Okay, lets line up this discussion so that I hit both the crux of my thoughts, and the opposition.
Caprice has been a duel free zone for a long time. Of course, it's the starting zone place to hang out so cut some slack right? Duels used to be apart of caprice, including destructible furniture from what I've been informed. However, this was changed when it went F2P, perhaps someone might tell me why?
Oh but lets imagine it for but a moment. Lots of level 6-20 people dueling in caprice. No role playing could get done (which lets be honest, is the only reason to even go in), and people would be forced to not enter unless high level or be just owned. This in turn would create a situation where you have great character concepts, but people would have to get them to high level to present a believable powerlevel. That's right, no more gods, no more devils, just a level 6 meta-gamer and a level 40 with a big stick.
This of course, draws in the RP fight debate or duel debate. Most people would naturally say duel so if they have a really awesome PvP build, boom it doesn't matter. Be it god, man, or alien. Suddenly there is a champion to best them who's description says he's only a retired UNTIL officer... great ego boost, but of course not everyone plays gods and such. That is callous to suggest. But it's the stereotypical situation where duels are loved... and also the level 6-12 trolls.
Now here is the compromise. Two seperate zones. "But Mr. Lights, there are already up to 4 zones in high traffic." Yes nameless one, I know this. I suggest, that these zones be either split or some added.
What am I saying? Give us a PvP zone or two in caprice. Or an option to turn it on or off. *OR* (hold on lads and lasses), the ability for a zone to vote on people to kick from zones for a period of time.
Am I asking a lot? Probably more then I think. Would it be an improvement? Yes. Do the role players of caprice deserve a break from endless trolling and idiots that compound a mockery of what the game stands for? Absolutely. Who am I to say what the game stands for though... well I'm a player who sees other players *leave* the game because they are only playing for the joy of creating entire ~people~ from their imaginations and letting them interact in a world that is vast and wonderful with many other avatars that walk, talk, and have distinct personalities... trolls disrupt that experience for them, thus they do not have fun, and then leave and take a boat load of like minded people with them to another game that is not related to PW.
Thus, I ask those who role play in caprice about this. Any ideas? Comments? Criticisms? Let me hear them, I will bend an ear to you. Thank you my fellow Champions.
There are places to Duel in Champions, and there are places to RP. Check out Carl's Gym, for instance, or even the center of RenCen. There's no need to open up CC for Dueling. It's not the purpose of the locale, not the focus of it.. and it doesn't make a lick of sense -aside- from RP-based events that would lead up to a 'bar brawl'.
In other words, to answer your own ponderings with another: why Club Caprice specifically for fights?
It was changed actually before F2P for the roleplaying/social community. They were getting heavily grief'ed with AoE blooms, FX and just plain starting duels on top of their Shakespeare in the Park hi-jinks.
I don't agree with shifting it back cause the rp'ers are also a supported community within this game and I just don't want to hear those complaints again that they don't get love.
Outside of that, I could see the potential of a PvP Hero Games map using Club Caprice. Maybe a 10-Man Team dueling map incorporating the meta-team Open Mission mechanics we see in the Rampage Alerts.

People can decline the duel. Nobody should ever feel forced to duel in any area just because it's allowed.
Edit: Unless I'm thinking of the wrong area.
You might be thinking of the wrong area.
Also, I know if I'm in sherrera's, that if someone even tries to troll me (The old make a level 6 character and start just flying around displacing people gag), that I'd just challenge them until they left. The most someone accepted was 3 times. Each time I beat them with my level 40 stick. Dueling is an effective method of removing irritants, why? Because it's fulfilling to beat the heck out of them *each time*.
Now why can't their be a feature that would at least, as I last stated, be like a voting feature to remove people from instances. Now you might say that this might get abused, but what if it only worked on people whom are ignored by 5-10+ people in the instance?

If the troll has managed to disrupt your RP to the point that you'd have to duel them, congratulations for giving them exactly the kind of response that they want.
Trolls thrive on some kind of response. The most effective way to deal with them is to pretend that they're not there, not duel them.
Although I am normally in favor of the idea of allowing everyone to play however they want wherever they want, the reality of the matter is that a couple of duel free instances can be very important to an RP community. Dueling in Caprice was being used specifically to grief RPers, so it was removed.
There are plenty of places to duel in CO. Having a couple of locations where RPers can play without being harassed is reasonable. Spending the already stretched thin dev resources to add new instances of Caprice for dueling seems less so.
Another thing I want to point out is that it's a club, not a Hero Games arena. RP-wise I don't think the authorities would tolerate people fighting all the time inside and I have no doubt that they'd be thrown out by capable bouncers.

Well, Caprice is home to characters engaging in RP in violation of the laws of the CU. If we follow this chain, Caprice should be shut down and many of the characters that have been using it should be in Stronghold.
All right... well, no duels in Caprice. Here's why:
1- Go out to a bar or club and start a fight. Ideally, a high-profile one. Notice how fast you get slammed by security and police officers, taken to jail, and generally humiliated for acting like a savage in public. Now, whether or not you had to do that to realize how stupid it was and that you look like a childish idiot- imagine if you did that same thing with an automatic weapon, flamethrower, and a chainsaw against someone else equally armed. While entertaining, you see how it would likely end up with your local police department and/or SWAT team filling your body full of copper-coated chill pills. This is what would likely happen if two super-anythings clashed in Club Caprice. Your -best- case scenario is that you end up in Stronghold because the Champions came down and rang your bell and had you locked away. Sorry, you're a superhero. You don't fight in nightclubs over pointless squabbles and insults. Even if you're not a hero, you know how much attention this brings on you and that you don't need it. Only an idiot would start a brawl in Caprice.
2- Giving the players voting power on who they want in a zone? I can think of no response at all that doesn't have some expletive followed by 'no'. It's bad enough players have the ability to silence someone with absolutely zero accountability and justification. The absolute last thing we need in this game is for a batch of people who, very likely 'in character' will mob together and decide they don't like Super Dave's banter on heroics and boot them out of 'their club'. Then, the trolls will be all over this like a talentless bimbo on a reality show audition. Again, something like this is the very last thing this game should be able to allow players to do, and I'm putting that after 'send STD's via the UNTIL mail system'.

Again, the problem with trying to apply real world logic to the matter is that, in many cases, characters are engaging in activities that would get them thrown out, the authorities called, etc NOW, even without duels.
How do you think any of the following (all of which occur/have occurred in Caprice) would turn out in the real world ?
1) Go to a bar with an assault rifle on your back, pistols on your hips, grenades on a bandolier across your chest, etc.
2) Have an underage individual, some of the backgrounds indicate actual children, go to a club that serves alcohol, and engage in sexual activity with adults.
3) Go to a bar and shoot the other patrons or staff, then announce that everything is OK because you have the power of resurrection.
4) Go to a club and engage in a conspiracy to destroy the United States government, kill public officials, etc.
I don't want to get into a circular debate about comic book logic versus real world logic, but the bottom line is that mechanically and thematically, Club Caprice is a place of socializing, not fighting. Dueling has no place in it. Any sort of "RP fighting" is handled by the parties directly involved, player or npc, and whether or not people outside of such a situation want to involve themselves or not is entirely up to them. A lot of the RP going on in Caprice are mostly limited to inner social circles anyway.

I agree. And, you may have noticed, I posted against dueling in Caprice.
I just don't think that trying to use Roleplay or in game logic to justify it is viable.
The best possible reason for disallowing dueling in Caprice is to allow a subset of CO players to have access to a place where they can pursue their enjoyment of the game without interference. If there had not been a pattern of duel griefing the RPers in Caprice the removal of dueling would likely never have occurred.
OP is not asking for a lot it is true but....
I would not waste a single second of dev time on this horse***t.
Are the open world and hero games arenas not enough for duellists?
If somebody did want a duel with someone else in Caprice perhaps they could give the immortal line...
Outside Now! or perhaps it should be..

About the @handle - it's a long story.
Profound quote.. "I'm not a complete idiot - several parts are missing."
You want to duel? Beyond the open world, there's Ren Cen or the Powerhouse Arenas. Duel in a bar? They're enabled in Sherrera's and Belle's. Duel in a gym? Carl's is a perfect spot for PvP-RP. Duel in a club? They're enabled in the Minefield -- and wth the Queen City chain and smash alert XP, it's pretty easy to get there. Get into a RP conflict with someone in Caprice and want to resolve it with PVP? Take the fight outside.
A Caprice PvP map would be nice, however I suspect the reason people want to duel in Caprice is because it's not allowed, and a map wouldn't satisfy them.
1) Go to a bar with an assault rifle on your back, pistols on your hips, grenades on a bandolier across your chest, etc.
Considering that the club is full of superpowered individuals, it's sort of acknowledged that this is acceptable for the non-powered individuals to have the means to protect themselves in the worst-case scenario.
2) Have an underage individual, some of the backgrounds indicate actual children, go to a club that serves alcohol, and engage in sexual activity with adults.
Poor roleplayers with disturbing tastes is not justification for changing the entire theme of the game's social areas. If this were so, this should be called World of Darkness: Futa Edition.
3) Go to a bar and shoot the other patrons or staff, then announce that everything is OK because you have the power of resurrection.
See previous answer.
4) Go to a club and engage in a conspiracy to destroy the United States government, kill public officials, etc.
Again, previous answer.
I ignore this silliness, I don't cater to it and I don't think the developers should, either.

I am not supporting changing Caprice. I have posted that it should remain duel free. My only point was that using real world logic as the excuse does not work because real world logic would prevent Caprice from being used as it is right now without dueling.
Again, you used the example of starting a fight in a real world bar. I used the example of bringing assault weapons to a real world bar. Neither would be acceptable in the real world.
The only truly viable reason to disallow duels in Caprice is that they are disruptive to the club's intended purpose(s). No other reason is necessary, or really holds water.
I made a suggestion in the past that Caprice should have multiple floors or zones, each with a different motif, you could have, for example:
one with the regular dance club loop,
something a bit more sophisicated for all the gothics and aristocrats,
a rougher bar area like Sherrera's or the Dog Pound,
a more techno club like the Minefield.
There would still be the entrance zone, which could open into a larger lounge area, and say have elevators to the various themed zones. Just partition them off the way the PH does, Dance Club 2, Bar 1, etc.
The rougher bar could have open pvp and destructible environments, the others would be restricted. That way all the guys looking for a fight can duke it out throwing tables and chairs at each other, and it wouldn't affect the other zones.

What about an elevator at the end of the hall, and choose which zone/type of club we want to go??
Or you could do what most people do when they argue with someone ina bar.
LETS TAKE THIS SH*% OUTSIDE \o/
This is quoted for truth and realism. In most bars in my area you take it outside or get banned from nearly all the clubs in my home town as they use the same security company. They are all linked by radio to so throw a punch in one club and instantly your night ends.
Or you could do what most people do when they argue with someone ina bar.
LETS TAKE THIS SH*% OUTSIDE \o/
I did that one time when I was about to log off in the Bayou Queen. I saw some guys harassing some RP'ers in there and then I found some way of taking them outside for a couple of duels. It was kinda fun for everyone cause I think they lost interest in messin' with the actors guild and got a couple of duels in and I kinda roleplay'd it so it didn't break the mood/spirit of what the cosplayers were trying to convey.
I think the only person that came out with less was me cause I really was tired that night. Oh well. It only took like 15 minutes of my time to do it, so no biggy

If they do allow duels in Caprice, then I have only one demand to add in. The rest of the people in the club should be able to jump in at will and attack either or both of the people dueling.
Since people keep wanting to talk about realism... it's a club full of super heroes. Screw security, the patrons themselves are going to stop the fight to keep it from destroying their favorite club. The duelists would quickly be subdued, and then barred from re-entering for several days.

Wow this topic got more traction then I thought it would...
but to clarify, of course my suggestion was extreme, and I did label that in the first post by stating reasons for and against it.
After reading the responses, I do agree on a couple of things. The first being that if one duels a troll then one gives them what they want, attention. However, it *does* get them to go away much faster then not. The second thing I agree with is that, a dev posting here really isn't needed. This is a discussion afterall, and it's cool to see other people coming up with different solutions.
Though I admit the abuse factor might be a problem. In fact, it's the only real problem with it. Oh to have a masterpiece society in-game... but anyway, there has to be another solution besides ignoring. As I've seen trolls sometimes go for hours. And not everyone has the patience of a patron saint. ((In caprice, I always tough it out, but in Sherrs, nah.))
If they implement this it would improve club caprice ALOT,no more "unkillable" and "invincible" lvl 10s around. We can just force them out of Caprice!

If there had not been a pattern of duel griefing the RPers in Caprice the removal of dueling would likely never have occurred.

I would not waste a single second of dev time on this horse***t.
Are the open world and hero games arenas not enough for duellists?
If somebody did want a duel with someone else in Caprice perhaps they could give the immortal line...

TAKE IT OUTSIDE!

This is quoted for truth and realism. In most bars in my area you take it outside or get banned from nearly all the clubs in my home town as they use the same security company. They are all linked by radio to so throw a punch in one club and instantly your night ends.

Since people keep wanting to talk about realism... it's a club full of super heroes. Screw security, the patrons themselves are going to stop the fight to keep it from destroying their favorite club. The duelists would quickly be subdued, and then barred from re-entering for several days.
Champions Online: Be the hero you wish you could be in a better game.
I'd just make an Alert for that kind of thing.

Duels ARE allowed in Caprice:
Professor Insano: "I shoot you with my Imbued Force Cascade for 20,000 damage, killing you instantly !"
Mistress Liberty: "Nuh Uh, I had my Masterful dodge up, and Con SS. So I use my Dragon's Claw attack to eviscerate you !"
Professor Insano: "No way !! I totally knocked you out of lunge range and then used Ascension to kite away. Now Ima hit you with another FC. Youre totally dead."
Mistress Liberty: "Nuh Uh, Im the daughter of the Dark Lord of the Abyss and a Fallen Angel, with the powers of ultimate healing and damnation....And Ive got boobies, wanna see ?"
Professor Insano: "Duh, course I wanna see boobies."
Mistress Liberty: "You gotta let me win first..."
Professor Insano: "You a real girl ?"
Mistress Liberty: "Course I am...why would I lie."
Professor Insano: "Ack, I fall defeated by your demonic fallen angel vampire powers...now can I see boobies ?"
Mistress Liberty: "Loser !!!!! Noob !!!! I win, I win, I win !!!!!"
Professor Insano: "Does this mean no boobies ? 'sniffle'..."
'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
Astralcommander: "Hahaha! I laugh at that scenario as it is so true! Alas the forums cannot allow the pics-or-it-didn't-happen screenshot of said boobies. I am now sad."

Is this to what pvpers fap to? I'm confused...

but to clarify, of course my suggestion was extreme, and I did label that in the first post by stating reasons for and against it.
THAT I will support. I'd love to kill some level six "Gods".
Otherwise, you want a duel? Take it outside.
Really, it's better outside. Better to do anything outside.

Certain people who didn't make it in the public social sphere decided to get back at the world in the wrong place.
Cryptic slammed the brakes to make people happy,
so the former could no longer cause the latter to be unhappy.
Actually... that sounds like fun.
Utterly chaotic and would make role playing nearly impossible... but fun.
