Help with Beastial supernatural Tank

xoezxoez Posts: 21 Arc User
As the title says. I can't really find anything that fits what I'm looking for. I'm currently using the build below but it just doesn't feel good and I would really like to drop Lacerating Cyclone as it doesn't fit the theme of the character at all.
The character theme is a Snake like super that uses poisoned claws and Bite.
This is the current build which is only vaguely on theme and from like 2018 so probably not really up to date.

Freeform (Tank)

Please if there is any way to make this more poison focused and if I can drop Lacerating Cyclone all together that would be great!.

Before taking a crack at a rebuild, here's a few questions to get a better idea of your goals:
    • What sort of content do you want to run? Are you sticking to alerts and missions, or do you plan to tank endgame content like Cosmics?
    • Do you want to keep Regeneration for theme, or are you open to other defensive passives?
    • Do you have Imaginary Weapons for Single Blade?
    • Does Venomous Breath fit your snake theme?
  • xoezxoez Posts: 21 Arc User
Well It's just my wife and I playing so I have no asperations for the big endgame content.
I don't need regen but without an actual healer it felt like a good option but I wont say no to other options
I do not have imaginary weapons no. I don't even know where I would get that.
Finally yes I was looking at Venomous breath as there are spitting cobras which fit the snake theme quite well.

Imaginary weapon skins are from the Foxbat event, iirc. Anyways, Bestial has only a few abilities that deal w/ poison. Venomous Breath is one of them, though it is a general SN power that's also in Infenral. Frenzy has a poison adv, but it's somewhat redundant w/ Venom Breath as an AoE. Bite also has a poison adv, but it's not as strong of an attack for dmg and would be more for utility (depending on the advs you took). Thrash also has its Fester adv, though that's more for lowering enemy dmg, and you'd have to get some other source of poison for it (prob not efficient over just getting more dmg and healing from it via R3).

It's pretty easy to replace Lacerating Cyclone w/ something like Venomous Breath or Frenzy w/ poison adv, but are there any other powers you'd rather replace? I'd prob pass on Planar Vortex, unless you really wanted it for the theme (seems to be kind of a weird pick here). Eviscerate would be nice if keeping Thrash, since Thrash can't proc AotB on its own, and taps of Evis w/ Messy adv can refresh both bleeds and Shredded. R1 Masterful Dodge also isn't worth taking here, since AD's share the same long cd now, and R1 MD doesn't put you past 100% dodge anymore. Maybe get Endorphin Rush instead, since it's a decent self-heal that can scale w/ Con (and Rec). Here's a simple example edit of it:

Honestly I'm open to trading out what ever at this point. I'm not very good at theory crafting in this game specially when it comes to tanks So I'm open to what ever suggestions the big brains have for me. The only thing I want is to stick to the theme. Also I forgot to replace infernal bolt with the Beastial energy builder in my first post but what ever.
Thanks For the help guys. You guys are the best!

Okay, well the build edit that I did is what I'd suggest if you mostly wanted to keep the old build (since the basis of it is pretty solid). If you wanted more drastic changes, then we'd prob need to know if there are any powers in particular from Bestial (or any set) that you really wanted to use, if there are any other powers that you tried but didn't like, and/or just more info on your theme.

What you suggested feels LOADS better then what I had going on. Thanks again!

Okay, well I didn't make too many changes to your build, but I suppose replacing the main AoE is notable in its own right if you're doing more casual content. Hope the build continues to serve you well, either way 8)

Flow covered the options well. Here's an alternate (but very similar) setup designed as a level 40 retcon, using Sentinel Mastery with the stuns from Venomous Breath:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Tank)
    v3.44:37

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Strength (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Devastator (Str: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Paramilitary Training (Str: 3, Con: 3, Rec: 3, End: 3)
Level 9: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Relentless (Str: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 15: Bodybuilder (Str: 5, End: 5)
Level 18: Physical Conditioning (Str: 5, Con: 5)
Level 21: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Bestial Fury
Level 1: Shred (Rank 2, Penetrating Strikes, Challenge!)
Level 6: Aspect of the Bestial
    Level 8: Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 11: Supernatural Power
Level 14: Venomous Breath (Paralytic Bile, Challenge!)
    Level 17: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 20: Thrash (Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenge!)
    Level 23: Eviscerate (Messy)
    Level 26: Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Frenzy (Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenge!)
    Level 32: Unstoppable (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:
    Level 38:
    Adv. Points: 36/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6: Athletics (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Strength: Swole (2/3)
    Strength: Physical Peak (3/3)
    Strength: Brutality (2/2)
    Strength: Juggernaut (3/3)
    Protector: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Protector: Unrelenting (1/2)
    Protector: Bulwark (2/2)
    Protector: Debilitating Challenge (2/2)
    Protector: Resolute (2/3)
    Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Moment of Need (3/3)
    Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
    Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

    Devices

Against mobs, Venomous Breath to spread Challenge and Sentinel Mastery, then close in to use Frenzy for better damage and bleeds. Reapply Venomous Breath for Sentinel Mastery as needed. You could opt for the poison advantage on Frenzy for theme.

Against a boss, lead with Shred for the Shredded debuff and bleeds. Thrash as your main attack, with Eviscerate to keep up Shredded, bleeds, and your toggle form. Weave in a Venomous Breath tap for Sentinel Mastery, if you or your partner need a healing boost.

I added a dual-passive, as going full tank can feel like defensive overkill for a lot of content. You could run with an offensive passive in Hybrid role for extra damage and a Thrash healing bonus, then flip to a defensive passive if you're getting overwhelmed. Bulwark from the Protector tree helps maintain high threat in Hybrid role. I chose Invulnerability as the defensive passive in this setup, since there's Sentinel Mastery for extra healing. I'd stick with Regeneration if you're still leveling.

I always recommend a Rank 3 ground travel power, for convenience.

Last two powers are open. You could bring back the lunge or self-rez, if you liked those from your original build.

Hmm. This one is really nice too. I like the idea of duel passives. It's not like I'll need to be tanky all the time. I may move some of the powers around and make this a leveling build. Thank you sir :)
