Is it possible to get to level 40 through doing nothing but alerts, and how long would it usually take, also does the alerts change the higher my level is or is it just the same alerts
will i get lesser xp the higher my level is during alerts?

I would only reccomend doing this if you have a couple of 40's allready and are bored with doing the missions again or for a change of pace.
Oh and yeah ppl will not be happy with you if you go as a lvl 6-10 (maybe untill even 15) in alerts (smash mostly). Now you might say that it does not matter to you but if ppl ignore you when they notice your lvl then those things stack up and you will end up with a nice chat ban:rolleyes:. I never had this happen since I don't queue untill I have a decent lvl but it's something to consider.
The XP you gain will scale with your level. I went from 12 to 35 less than a month using only the easy smashes and nemesis missions, playing very casually (1 hour a day, perhaps 2 on a weekend) and without using any XP boost.

Even if MC can grow old very quickly, I truly enjoyed Canada, the Desert and MI (did every single mission on them, except the 40+ missions on MI with my first char).
And yes, unless you build an alt with heirloom gear and specifically tailored for DPS, it is better to stay away from smashes until 15 or so. I had to retcon my alt because I was useless in alerts at lvl 12.
Also .. since it seems that our old friend Black Fang is not more for so long online
you have maybe now to deal with a lot more failed Alerts, and in that fact i prefer
"normal" questing, and maybe just to get a 15% bonus now and then.

This is very true. The gear you use in Alerts is what makes "lowbies" so bad. Because heirloom gear scales with your level, its really good for sidekicking-like stuff.

Well there's also power choice, stat choice and player skill that factors in. Not all toons at, let's say, lvl 10 will perform equally in an alert. You need to build for alerts from lvl 6 if you want to do alerts to lvl. Going into a smash alert at lvl 7 with a randomly created toon just because you can will end up in massive FAIL and lots of HATE if ppl don't leave first:rolleyes:.
So yeah it's not that simple and I would not advise it to anyone unless:
- they are over lvl 10-15 and don't have a gimped toon (for FF)
- they have at least one lvl 40 and thus some experience
- they have built the toon with smash in mind from the get go (this implies a lot of experience and toon building knowlege)
What should not be done:
Install CO-> create a toon and once out of the tutorial queue for a smash alert. If you do this on purpouse then you are what is called a LEECHER.
you can get to 40 easy, nonstop smash alerts will get you to 40 in about 3-4 days, however you miss out on quite a bit as you do so, namely gear and perks
yeah i have done most of the missions up to level 35 because i got bored, but that was years ago, this is actually my 3rd time back in CO and i just found out about alerts at the start of last week, i actually do alright, i know what to do, the red winter is the worst though because every time i join there is no tank and we usually fail.
If you're looking to level up quickly stay away from Grab and Burst Alerts and stick to Smash Alerts. They're the onles that give XP as a reward. Also, what I do is try to take Open World Missions that are above my level, that way I don't lose progress when I get sucked into an alert.
Since you're level 35 already, the VB (Vibora Bay) crisis is good for this.
****Spoiler Alerts****
When you're close to the end of the crisis you have to go to the floating church to drain stuff from Therakiel, it has unlimited Master Villains that keep respawning, that's a good place to just attack them and wait to get into an alert. You get pretty good XP from them.

After 4 40s that way (give or take) it really gets old. Then again, it was old the first time around.
