Taking Control of Abandoned Super Group

sundevil3sundevil3 Posts: 48 Arc User
Back in 2010, I got together with another player and created a Super Group. We designated one of his characters as guild leader, and all of our alts joined the group. It was pretty much always a private SG just for the two of us. (We had a third member for a while, but he's been gone for almost two years now.)

We bought all the possible guild bank slots and used them to share crafting materials, etc.

Today, I'm the only active player left in the SG. To the best of my knowledge, the other player (the SG leader) hasn't logged in since late 2010. He contacted me via his STO account and told me he received a 30-day ban in Champions Online, but I never saw him again after that.

Is there any way for me to take control of the SG, since the SG leader has abandoned it?

I petitioned about this as well, been since march since any other member had logged in, let alone the leader and was advised no by CS. Kinda silly, but it is what it is I suppose.

They wont let you causes to much hassle.

Example December 2011 - January 2012 was playing TOR for the first month to see if it was sucky or wut (was sucky) . Came back some random I had promoted a few ranks up the ladder (they had some invite and kick powers plus others) was acting like some power crazed nutcase had renamed group to Heroes of Infinate goodness (typoes included). Apparently for that month they had been saying it was their group now even when I came back, him and some noobs he had invited tried to take over and mouth off.

Never have I had to kick so many so fast and restored my groups true name ,much smugness was had...but I must say the others did wut they were told for a few weeks, hell I even got them to wear SG colors :D

I tangent but my point is if I was you I wouldn't lay claim your SG leadership the real boss might just come back.

Why not just start a new SuperGroup and transfer all the bank contents? Doesn't it only cost a few Locals or Nationals to buy the slots?

I didn't really care about the contents of the bank, I just liked the SG name lol. I found a good SG now however, so it is kinda moot.

Actually, I have no idea what it costs. I assumed they were expensive, which is one of the two reasons I would rather keep this SG than start a new one (the other reason is that I like the name).

Does anybody know how much the SG bank slots cost? I haven't been able to find that information anywhere.

With regard to the name, could I rename the current SG to some name I don't want, and then create a new SG with the previous name?

    Yes, after a fashion

ANY time a SG is "named" it takes up a PERMENANT residence in CO's "SG Name" database.
That name is used up FOREVER.
(i'm unsure what happens to that name if you DELETE a SG, try it at your own risk)

    BUT, you can cheat

I screwed up on my alt SG's name (Fallen) and added a "." to the end (Fallen.)
It looked Funny, so i tried to swap it back (Fallen).
It said, "name taken" (by me before i changed it).
So i changed it again (.Fallen.), and it looked ok, so i kept it.

You might want to try something similar.
But be forwarned, the ORIGINAL name is gone forever once it's used or changed :frown:

Were there any specific reason for that personal attack other than that your opinion differs from mine?

I'm pretty sure it's less than 2G to unlock all of them. It's seriously that inexpensive.

I'm not sure if you're still interested in following this up, Sundevil, but I had a similar thing happen to me not long after release. I posted an explanation as a GM ticket, and some time later, I logged that character on to find he was the SG leader. It may have been a week or more (this is a while ago). I'd suggest doing something similar. Use the "last logged in" part of the SG roster to back up your claim to take over, and specify why you want to be leader. Best of luck.

Incidentally one of the coolest features of SG's is being able to rename them ad infintum at no charge.

Stuffy on the old CO forums. PWE ate my username.

This might not actually be true.

I run a super group called Thunder and Fire Couriers. It's mainly for roleplaying, thematic, and storage purposes since I don't really do any active recruiting, but I digress.

One day I realized that the three "flagship" characters of the group wore blue, red, and green. Capitalizing on this I renamed the guild to Couriers of Light. It was a reference to how they delivered JUSTICE or something, I don't know.

A few days later I decided that that was stupid so I renamed the guild back to Thunder and Fire Couriers, exactly as it had been. I didn't have to put a period in it or screw with the capitalization, it let me have the name just as it had been.

You definitely can't name a guild the same as another one that already exists, but I don't think there's any kind of draconian "once a name is used it is never available again ever" sort of thing.
