Unable to see chat

Unless people are on my friends list, I am unable to see other's chat. I was told I am ignoring people who tried to send me tells even though my ignore list is empty.

    Try checking your privacy options in the social/search menu (default key o) the small dropdown on the bottom left.

    If you have a checkmark in "Whitelist chat" try clearing it. Having any of those Whitelist options enabled means that you are only able to be contacted by people on your Friends list. With "Whitelist tells" anyone not on your Friends list will get the message that they're being ignored if they try to send tells to you, despite them not being on your Ignore list.
