As we count down the days to the release of the Nighthawk event, we're already gearing up for our anniversary extravaganza. September 1 may be our actual anniversary, but you can get a head-start on the gala with two new contests - with some pretty snazzy prizes to match.
Anniversary Leveling Contest
You know Champs inside and out, hero, so now's the time to prove it. Every time you level up a character to 40, you're qualifying towards a $250 Amazon gift card
or a custom piece of Champs art.
Anniversary Screenshot Contest
Speaking of art... let's make some! How does a screenshot/fan art contest sound? We'll be taking submissions in four categories: 1) Best overall screenshot, 2) Best action shot, 3) Best hero spotlight, and 4) Best fan art. Whether you wield a pencil, pen or the might PrintScrn, this is the event for you.
Champions, new missions await you. Are you ready to face the challenge?

Brick_McDuggins in game.
Well there was the design a villain contest, but I don't think that counts. Otherwise I think they had thing where someone got an Alien Ware computer, but that was just a random drawing from everyone liking them on facebook or something.
Anyways yeah, seeing actual community contests like this is pretty nice.
only characters created during the event will count...
In addition to the grand prize, you'll also be able to pick up some guaranteed unlocks for reaching 40.
Everyone who qualifies will get a special title, "The Ascendant", plus a stack of MODs and a Catalyst pack.
This leveling contest will start later tonight, at 12:01 AM on August 29 (Pacific), and ends 9 AM on Thursday, September 6. Level a character up to Level 40 and you'll get an entry into the contest.
The info's a little spread out, but I think this covers your questions.
You're a lunatic with a mad man's dream of a milk proof robot!

Because I've got an idea that incorporates about 6 of my heroes. Also is it due the same time Sept. 6th?
edit: also, does it have to be all drawn or can we incorporate a screenshot as a background setting with a filter on it? Like I was going to have my characters drawn, but my background would be a screenshot.
In two-minute drills with Nemesis- the XP alerts- the nemesis disappears after about 30 seconds- granting victory to the team, and giving XP for nothing. Something you may want to consider since, you know, you're having a leveling contest and this is free leveling.
Yes, yes, and more yes. Actually, I guess No for the last question? Whichever. I hereby allow you to make art of any kind that you would like, including your own non-canon characters and screenshot backgrounds.
Currently there's a tentative end time of September 6... but that initial end date was set a while back, and given that some other stuff from JD took precedence, I haven't had time to push this event as hard as I'd like. Especially since this is mostly a for-fun event, I'm going to look into whether we can extend it for the duration of the anniversary extravaganza.
Cheers!
Stuffy on the old CO forums. PWE ate my username.
A bit of competition though... *stretches fingers and gets ready to fight simulated evil*
When do we start?
(I might do some stuff for the art contest too. Sometimes with vigilante toons and power armour guys I try to sketch out the schematics for their suits as they would in-character whilst in tedious lessons. Scan it into the computer, turn the powered ones into a blue background with white lines, give the vigilante ones more comic-style colouring... Bam, art.)
No notification, unfortunately. The way we run this is retrospective -- instead of actively tracking when you reach level 40, we're automatically logging when you hit 40 then doing a data pull for those logs at the end.
It's going on now!
eep. *gets started*
Please, Please, I beg of you, try to see if it's possible to extend the time? As i believe this time frame is too short and implies either the game is too eazy to level out, if there's a contest to max it in 6 days, or implies the people who do it, have no life and spend over 12 hours a day.
When a common health and safety caution is typically advised to take a break from playing games over 2 hours.
This time frame just encourages health risks like RSI and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.
If somehow it is extended, to at least another week, i would be very grateful, if i still miss the timing, i can accept that, because it would at least be more possible and fair that way.
At the moment, i just feel like an idiot having to delete 6 toons in order to make 1 to even be able to try this, mainly because it took 2 days to fix that issue >.<

I'd also like to add Nighthawks interruption to the list of reasons why failure is totally not my fault and the leveling contest should therefore be extended....
oh, there's leveling contest? easy peasy, i thought. i've run through this content so much i can do this blindfolded using no appendages.
yeah....not so much.
aside from just normal life stuff gettting in the way, i found that although i've kept up on most of the changes, once in game it took me a bit to actually get back in the swing of things.
i don't realistically expect an extension, but it'd be super if it happened.
@Zebel
60% of the time, it works every time...since August 2009.
And playing by myself since Aug 2009

Wow, congrats man, I can't believe you stuck it out. What time did you finish? I should have called out of work today lol
Given we haven't been able to create new characters during this event at all.
Wicks and Things: NW-DI4FMZRR4 : The Fenwick merchant family has lost a caravan! Can you help?
Beggar's Hollow: NW-DR6YG4J2L : Someone, or something, has stolen away many of the Fenwicks' children! Can you find out what happened to them?
Into the Fen Wood: NW-DL89DRG7B : Enter the heart of the forest. Can you discover the secret of the Fen Wood?
I basically gave up on doing this after like 3 days, because I got so sick of doing alerts and most of my usual fast leveling options were downright broken. I'm not really that bummed about it for myself, but the fact that a large portion of the population was outright blocked from participating? Seems a touch unfair.

Um...was the leveling contest thing resolved then? Because you've been awfully quiet in that thread.
