "3" and 4"" attacks seem to be intended for Stone's vehicle, and the "6" missile attack seems to be for the security forces. "2" is normal reload, and 5 is fast reload. I have no idea why they would be so far apart, or why "1" wouldn't function as an energy builder. I'm not sure but I think "1", "4" and "6" are power armor style toggles.

I still have yet to enjoy this mission, but I keep thinking that there is something to figure out about it that will improve the experience, at least a little.

Edit: I just tried it out, and it's much better. As long as I'm "Strafing" the lasers barely touch me. When I stand still, they converge. It's not so with the security forces, though. It's hard to target them with the missiles and keep moving at the same time. It might be best to clear them out when Stone isn't there. Got the NightHawk Diaper from the bag. x3

Try not to get dizzy while you're flying in tight circles. If you get stuck on something, cancel your target in order to get the more intuitive controls back.

After multiple failures, and fustration at the become jet, I decided to skip turning into the jet and fight the plane as my normal toon. While a lot slower, it was much easier to get the healing support group taken of and I seemed to do more damage. I would think a tactic to fight the plane would be, have some folks use the jets to get to the support staff quicker, and other not use the jets for the damage. Just remember to dodge to lasers they eat HP for breakfast.

It's easier not to use them, but I noticed that some people got good scores with them, and it made me curious. x3

Happifun had a much easier time out than in (especially taking down the Engineers), but had to endure another player who kept insisting that the robot "wasn't doing a lot of good without a jet" (tempted to tell him, "I'd be even less useful *with* one," but I was busy fighting at the time).

Tempted to try it with Skyfire - he's a Tempest, and could probably do a fair degree of damage to Stone's plane with his powers....

I typically top the leaderboard in an interceptor, or compete with fellow players who've learned to understand the fight dynamics like I have.

    1. If you use a jet - take the time to learn what each power does. Also, before picking a jet, disable any toggles as most of them interfere with your energy as a jet and prevent a full charge of the big hit.

    2. When fighting Stone, mobility and range are your advantages in a jet. If you're moving regularly the drones can't hit you for much if at all. If you're out of Stone's range, he can't hit you but if you're chargeup's ready you can still hit him hard.

    3. Engineers are priority targets. As soon as he prepares to move to a new location I get there first and blast the engineer with the full barrage aoe making quick work of him.

Setting the "Always Face Forward" feature to "ON" in your Options>Controls windows fixes the jet movement control issues.
