One Bad Mother

I'm trying to do the One Bad Mother mission on Monster Island, but I don't understand what the umbilical cord is or how I'm supposed to infect it. Can anyone help, please?

    Go to the big Qulaar ship, kill the guys around the base of it, disable the beams pointed at it, infect the umbilical cords directly underneath it.

    For some reason, the umbilical cords weren't showing up the first time I tried. I did it again this time and it worked just fine. Thanks.
