SWTOR Powertech inspired build

nafeariannafearian Posts: 48 Arc User
Hello,

I'm looking to work on a character heavily inspired by the swtor powertech bounty hunter. Basically lots of missiles and blasts - I've tried to keep mostly towards efficiency over theme here with most powers with a few exceptions (not planning to include any maintained laser powers). Not sure what I should do with last power slot, maybe something like binding shot for a little theme and functionality?

Here's the current build:

Super Stats
Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

Talents
Level 1: Sureshot (Dex: 12, Int: 12)
Level 6: Investigator (Int: 5, End: 5)
Level 9: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
Level 12: Coordinated (Dex: 5, Int: 5)
Level 15: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
Level 18: Agile (Dex: 8)
Level 21: Brilliant (Int: 8)

Powers
Level 1: Steady Shot
Level 1: Concentration
Level 6: Implosion Engine (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Targeting Computer (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Overdrive
Level 14: Energy Shield (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Micro Munitions (Rank 2, Alpha Strike)
Level 23: Shoulder Launcher (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 26: Hand Cannon (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Unbreakable (Rank 2)
Level 32: Lock N Load
Level 35: Chest Beam
Level 38:
Adv. Points: 30/36

Travel Powers
Level 6: Jet Boots
Level 35: Phase Out

Specializations
Intelligence: Preparation (2/2)
Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (3/3)
Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: Initiative (2/2)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (2/3)
Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
Avenger: Ruthless (2/2)
Avenger: Anguish (2/2)
Avenger: Round 'em Up (3/3)
Avenger: Relentless Assault (3/3)
Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

I'm a little confused with the spec trees for what counts as a blast/maintain from the PA tree. Neither the relentless assault nor Preemptive strike advantages seem to proc from any of the powers I have currently in the build.
Any suggestions for improvements would be much appreciated!

Toggles (like PA's slotted ones) are not that same as Maintains, so they will not count for Avenger's Relentless Assault (even changing Sparkstorm into a toggle via its 3-pt adv will cause it to stop procing Relentless Assault). You don't have any Blasts in the build either (PA's blasts are Tac Missiles and Power Gauntlet, but they are pretty low dps, and are non-slotted attacks besides). I'd prob just get Guardian as the 2nd spec instead. R1 Chest Beam and LNL aren't adding that much either, imo. Chest Beam can debuff, but it being a non-slotted attack is a problem for a slotted PA build. A slotted attack that can put up Burn Through (like Mini Gun w/ adv) would be more practical, if you still want that debuff. The Ult not being a slotted attack is not as much of an issue due to its longer cd, but you could consider Fire All Weapons for wide AoE as well. Also, if you are struggling w/ energy overall, then you could consider getting Power Conversion.

I'd prob switch Unbreakable for Resurgence (or maybe Indestructible, if you just want a mitigation cd). Also, Conviction won't be available while using any of the slotted toggles, so you may want to switch to Recon Circuits (BCR or Endorphin Rush could also work; you'd still have to activate either of them in-between the toggles, but at least they can run in the background). You may also want to consider a threat wipe and/or a self-res, as 3-slot PA can draw a lot of aggro w/ its very high dmg potential.

Here's something similar that I use. Can solo QWZ and does well at Cosmics. Sub in PA toggles of your choice.

Thank you both for the advice on this one!
It's a shame that the PA toggle powers don't count for the maintain/blast specs in the trees, would be nice to see a more PA focused tree in the future maybe - went guardicator as suggested. I've heard a lot of people mention that offence/defense stacking is very inefficient at the moment, however lots of people still seem to spec towards it in their trees, it is not as bad as people make out?
I decided to keep Implosion engine mainly because I'm already able to put out a lot of aoe dmg so the grouping pull effect + dmg over time is more useful for me here I think.
Dropped LNL but in the end kept chest beam for the tap debuff, I tried running minigun but found it awkward juggling multiple powers operating from the same slot (also doesn't fit too well with the theme  ).
Grabbed resurge instead of unbreakable which was definitely a good call, still struggling to find a good heal that fits though. BCR's 10% dmg axe made it a sub-optimal choice for me and endorphin rush seemed to have poorly optimized scaling with con and rec for this build. I've tried using reconstructive circuits in the past on my other PA character and I'm not a huge fan, the heal would have to be at least 50% more powerful to justify sacrificing the chest slot power imo. Using bionic shielding for now but I'm going to leave it near the top in case I decide to change it out later.
Still a little unsure for the last power but I've taken power conversion for now. I'm not having terrible energy issues but it will probably be helpful especially until I can get better gear as I still have quest items on atm ^^.

Personally, I'd drop Evasive Maneuvers and take Reoncstruction Circuits. Toggle it on when you need some healing, then toggle on the other chest power back when you are topped up. If you want to be more durable at times I'd drop Bionic Shielding and take Invulnerability as an alternate build Passive. One of my PA builds runs that way.

Note that PA is considered one of the most overpowered power sets at the moment. We are certainly not going to see any changes that make it more effective (unless the Devs mess up). If anything, we're much more likely to see a nerf to PA. It's easier to nerf one power set than to beef up the others to the level of PA.
