Nemesis Suggestions

Hello Forum, long time lurker seldom a poster.

I jailed my first Nemesis today which I then discovered that in time they will begin a new plot and try to break out until I either retire them and make a new one or reactivate another one. The reason I am mentioning this is because while I am excited to make another Nemesis, I fear that it is really just going to be the same song and dance all over again. So here are some suggestions I have for the Nemesis system for whenever the devs decide they can spare some time to it.

Minion Customization:
As a Silver player I lack colour customization for my own powers but I was pleasantly surprised that I could alter my Nemesis/Minions colour. I would like to see this taken one step further and allow altering the colours of the minions wardrobe seeing how they are usually only one or two colours it could be easy enough to do and it will add more to that thing that makes Champs stand out; Customization.

Catchphrase:
While it may sound corny I like the idea of having my Nemesis have a cheesy kissoff line when they are defeated or when we meet up.

Nemesis Solo Missions:
Kind of like that last mission before they are put in jail the first time but instead of being caught they just get away, maybe slipping a hit or a clue as to what they are up to next.

Nemesis Lairs:
Now that we have a hideout of our own (or I will when I purchase my first one.) Wouldn't it be nice to be able to pick a secret lair for your Nemesis to reside in and maybe that could be where they are before jail and before they are retired. Even cooler if it could be more than an instance mission but more along the lines of Teleios Tower or Dr. Destroyer's Factory. If they scaled with levels as well that would be sweet. I don't really know if they do currently or not.

Moar Missions!

By far the Nemesis System is probably my fave aspect of Champions Online thus far, but it seems over so quickly and the missions themselves are so few and far between that I almost forgot about it. In fact I was 31 before I jailed my Nemesis for the first time. Why don't Nemesis' ever kidnap anyone or do more attention-grabbing stunts like trying to take out the statues in Milennium City or trying to take out the city's power supply?

Moar Personalities!
By this I mean things like;

"Power Hungry" - They want nothing more in the world than to rule the world and no one will get in their way.

"Revenge" - They were slighted in the past, maybe it was by you or some other person in the world and they won't stop until they feel they have gotten their revenge.

"Misunderstood" - They aren't really evil or bad they just don't know any better and while they keep making mistakes they really think they aren't doing anything all that bad.

"Diabolical" - Kicking puppies is a past-time for these guys and that is only the beginning. They know right from wrong and they choose wrong all the time because it is infinitely more fun.

"Competitive" - It's not like they want to be the bad guy, they just want to know they are better than you at everything. If they can keep you guessing what their next move is that is a good thing in their books.

"No Choice" - Something in their life is out of their control and they need money or a device or something. Whatever it is they are acting out of desperation. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

"Insane" - There is no reasoning with these ones. They have no moral compass and they are a lost cause even Arkam Asylum couldn't help them.

"Underdog" - A brand new Villian looking to make a name for themselves. They will make lots of mistakes and will lose a lot but their ambition is what makes them a worthy adversary.

"Brainwashed" - Acting out of control, working for a higher unknown, unseen being. Maybe they were in a cult or something. Whatever it is, whoever they are, you have no choice but to stop them.

"Fallen Hero" - Being a hero isn't easy. Maybe you lost someone you cared about. Maybe two many innocents got hurt or even killed because you couldn't be there at the right time or the right place. Whatever happened happened and this Nemesis snapped. They have lost the fight for the light in this world and now they only see darkness. You almost feel sorry for them at times.

That is all I have for now, but I would like to end this post by saying that as it is currently the Nemesis is great but it just seems for something so unique to the game it's just been kind of brushed off to the side in favor of new "become" devices and other C-Store content. Please devs give love to the Nemesis! :)

Nemesis Missions do need to take place about twice as often as they currently do. A larger selection of Missions, especially Instanced Missions, would certainly be welcome.

I also agree with customizing the Minion look; in fact, I suggested "Team Colors" myself a short while ago. I also would like to see them listed not as Nemesis Minion onscreen, but <Nemesis> Minion (such as Master Disaster Minion, CyberLich Minion, Hot Fox Minion, etc.).

Nemesis Lairs would be interesting; I think the user would have to do something like select from a menu matching the Hideouts, and the system would either select the specific elements randomly, based on Powers and Personality, or pre-selected by the devs.

As for having more Nemesis Personalities, that's been suggested many times. I think, though, that in suggesting new Personalities one must think in terms of just changing the dialogue in the existing Instanced Missions; many suggestions would call for entirely new and specific Mission arcs. A few that I favor include:

Annihilator [Mechanon]: Wants to just wipe out humanity, if not all life on Earth.

Challenger [Firewing]: Just out to show that he's smarter and/or tougher than any hero, especially the PC.

Servant [Slug]: Preparing the world for the Kings of Edom, or some similarly vile masters.

Terrorist [Fiacho]: Wants to overthrow the governments of Earth, and take charge himself.

Thank you for your input and I agree with everything you said as well. I'm also aware that it has been stated many times before, it just seems like too an important feature to ignore so I thought I would spark conversation again.

I definitely agree with the Nemesis thing needing more. I was excited at first but that excitement died rather quickly as everything seemed so generic.

I like all the ideas suggested above as it would definitely add some flavor to the nem system.

    Really cool personalities and description!

Something else that might be interesting... different possible out comes for the Nemesis.

Like becoming good, death, becoming more powerful, or something.

Just anything to where Nemesing doesn't always end the same way.

Even just multiple possible "go to jail" scenarios would be a big plus.

I totally agree with that! Great suggestion thank you for bringing it to the thread. It's sad that all my nemesis' will currently share the same fate, I haven't even jailed mine permanently yet and all I can think is are they all gonna end up in the same place? Can I visit them?

Are all Nemesis missions (where you actually fight your Nemesis) are they all indoor instances? Does that need to be changed?

Yes to the first question; currently a Nemesis (like most Bosses) only shows up indoors.

To the second, also Yes (IMO), though I'd have open appearances occur only on a limited basis.

How about letting us enter a queue to play someones Nemesis in one of the Nemesis encounters.

    I like this idea!

I fought my Nem today where she actually escaped on me. Then again I have never really had a Nemesis this far along before so it is all new to me. Can't wait to create a new one! :D

I would also like to see is a second costume for your nemesis, like a causal wear instead of just super powered or a disguise, or a social clothes to not wear his villain armor to blend in a crowd.

Because in the jail scenario, I find it ridiculous that they let my nemesis, Orville Wyatt(AKA Warpath) keep his 7 foot tall power armor in his cell...

I think that there should be two more nemesis personalities than BobGreenwade said. One would be the Fallen Hero (I don't have a suggestion for the poster character) and the other should be the Evil Twin (Witchcraft and Arcana).

Nice one, I don't know why I didn't think of evil twin it seems to make sense. I do like the idea of prison uniforms though. It does seem silly to let a super villian have their weapons and armor allowed to be kept on them at all time, no wonder the minions seem to be able to help Nemesises break out all the time lol.

Maybe instead of just "going to jail" They could be sent off to another dimension or sealed away in a crypt/tomb/underwater container/carbonite etc?

Along with personality types, shouldn't we be able to give them a voice from the available voiced characters in the game, like Talisman or Medusa?

I think the problem with prison uniforms is when using costumes that have growths or are a part of the villain's body.
Perhaps it would be best if villains had an extra costume slot, which can be modified, but is intended for when they're in prison or freshly escaped or just didn't want to do drycleaning.

Here are some new nemesis personalities I suggested in an older thread:

    The Servant
    Picture: Black Talon
Description: Your nemesis commits all his/her evil deeds not just for him-/herself, but for a shady figure refered to only as "the Master" (who turns out to be no one other than Shadow Destroyer). He/she lives to further this dark master's goals and is absolutely loyal to him.
Note: This one seems to be the easiest to be intergrated into the game.

    The Greedwell
Picture: Guy Sweetland (I thought about Kevin Poe first, but no one takes him serious - and he doesn't look like a "businessman" anymore either.)
Discription: Your nemesis is deep into dirty business. No matter what kind of evil plans he/she is working out; in the end, it's all just about money.

    The Occultist
    Picture: Luther Black
Discription: Your nemesis uses malicious magic for his/her shadowy schemes and diabolical deeds. His/her crimes always have a mystical purpose or background, and be it just to fullfill a dark prophecy.

    The General
    Picture: Clyde Von Shoulz
Discription: Your nemesis is of a military or paramilitary orgin, seeking power through the both stategical and ruthless use of armed force.

    The Manipulator
    Picture: Menton
Discription: No matter what happens, your nemesis is always in total control of everything - or at least, he/she thinks or just pretends he/she is. However, he/she has a greatly oversized ego and loves to play twisted and deadly games with you.

    The Arch Enemy
Picture: Just a dark siluette with evil glowing eyes.
Discription: Your nemesis is an enemy of yours for quite a time and hates you with a passion that boarders on the irrational. All he/she does serves only one purpose: To get YOU!

Side Note: The Savage's picture is in need for a change because that kind of nemesis is nothing like Grond. Ripper or Armadillo would be better to represent this personality.

I'll never understand why they don't expand more on Nemesis system as it's one of the most unique features in the game.

As for personalities, we're missing an Immortal/God-like one for villains who think they are beyond mortal understanding and keep reminding us about it.

The Nemesis system could do with regular expansions. These ideas are good ones.

Actually, an expansion/reworking of the Nemesis system is one of the announced things that's being worked on.

My own contribution to the Personalities list is an Annihilator (picture: Mechanon), the individual who wants to wipe out all of human life if not all life, period.

That picture would be a problem, because Mechanon is a computer program without a visible body.

I think we should be able to customize the minions fully. Given the abundance of new costume pieces, the minions look stale and tired. Especially with all of the new robot and power armor sets, having robot minions is almost quaint. Plus, I really want my steampunk robot army for my main's nem.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.
