MILLENNIUM CITY - The one-time superhero known as Nighthawk has been branded a vigilante, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Chief Surhoff has committed the MCPD to capturing him, and PRIMUS has announced that it will assist. Nighthawk has been seen at the site of no less than ten major super-crimes...

How about addressing this list of 80 bugs you caused by rushing this AT into the game?

This after a rollback so you could supposedly fix the bugs first...

see this thread about them here

Clearly updating the dev blog about Nighthawk takes priority over fixing the rampant bugs and crash errors.

    Epic Fail, Cryptic.

Because a community manager has anything to do with bug fixes whatsoever. I love it, we complain about no communication, so turtle (awesomely) steps up to bat and starts chatting. Then, people complain because he's talking and spinning lore instead of doing another person's job.

I think I get why we lost communication for a while, so as politely as possible? Stfu, guys. This is awesome, and don't presume to know what turtle's job is.

Turtle? More like this, please. The lore that's been popping up around Nighthawk is very engaging. I don't remember the last time we got pure lore handed to us outside of a mission.

I like the bits of "flavor" you guys add to the site.

The only thing I'd like to see about this event, (without giving anything away), would be to make things a little less cut-and-dry regarding Nighthawk - makes things more circumstantial and delve into possibilities a bit more...

Straight up wrong. If TrailTurtle's only job was to regurgitate press releases, he could be replaced by the proverbial small shell script.

A Community Manager's job is to ensure a dialog between players and developers. Right now, that's not happening. Right now, we have serious concerns about the number and magnitude of bugs in production. Some of us can't even launch the game. We've been effectively locked out of our accounts.

With a patch this bad, somebody should have been addressing the player community first thing Monday morning.

    It is now Tuesday night.

    We've heard NOTHING.

No plan for fixes. No explanation of what went wrong. Not even an acknowledgement that anything is wrong in the first place.

TrailTurtle has that "Community Manager" title under his name, so he should be the first one to step up and say something. But I really don't care if it's him, Stokan, or Overmeyer at this point.

Champions Online is broken right now, and somebody from Cryptic Studios needs to SAY SOMETHING.

A little from column A, a little from column B. I did write all of this one, plus all of the APB earlier, though. I like writing, especially when the source material's in such an old-school-comics vein. I reread my Chris Claremont X-Men pretty frequently.

I've got some fan-fiction lore involving one of my alts and centering around a future event... maybe it'll see the light of day. Pretty happy about it, though.

sistersilicon: The one thing in there that I haven't been aware of is the difficulties logging in. Could you provide either repro steps or a sense of what may have made it impossible to log in?

At 10:00PM, here is the best answer I can provide: We are aware and working on it. It's not a happy answer, and I wish I had a better one. Right now, the Champs team is working on all of the biggest, showstopping bugs in particular. You've seen that I've asked for lists of MIA costume pieces, and we have an internal list of enemies that are broken right now. The latter should be a systematic rather than a case-by-case fix, if everything goes well.

I'm very hopeful that this week's patch will resolve most, if not all, of these issues. I know that the developers want these resolved ASAP, and are working as hard as possible towards that. If you would like to contribute towards that, I highly recommend jumping onto the PTS -- the community will always have more eyes than we do.

Thanks for getting back to us, TrailTurtle. And I apologize for going snapshow last night. I'm sure it's been a frustrating weekend for everybody.

Check out the Bugs & Technical Issues/PC & Technical Issues section. The first page is almost entirely folks suffering from crashes and/or launcher problems.

In my particular case? I should note that I uninstalled and started fresh from the latest torrent Friday night, because I was having invalid file issues that Force Verify couldn't fix.

On the Live server, GameClient.exe crashes anywhere between the Cryptic logo and the character select screen. I was at least reaching character select over the weekend, but since Monday, it's been almost immediate. Different combinations of Safe Mode and Force Verify have had no effect. On PTS, the Launcher crashes after downloading about 43MB. Further attempts to download crash immediately.

Problem is, that the PTS version is for unknown reasons so different from Live that we so often
have bugs on one of the server that not appear on the other. You really should try to bring
them both on the same level else all testing makes no sense.

And als bring back the Z-Store on the PTS finally, who knows what problems come simply
from that fact. I know for example at least that i can't select costumes in the Tailor that
i have bought after the removed the C-Store from PTS.

Frustrating weekends will continue as long as the devs persist in this ridiculous idea of pushing main patches live on fridays then going home for the weekend leaving all the issues even unknown for days before they start fixing them!

They need to adopt a sensible stance and patch updates on mondays so they have the week to stabalize them so that weekends when the servers are busiest are as stable and bug free as posible from patches, NOT the current sitauation where they are at their WORSE!

I honestly have yet to see him any where other than the one time i had managed to get into the nighthawk? alert. I'm still curious if he actually pops up in other alerts or during missions. Beyond that I enjoy the little things like the news of the world. I just feel bad that so many people ignore it and jump straight into the "u borke this game" talk. I'm digging the little extra stuff, and as stated earlier, thank you trailturtle for at least responding. When every one, player and dev alike, are getting frustrated, the last thing we need is lack of communication.

This is why I miss the patch day being on a Tuesday instead of a Friday, when bugs made it through then the devs normally would have a fix patch ready by the end of the week to prevent such a terrible impact on the weekend play times when the devs are away.

    Hahah. Awesome.

I think this is an outstanding step forward for Cryptic. Not only is TrailTurtle helping to finally bridge the gap between players and staff, but he's also bringing in some fun lore.

Major kudos. Keep up the good work!

Leafing through the morning newspaper, Craig Carson, the superhero Thundrax, looked at the report on the rogue vigilante and quickly scanned it, accidentally dunking a corner of the page into his orange juice as he read the key points. Finishing the article, the big Canadian let loose a long sigh:

"This is far too sloppy for Nighthawk. Not being seen is his entire MO. Ten sightings? Riight..."

Thundrax mulled the usual list of possibilities. Either he's being controlled, or it's a poseur, or he's trying to infiltrate the underworld, Thundrax thought as he pushed the paper aside, shaking his head. Of course, this could all just be a set up to trap Defender and the Champions. "I'd better find the jerk before anyone else does and learn the truth." he finally told himself. Of course that might put him at odds with Surhoff, who was a friend, and PRIMUS, who were not. But some jobs, dirty as they were, needed to be done.

    ----
Thanks Trailturtle and dev team. Been waiting for Nighthawk to make his appearance for a long time.
