CHAMPIONS VILLAINS Sneak Peek: The Triptych Cover!

Howdy folx!

As some of you know, I'm currently writing Champions Villains -- a trilogy of books detailing the villains of the Champions Universe. Together all three books -- Volume 1 (Master Villains), Volume 2 (Villain Teams), and Volume 3 (Solo Villains) -- will feature over 300 supervillains!

To grace the covers of this fine series of books, we've gotten a superb triptych illustration from the Fraim Brothers, which I thought you'd enjoy seeing. The left third is for Volume 1, the middle third for Volume 2, and the right third for Volume 3. That way when you lay the books side-by-side on the table it forms one continuous tapestry of villainy!

    Everyone is flying... even that wolfish thing in the back. Flying will be the fotm soon enough :)

    Unfortunately there's only so much foreground room in which the artists could've put runners. Easier to assume the background guys, if not native flyers (such as Fenris, the character you mention) are leaping or something. ;)

    Someone needs to make Whos-Who of this picture. with lil' numbers and nameslist.

    Armadillo looks like Grond just stomped on him. :D

    It looks like VIPER was only able to spare generic Redshirt #5 :)

    I don't forsee him doing too well when Grond catches up with the rest of the group :D

    Where is Menton in that pic?

    Oh yeah....These guys, all of them...they need to be ingame....Now :D

    The lizardly guy in the back right is Leviathan, a renegade Lemurian throwback.

    Re: Menton, he's not depicted. We use a different appearance for him in the PnP RPG, so it's possible that he's the guy in the business suit on the left "under" Dr. Destroyer's legs. However, I actually think that's supposed to be Franklin Stone (who's sort of the "Lex Luthor" of the CU).

    We are in fact considering doing one of those National Geographic style "grey silhouettes" of the illo with each villain numbered and identified. ;)

    Hmmm, thats a fun project, I might have to print it out and see if I can do that.

    I'd really like to see Anklyosaur in the game. I saw some concept art for him drawn up, but I guess he never made it. Maybe we'll see him when we get more dino-related content ;)

    Also, that version of Dr. D is awesome.

    Hehe I recognize a lot of faces on that cover, but many more are still unkown to me. Hopefully CO will expand with more of these interesting personalities showing up soon.

    I love that artwork.

    Mind Slayer in front, center, and lookin' great...this is a fantastic bonus since she's my fav character in the Champs IP.

    If the interior artwork of the books are that quality; I'll be grabbing a copy.

    Now if you'll excuse me, I have to setup my new desktop wallpaper.

    I liked 3rd edition Mechanon better, but if this is how Mechanon looks, I'll be satisfied with it.
    I hope to see multiple versions of Mechanon in game, including ultimately, the Mechanon that's a city and a small moon, "That's no moon..."

    Plus there's Installation Alpha-8, which is Mechanon's space station that orbits the moon!

    He could be a Japanophile kind of like Sodom or Rufus from Street Fighter. An American looking ridiculous trying to act Asian but still kicks **** while doing it.

    His name's Cheshire Cat; he's a member of the group GRAB. He's actually one of the oldest villains in the CU; he's been around since one of the earliest supplements from 1981 or '82.

    Relating to villains (one in particular). I posted the following in the "game bugs" thread, but I wanted to check with the PnP gurus here as well on this.

    Regarding the mission Psidwinder (think that's the name of it). The mission in Canada where you fight mind-controlled VIPER agents and eventually fight Mind Slayer.

    In the mission; Mind Slayer looked to be at least 6'6'' or so. The guy I teamed with in this mission was using a character that is 6'7" (scaled and built the character myself) and she was as tall as he is. She also looked different than I remember her looking in Stronghold Prison (hairstyle, outfit coloration, etc.)

    The character I was using was Emerald, who is around 5'6" tall, and Mind Slayer towered over her.

    Is Mind Slayer supposed to be that tall, or did a developer slip some growth potion into her psycho brownies?

    Listing this just in case there was an oops.

    With that posted; just how tall is Mind Slayer supposed to be? Is she a really tall amazon woman, or is she supposed to be average height more or less?

    I love the pic...I hope that's what we see coming at us on the last day of the Anniversary event :D

    No Ripper? He was a fave of my PnP group back in the day. So fun to see him in the game, although I liked his original art better and they really should have kept him at Stronghold.

    There's no Ripper because he doesn't appear in these three books. He's a member of VIPER's Dragon Branch, so he'll appear in the VIPER supplement, when we get around to revamping it for 6E.
