Login Screen Won't Remember New Account Name

This is a minor thing, but it does bug me.

Ever since I converted my Cryptic account to a PW account, the "remembered" account name on the login screen (in game, not in the launcher) remains my Cryptic account name. I've tried unchecking "Remember my account name" and closing the game like that. But as soon as I re-check the box, the next time I'm on the login screen, it still shows my Cryptic account name, failing to remember the new one.

I don't know if it works, since i have the same PWE loginname than Cryptic, but i had that
    idea a while ago :

    edit the "gamprefs.pref" under CO\live\Localdata

search for "PrefEntry Login.Username" and the change the LoginName there, and try
    if it works.

Also, give feedback please if it works or not

That suggestion works for the launcher, but it doesn't work for the 'what you see when you log out to change characters' screen. At least it doesn't for me (as my file lists the launcher info which does show).

This wouldn't even be much of an issue if they just gave us a "Return to character select" button like basically every other mmo in history has.

But yeah, it's majorly annoying, I'm just glad my PWE account name is only a bit different than my Cryptic name so i don't have to type it all over again.

This annoys me too. In the registry there's a key that has your username, but that only has an effect on the Launcher, not the in-game window which you're referring to, Piratespice.

I tried deleting the executable and seeing if a fresh version would pick up fresh settings but no luck. I'll play around with some more ideas while maintenance is on and if I have any success then I'll post back here.

Stuffy on the old CO forums. PWE ate my username.

Im having this same problem too and its beginning to annoy the crap out of me. Im lucky at least that I only need to type 1 word in order to log on. Im still stupi-fied as to why there isn't any "return to characters" button or something instead of a "log out and enter your whole damn password again".

Has anyone discovered a solution for this issue yet?

    There is no solution.
It's up to Cryptic/PW to make something to happen.

I wonder if the now-mandatory PWE account linking will bring more attention to this problem, or maybe a solution when they (I assume) update the launcher and login screens to be PWE-exclusive on the eleventh.

I for one have put off linking accounts as long as possible because I had heard of this error being so widespread and nothing being done about it.

Now we're all in the same boat of major irritation. Sad day.

best solution would be to save your login/password as a macro

or you can change the pref file

    Champions Online\Champions Online\Live\Localdata
    if using steam
    Steam\steamapps\common\Champions Online\Champions Online\Live\Localdata

    Gameprefs.Pref

    open with notepad

    PrefEntry Login.Username _______________

    change that

    save
(change from txt file to all files in text save dialog)

While that fixes the launcher's login problems (so thank you for that solution!), it doesn't touch the in-game login issues. Overall, with the amount of character-switching I do, it is still a sad day.

    PrefEntry Login.SaveUsername 0

change the line above to that as well

Jasin: Changed the line as recommended, which cleared the account name field in the in-game login screen (although, curiously, NOT the launcher).

However, when I logged in with my shiny new PWE account and checked "Remember my account name", when I logged back out, it filled in my OLD account name again. I double-checked the prefs file, and, no, my old account name isn't stored anywhere in there. GAH.

This is a frustrating mess. All those responsible for this should hang their heads in shame.

Thanks for trying at least. You've helped out more than the devs have.

I did a fresh instal in a new directory since then
That and I use a macro for login
