Supernatural Regen/Enrage Tank

I've been finding Regen to be a very useful passive when combined with high damage resistance. And Supernatural Power is a convenient Energy Unlock for Massacre tappings and Poisoning. The defense resistance is 88-118% (30% range due to Regeneration decreasing at times), DPS is ~2,500, and HPS is ~600.

On paper this is not as strong a heal or damage as my Ego Blader build but convenient on many levels because you can heal while blocked/held/knocked plus lots of Knock resistance.

Name: Vanguard

Archetype: Freeform

Super Stats:
Level 6: Strength (Primary)
Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
Level 15: Dexterity (Secondary)

Powers:
Level 1: Bestial Fury
Level 1: Infernal Blast (Crippling Challenge)
Level 6: Supernatural Power
Level 8: Regeneration(Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Epidemic (Rank 2 w/Adv)
Level 14: Massacre (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Enrage (Endorphin Rush)
Level 20: Masterful Dodge
Level 23: Parry (Rank 2, Elusive Monk)
Level 26: Aggressor (Rank 2, Rank3)
Level 29: Circle of Primal DominionRank 2, Rank 3
Level 32: Resurgence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 35: Lock N Load (Two Smoking Barrels)
Level 38: Pounce

Specializations:
Strength: Aggression (2/2)
Strength: Physical Peak (3/3)
Strength: Brutality (2/2)
Strength: Juggernaut (3/3)
Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
Warden: Fortified Gear (2/3)
Warden: Tenacious (3/3)
Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
Mastery: Strength Mastery (1/1)

Heroic Gear focused on Crit, Dodge/Avoid and Cost Reduction. Crit Vigilante for Sec. Off.
SS Stats are Str 322 (just cause I want to lift the biggest objects), Dexterity 165, Constitution 275

Juggernaut is critical, adds 3 defense for every 10 Constitution so I am almost at 300 Defense for 70% damage resistance. Also shoots my Offense pretty high for a 40%+ damage buff.

ST Crit Chance is about 47% with around 95% Severity. Dodge/Avoid with Gear and Parry is around 45%/55%. I didn't take Unbreakable Rank 3 because I have seen my shield go down too many times :(

Damage Strategy - Stack 10 poisons quickly with Epidemic then switch to Massacre taps with an Infernal Blast from time to time to refresh the stacks. If this works right, Poisons can add 880-1100 dps (tank/hybrid mode). And Massacre is about 1800 DPS in tank mode. Epidemic is nice when bosses spawn adds and activate Aggressor and you can wipe em before their damage causes you some pain.

Survival Strategy - Regen is nice in that you can block and heal yourself back to full health most of the time. Won't work if you are overwhelmed with a lot of mobs but it may give you time to get Masterful Dodge to recycle or use a Stim. Poisons work nicely because mobs still get hurt while you block.

Circle of Primal Dominion is for massive Knock resistance against certain bosses plus damage resistance.

Lock N Load is again there just for Hold breaking.

Weaknesses: Large numbers of heavy damage adds can overwhelm him when off Masterful Dodge.

Strengths: I solo'd Andrith/Vikorin on Elite in ~40 minutes (flew through as much of the dungeon as I could) so the survivability and DPS is there. And I hope he is virtually unknockable. And my heals should keep the bosses attention off any other healers in team.

So far, this build has been pretty solid. It can solo Teliosaurus. It can survive Gravitar for ~20 minutes (lol, ppl kept dropping out).

On Gravitar, regen seemed really useful because it spared the healers to do the unfortunate job of rezzing. With Resurgence, I never needed heals though Grav one shot me once with a 10K+ through a BLOCK!

Oh and Circle seems really helpful for Grav's knocks.

Thanks for posting that build. I was wanting to use Regen on a toon. I usually stick to Invul. but now that Regen has some damage resist i can see it works well. I've messed around with Regen in PH a bit. My Invul. using toon is hardly damaged by 5 man Hard Demon mobs, but the Regen toon I made had a difficult time [of course was using sup par gear, but still there was a big difference].

Looks like something I would like to try.

Well, I am beginning to think Regen is only doable with lots of Damage Resist which means either Juggernaut on STR or Force of Will on EGO, and maybe with a decent amount of Dodge/Avoid too.

My ranged Regen toon (with alot of Defense) was having a long range shootout with Gravitar today due to lack of any real tank. I should have put her in Tank role but in Hybrid she tanked her for 2.5 bars at about 100ft so no bubbles hit her and Regen healed all her damage (w/a few blocks and Masterful Dodges). She got her in the end with some knocks that got past the Circle :(

Armadillo's 3-set secondaries help (+25% resistance). Secondaries so that you can use UNITY primaries.

I wanted to report on this build's combat experience. So far, it really has exceeded my expectations. With the damage resistance from Defense, this is toon is my most stable Gravitar tank.

And while working on other Tanks builds, I discovered that this build is really great for DPS - I estimate about 2,500 DPS from Massacre plus another 1,000 DPS if you can build 10 stacks of Poison and then just refresh the stacks with an Infernal Blast between multiple taps of Massacre. So a total of 3,500 DPS under ideal conditions. This is due to 41% crit rate with almost 100% severity plus a decent boost from Aggressor from time to time.

EDIT: See below. DPS is actually 3,000 not 3,500.

That's pretty decent damage for a tank character. I'm used to building tanks that focus only on survivability and they suffer horribly damage wise because of it. I'll have to try this build out. It seems very impressive.

Heh wrong account. Pesky PWE joint accounts. Still though once the servers come back up I'm trying this out.

Oops, I made a mistake in calculating DPS, I forgot Poison stack proc only every 1 sec. His actual DPS is about 3,000. Still pretty decent but sorry for the error!

How does this tank do with threat generation? It has only 1 power for active taunting.

I would rate this build fair for threat.

This build wasn't designed to rely on CC or CS for threat but rather damage and heals. At about 1500 heal per 3 seconds plus ~3K DPS this build could use a few seconds to generate threat before very high DPS toons open up on the target. Poison DoTs are also nice for keeping agg when your are held or knocked away.

Doesn't really need too much healing so press Masterful Dodge and tell your team to wait 15 seconds if they are really concerned.
