Suggestions for Fire Build

Hi folks, I'd love to know people's opinions on a fire based build in terms of DPS and survivability.

How good is fire compared to others in PvE DPS? I want my fire build to be in Ranged Damage mode. Is that a standard, Flashfire, Fireball, Conflag with maybe a Fire Snake somewhere?

Anyone check out Fire Strike spamming with its new self damage buff?

For survivability, what suggestions do you have? High armor or dodge/avoid and what heals do you suggest. I find Bionic Shielding annoying to use in Gravitar situations because I need to target myself and she doesn't usually hit you until a while later (like when it wears off.) I'd prefer not to go with BCR w/RR just cause of the damage debuff.

Thanks all!

Yes, fire is amazing. My advice is to use aopm, but since you wanna run in ranged, Use fire form.

Fireball with the advantage + r3 conflag does more than blaze mobs.

firesnake with advantage is a GREAT debuff for bosses. and kinda situational and nifty for regular hunting.

flashfire is basically a patch of energy at the snap of the fingers. LOVE it.

Forget about fire strike. tbh, its not that great. Stick with those ^ Bionic shielding is pretty good, but since your not using bcr+adv my advice to to s-stat pre and grab a heal or two. Use conviction for a quick boost and perhaps empath healing. Those three heals together will give you more than enough time to heal, it could get clicky though. I'd also recommend mindful reinforcement or a bubble, since you will have the pre.

S-stats: Int, pre, End. Your already running fire form, your dps will be great.

There are some serious fire guru's out here So, go for that.

A tapped FB (r2 w/ adv) then conflag is your typical combo, adding flashfire as needed.

Pve wise, the damage is solid, but the drawback is you are always engaging at 50ft or less.

Infernal Supernatural backed by pest is generally more effective, but doesn't look nearly as good. I know I hate the animation, but my cursed was a nice upgrade from inferno.

Masterful dodge is a solid active defense, but you'll still need some extra hp to get the most out of it. Unbreakable can prevent damage entirely, but it can also be "popped" early and stop functioning prematurely. However, pve wise, it's suitable for many situations. MD is a staple for FF pvp because its just that effective at mitigating damage.

Thanks for the replies. I was interested in Fire Strike because it is the only 100ft Power for certain situations.

For defense, I think I will go Ego PSS and see how much Defense I can pile on. I usually go Dodge/Avoid on Heroic but maybe this time will try out Defense buffs.

In my experience (albeit maybe a bit outdated experience), fire probably has the potential for the most damage outright in the game, thanks to stacking defense debuffs from moves like Fireball + Unstable Accelerant and Fire Snake. Its problems lie in the fact that its AoE situation is comparatively tight compared to sets like Electricity (100*10 cylinder and auto-tacking AoE) and Infernal (25 foot PBAoE maintain and a solid cone). Fire's only good damage option for really exploiting the debuffs it uses is Conflagaration, which does not track like most other ranged sphere maintains. Fire patches from moves like Flashfire and Pyre can cover a lot of ground, but they don't do much damage and are mostly used for energy generation.

With all that said, it is quite possible to just build around a defensive passive + self-heal + active defense combo with concentration and let that carry itself in DPS. Taking fire-form simply ensures that things in your conflagration ring die in seconds, but watch out for those who get past that! In that case taking the advantage on Pyre can help you keep close-by enemies prone so that they don't instantly kick you up at close-quarters.

Whether you're offensive or defensive passive (or something else), I'd highly recommend Endurance as a secondary (Trust me, Flame Reverberation will return enough with just that, and primary endurance provides more than enough energy for any build, except possibly power armor) and Ego as the primary. Ego's specializations which help boost critical chance and energy efficiency very nicely, and on a defense-based build, could probably make for some fairly nasty damage output. Depending on what kind of defense you're looking for, the third superstat could either be Con (more passive survivability and buffer-space with that health) or Pre (Very nice if you build around moves like Conviction R3, and forcefields like Protection Field and Mindful Reinforcement.)

Heatwave is a nice power and has a very useful debuff advantage, engulfing flames. It also has a minor hold which can be useful on tougher mobs which take time to die. On bosses the debuff is very handy. I play a support/fire toon, who can do considerable dps and yet is still good enough as a healer.
