CO Makes my computer freeze up.

Serious problem here, guys.
I've been playing for months now and never had a problem. I play on the lowest graphics setting due to having an old computer, but it hasn't been a problem sofar. I upgraded to a Gold account just last Monday, btw.
But since yesterday everytime I log in, choose my character and spawn in the game (currently in Vibora Bay) it takes a few moments and my whole computer freezes up. Nothing works. I have to reset the computer and then my screen looks as if it is slightly zoomed in and in widescreen format.

I've checked the computer for viruses and there are none. It never freezes when I go online or watch movies and whatnot; only while trying to play CO.

What the hell is wrong?

Could maybe be just overheating. Check if your CPU-Cooler is maybe full of dust.

I used to have issues with overheating (as I got the computer from my sister who didn't treat it very well) but I have a cooling fan for it that it sits on and this happens even when the computer is quite cool; I usually only play for an hour and then let it rest.

The thing is, the CPU gets really hot in some seconds when you start a game that makes
    heavy usage of your CPU.

OK sorry to tell you this but it sounds like the GPU is pulling away from the cards motherboard..works fine then BAMO it freezes.

Sort of the same issues the original XBOX 360 had you know the old Red Ring Of Death..seems your because you sister let the computer overheat the graphics card has started to eat its self.

My advice buy a cheapo graphics card on ebay hopefully you can find one that is actually better than your current one.

I got an ATI R600 there for $30 bucks.

Yeah, but it's still strange. When it overheated in the past, the whole computer just died on me; just shut down with a black screen. It didn't freeze like this.

I took a look in the fan (it's a Targus cooling fan) and it does look like it could use a bit of a cleaning, but I have no idea how I can do that as there doesn't seem to be a way to actually open it to clean it; just small holes that you can't even fit a Q-tip through.

You see thats why it is the graphics card not the actual computer the computer doesnt die. You have dealt with the heating problem but the damage was already done to the card :/

Oh. Serious crap situation. I really don't have any money for a new graphics card (unemployed comicbook writer) so that is going to suck severely.

Might as well just try and save up for a whole new computer seeing as this one is already old, instead of trying to find spare parts for it.

It's sad that this has happened just when I've payed for a Gold upgrade for the first time and gotten my character right the way I wanted it to be.

    Well, thanks for the insight.

I have an old, cheppo air compressor for this. Blow the dust out.

An advice, don't use it inside your house ... all sorts of **** comes out :/

To clean your comp buy some air in a can.

I have also vacuumed mine, which has worked moderately well, but not as good as my first suggestion.
