Advertising isn't under the control of Cryptic anymore but Perfect World Entertainment, there is currently not PWE games on the Amazon F2P list, when/if there is at some point then CO and STO will both likely be on there.
Lets put it this way; someone mentioned in a thread recently that they were in a comic book convention where Cryptic had a stand, and the only ads they had there were for STO... in a comic book convention.
That's how much they care about advertising this game
I feel I'm going to regret asking this but would you mind explaining that?
A true free game consists of all the content (classes, skills, quests, currencies, multiple character slots, etc) free of charge, making the entire game and all it has to offer available to players regardless of money invested (see perfect world games, ****, Lineage 2, and other korean grinders for an example). The game makes its money on extra bag expansions to further manage things, bank slots, exp increases, drop chance increases, and cosmetic gear.
Champions online is a freemium game. Yes, it does offer everything up to cap and a vast majority of its content available, but the key eye catcher of the game(freeform) is completely barred off without money, making it not truly free in most people's eyes. They force players who use micro transactions to pay if they want a feature that the game should offer for free (if it were truly free).
For instance: If you want to play with the power armor archetype, you have to pay $15. While the archetype might not cost $15 it requires you to spend that much as the increments for cash shop currency do not allow an $11.50 option. This is not by any means a truly free game.
While this isn't my view, I believe this to be what he speaks of, as well as a lot of people. Though I guess if one were to use technicalities this would be true.
it first has to be free to be listed, this is in fact not a true free game thus the reason.
Or it could be that PWE has an all or nothing policy in terms of advertising, (Indeed if I see ads for Forsaken World or Perfect World International I'll see a CO ad in the same spot at some point) and Amazon want to charge PWE a large amount to list all their games on Amazon's F2P games section.
Or PWE refuse to give Amazon a cut of the profits from starter packs/Zen sales sold through the Amazon website.
Or PWE just haven't gotten around to submitting their games to Amazon for it.
Seriously, there's a multitude of reasons for why it isn't listed yet, not all of them are PWE doesn't want to advertise the game or CO isn't really F2P.
Not true. Get some Questionite, trade it for Zen, but Freeform.
Do surveys for two weeks, get Freeform.
Two options, neither cost you a cent.
Enjoy!
The problem behind that is that most people want to use questionite for what it is meant for, the questionite store. The act of buying zen with questionite is giving away content for content. This puts up another wall for content that was put into game.
Secondly, the questionite grind is simply not worth it. You will be better off paying a monthly sub than grind out all that is needed.
As for surveys. A lot of people do not qualify for ones that actually give a reasonable amount, and I doubt anyone wants to take hours out of their day to do surveys when they could be playing the game. Furthermore not every kid has daddy's credit card to flash around for a trial.
I'm not going to argue, I'm just going to say that some people don't see what you stated as an option. Not everything is black and white, their are always shades of gray.

Okay, to be entirely fair, Smacks was perfectly accurate, and his processes are completely correct. They may not be easy, they may not be convenient or efficient - but getting "pay" content for just gameplay is not only a way to get around any costs, but for some players, it might be fun. Questionite farming is undoubtedly a drag - to some people. Others may be giggling like a schoolgirl and thinking, "I get to play this for free? I get to convert Q into Zen? I get to BUY FREEFORMS? AND play Champions? YAY FOR CHAMPIONS ON ONLINE!!!"
As for what Questionite is meant for - it's meant for whatever someone wishes to use it for, no? Some players want Questionite but don't want to farm for it - some like getting Questionite but aren't interested in Q-gear or travel powers. Sounds like a perfect match to me!
No need to drag a brother down, friend. Smacks was right (not that your points were invalid either, of course...)
Grind. Grind never changes.
If you're playing CO and reporting any bugs, you're STILL an unpaid QA technician.
"Because we're not satisfied until you're not satisfied" - message from PW customer service.

If the survey doest like you....lie to it about the questions, the survey (most of the time) has no record of who you are, what you do,etc. So if it sounds like it is meant for a specific crowd.......the simple way to still get your Z is lie to the survey about the question.
I didn't even know that Amazon had a F2P section until this post came up. CO and STO were already listed in the game download section, but the games listed on the actual F2P section in Amazon seem... cheap.

Precisely. Different day, same discussions. The game isn't entirely free...until it's explained exactly how it is free...and then an attempt is made to explain why the free options available don't really count as free...insert speaking for a silent majority for flavor, set nonsense to 425 degrees and cook for 3 years. People want to use Questionite for what it's meant for? Doesn't matter, you can still get freeform for zero of your money.
You doubt anyone wants to take hours out of their day to do surveys? I do them at work during break/lunch sometimes. Already got 30 bucks worth of Zen out of it in a couple weeks.
If some people don't see these things as an option, that's their problem. The options are there. You can't say you're completely barred off without paying real money if you're just choosing not to use your options.

i know i get a useless speech against me but, they are done with TONS of grinding and with archtypes it's a hell to do so.
not only that, at the time you have enough zen you rather uninstall the game then bother at all anymore.
btw, i was revering on the sub ppl still have to pay for, a free game doesn't have a sub cost.

Optional sub is optional. There is zero required content barred behind a door with a credit card keylock. Why does this have to be repeated so often?

The money has to come from somewhere. If not from your wallet, someone else's. It is still barred off by money.

Yes, grinding, or just playing the game, whatever. You get Questionite for doing all sorts of things. I've gotten almost 300,000 Questionite, never once even looking for it. Don't know how much that translates into Zen, but the fact is, it's easy to get, even if you're not looking for it. You're just focusing on the negative, as you normally do.
The money has to come from somewhere. If not from your wallet, someone else's. It is still barred off by money.
Good try, but it doesn't matter. Why do you care what someone else is doing with their money? The fact is that there's Zen available 24/7, and it's not money out of your pocket. Saying that the money has to come from someone's wallet is a last-ditch defense. You can still get freeform without spending a dime.
With this defense, you're basically saying that you should be able to get freeform, without Cryptic or Perfect World seeing a dime for it, even if it's not out of your wallet. My question is - why?
Such a strange, loosely-cobbled together set of standards.

As I have previously stated I do not think I am entitled to anything. I do recall posting that I do not believe what other people have told me, and have verbally expressed on the forums no less. I am fully subbed, and happy with what I have. These are the complaints I usually here from those who are referred to by the game, or have tried playing it first hand. A lot of people still do not see this as a fully free to play game. I am simply stating what I have been told, and why they believe it to not be free. Not liking it is your own belief. It doesn't make your thoughts on the matter true or false, neither does it benefit their cause in the least. Either way, to most people it still is not free.
edit: Also for you post on the other dudes quote, that's 2000 zen at a 150Q per 1 zen exchange rate. Which is quite nice, and roughly the amount I've obtained just leveling a character.
The money has to come from somewhere. If not from your wallet, someone else's. It is still barred off by money.
In the games you gave as example of really free every last bit of free content comes only because others are spending money on the game.
I am 100% positive that if no one was spending money on the various purchasable options available in those games, you know money coming from somewhere, they would not provide that content for free.
So every single game, whether you choose to call it free or not, has its money coming from somewhere.
Even if Bill Gates decided to fund a FtP game out of his own pocket so that no player ever had to spend a cent in the game...there would still be money coming from somewhere to provide that playable content.
Sorry you cant legitimately argue that one game is free for you because its content is supported by someone else spending money on the game, but that another game isnt considered free because someone else is supporting it by spending money.
i know i get a useless speech against me but, they are done with TONS of grinding and with archtypes it's a hell to do so.

Every free game out there you can choose to spend $15 per month if you want. Sub is a label that dont mean nothing here. If your gonna be technical and all something that is totally and truly free dont have any cost to it at all. Cant spend money on it. None of those "real" free games is any more really free than champs. Both cases you get some for free and can choose to pay for more.
Been getting lots of Q on my AT without any problem. Without it feeling like grind either. Real fun so far. Pretty big chunk of the way to enough to get a FF slot already.
Figure Ill watch exchange rates and sell off my Q when really nice stuff is added to the Q store. Like as not people will pay more zen for my Q then.
Maybe youre just burnt out on the game and thats why feels like grind to you ? Happens to everyone in just about every game---that I seen I should say. No biggie, you just take a break and when you come back the grind just feels like playing the game again.
Sorry you cant legitimately argue that one game is free for you because its content is supported by someone else spending money on the game, but that another game isnt considered free because someone else is supporting it by spending money.
Let's be honest here Ashen. Has this argument ever been "legitimate"?
