Its better on all fronts then my desktop , only thing im not sure about is the compare between your videocard and mine. (got a ati 5770 1gb)

So it should have No problem running CO on medium to high settings.

edit: your CPU is slower i see now, that might cause longer loading times but I still use a Dcore 2.8ghz and the I7 is far more efficient then the old D cores.

You can always play the demo. and in case you just wana showoff your shiny new toy you made me a bit jealous.

It will run all right, so long as you don't mind turning down graphical settings. The video card is a little below the recommended system requirements, and well above the minimum. The processor is perhaps a little above the recommended system requirements.

The video card is a couple of years old. The "v" in the name means it's a rebranded older card. AMD says that companies like Dell asked them to do that, presumably so that they could keep selling old tech without customers knowing that it's old tech.

In a desktop, you could probably get substantially better performance from an $80 processor and an $80 video card. In a laptop, you pay a huge premium for the reduced power consumption so that it doesn't release too much heat in too small of a space and melt or burn. Gaming laptops make sense for a handful of people who travel a lot and want to play games on the road, but I hope this isn't going to be your primary gaming machine unless you're not much of a gamer.

Next time, the amount of memory you get should be a power of 2 times your number of memory channels. You got 6 GB with two memory channels, and 3 is not a power of 2. That will kill your memory bandwidth, but I'm not sure if the CPU is fast enough for that to matter.

I'm a graphic designer and on the move a fair bit so need a laptop rather than desktop

I play consoles more than PC

my last laptop was a dell xpsm1530 from two years ago and that played CO okish
So I think this one will be mnuch better but obviously not amazing!

hmmm confused by some stuff you said but I get your points

You should have gotten 4 GB rather than 6 GB in the first place, unless you run some extremely memory intensive programs (which games are not). As it is, Dell is sending you one 2 GB module and one 4 GB module, so you'd have to buy a new module of either size if you want to pair them like all processor, motherboard, and memory manufacturers say that you should.

The drawback to mismatched memory modules is that your system will be unable to take advantage of some optimizations designed to improve memory performance. That means your system will be slower than it should have been. It likely won't be a large difference, and in many programs, possibly not even measurable. I don't think it's worth trying to fix now. It's just something to keep in mind the next time you buy a computer.

A quick analogy: suppose there are two lanes of a road going in the same direction, and a fair amount of traffic. If you want cars to get where they are going as quickly as possible, do you put half of the cars in each lane, or 2/3 in one lane and 1/3 in the other? Your system effectively does the latter, and I don't think that's the only dual channel optimization that it breaks. But if there's little enough traffic, you could leave one lane completely empty and it wouldn't particularly matter.

Companies like Dell do this because they figure that end users won't know the difference in performance, but will think that 6 GB is better than 4 GB and buy it. There are a number of other goofy things that they do, too, though in a laptop, building your own and doing it right isn't a real option.
