Casual Hybrid PA DPS for Alerts

I'm working on a durable DPS PA for alerts. Nothing terribly geared, just merc, so focusing on energy conservation/recovery and maximizing sustain on alert bosses. This is what I've put together:

    Yea, I like the 2nd version of the build a bit better; I'd prob base your final build off of that one. You don't strictly need Shoulder Launcher and Hand Cannon if you already have other attacks for those slots, but they are okay to keep for opener/burst dmg against mobs. If energy is fine w/ Power Conversion, then you could consider getting Con SS, to get more mileage from the defensive passive and Resurgence. Conversely, if energy is more of an issue, then you could put ranks into Power Conversion. You may also want to consider a threat wipe and/or self-res (prob instead of a R1 AO like LNL). It'd also be nice to get R2 of Minigun (and maybe R3 of Recon Circuits), but you'd also have to take ranks out from other sources for it. If you needed more free adv points, you could get them from the trading out the special adv on the block, ranks from your lesser-used travel power, and/or R3 from Hand Cannon and Shoulder Launcher (I'd prob de-rank Hand Cannon first of the two, since its AoE reach is smaller than Shoulder Launcher's).

    Also, assuming Ego is your main stat here, then you'll want to get 3/3 in Follow Through for Ego PSS (and 2/3 in 6th Sense).

    Yea, the edits seem to be okay. Jaaz's build is a nice alternative, though it's playstyle is also a bit different in places. If you wanted a dual-passive option w/o many other changes to your current build, then you could swap the threat wipe for R3 Invuln, and free up 4 adv points from elsewhere for it. It's up to you on whether you want to take the build in that direction, though.

    Well, with Invuln as your passive you won't actually be a durable DPS, you'll be a tank doing tank or hybrid level damage. You won't be doing really strong DPS damage. It's all good if you are OK with this.

    The nice thing about a dual passive build (especially if you have one pice of primary offense gear that is set for DPS and another, with more Con, that is for defense and you can swap builds) is that you can be pretty tough when you need to be (e.g. soloing the QWZ) or do mega damage when that option is available, like when a real tank is taking the heat off of you, like say at a cosmic. The beauty is that your character can look the same, no matter which build you use.

    Well, you may still want Power Conversion to help w/ energy. Assuming you're not getting a Support's AoPM_AoAC buff in Alerts as often, then it can be good to have as a backup. Energy management is pretty dependent on gear/stats, though, so it'd be worth testing in the PTS and/or PH to get a good sense of it overall, regardless. Also, if you're not taking Con SS, then I may rank up the block a bit.

    What if I replace Reconstruction Circuits with Power Conversion then rank my block to 2? I've lived most of my chars lives on resurgance

    Well, you may want to check to make sure that you'd actually need Power Conversion w/ your current setup anyways. My guess is that you would, but you'd need to test it yourself to know for certain. Although Recon Circuits is nice for slotted PA, you could potentially get by w/ Resurgence and health packs, sure- that's all down to your own experiences to determine. Another general option is just dropping Hand Cannon to make room, since it's not as likely to hit >1 target w/ its narrow cylinder vs. Shoulder Launcher, but the choice is yours to make, regardless.

    Is there a reason you think you want 2 hand and 2 shoulder powers? Are you imagining that they will fulfill different roles? If it were me, I'd drop at least one of those duplicates, take Power Conversion instead and take the block to R3. In my build I took Implosion Engine as an opening move to help clump targets closer together. Orbital Cannon can also be handy. I have one character who throws IE in first, then OC, then goes for his regular attacks.

    That's looking more solid. You might make Shoulder Launcher your last pick and experiment with IE or OC. One reason I sometimes like OC (w/ Anvil adv.) is that you can start it at long range and just as it hits you can activate your 3 PA powers. It's kind of like having 4 attacks at once. Putting Sonic Device up before turning on IE or OC adds a nice little stun. So many options.

    Ok so further playtesting im going hard in alerts and loving it but im wondering if there's room to put Con as an SS without losing toooo much energy management?

    Something like:

    Well, since you kept Power Conversion, it shouldn't be too bad to swap in Con SS. I may switch Rec SS for End SS (and still talent for some Rec), so you have a somewhat larger energy tank w/ Power Conversion, and cause Overdrive scales more w/ End than w/ Rec. And yea, much of it will just come down to gear.

    Should I add a con rank 7 or will I be fine without it? So far im rocking mostly Ego 7's with an End 7 and a Rec 7 and a clarence 5 as well as a few lucky gems and impact gems in appropriate places. I have another end 7 in my bank if it's better just to grab another end 7...

    In my expereince with my fully kitted out build above I find that most enemies melt very fast. The only times I feel a need to switch to the tank build is against Worms who have both AoRP and the AoE healing (hard to always melt them fast enough), and when the enemy is a bit spread out has and spams lots of knocks (e.g. destroids in the QWZ). Not really sure if swapping to Con will be all that much a help. An alterntaive is to just keep a bunch of heal patches on you. Most of the time you should be able to surive most any short encounter by popping Resurgence and a heal patch. Much of it, as in all things, is you becoming more familiar with the build and the enemy's tractics.

    These talent changes are going to be pretty minor overall, but here's how I'd prob configure them w/ that SS setup:

    Level 15: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)

    For the gear, I'd prob trade out the Rec mod atm and see how your energy is. If it's good then you could take more Con and/or more Ego, and if not then add another End mod and see how that works out (could also potentially add more cost discount rating). If you find that you don't need the extra Con, but also don't need more in energy stats, then you could swap Con SS out for Dex SS to have a bit more crit, bit it's up to you on how you want to fine-tune the build. Hope it works well for you, regardless.

    As you're juggling energy manangement options, you could consider replacing Energy Shield with Force Shield and taking the Force Sheathe advantage. Tap block before turning on your toggles, and enemy fire feeds you energy for 8 seconds. Blocking organically during a fight reactivates the effect. Power Conversion is handy before a fight; but it's a pain to re-up during combat, since you need to wait a couple seconds after deactivating your toggles for the lockout to end.

    I usually recommend a Rank 3 ground travel power, to keep up with your teammates. Jet Boots and Rocket Jump might fall behind on indoor maps (Jet Boots does well with Swift Wings mods, but I assume you aren't running those).

    If you decide you want to venture beyond alerts and into some endgame team content, I'd recommend squeezing a threat wipe into the build.

    I tried the endurance route and it didn't work out so I went back to Ego/Rec/Con, put a rec 7 back into the end 7's spot and I have zero energy issues though I'm thinking of replacing the other end 7 with an Ego 7 for more damage and testing the end management then. I only need power conversion once in a blue moon but its really good to have for hairy situations!

    You can't use a defensive passive like Invuln in a DPS role, though this looks like a dual passive build, so I assume you'll be swapping roles/passives as you see fit. Otherwise, the build looks mostly okay. If you are fine on energy later on, then you can opt to drop Power Conversion (for a different power) and/or Rec SS (for Dex SS and its crit boost, or for Con SS if you want more maxHP). Conversely, if you need more energy earlier on then you can train Power Conversion earlier and/or maybe rank it up, but it's up to you.

    I can say in the end I went Ego/Rec/End and used a Con mod, and an HP mod along with dual passive targeting comp and invuln to cover my basis. Sorry for not updating.
