Martial Arts/Darkness

So, I've spent some time trying to come up with a good build for this combo.
If I take only MA attacks with the ghostly advantage would the dark passive work well in combination to some actual life drain and dark powers?
I haven't really come up with a workable build as I've mostly tried to understand which powers actually would work together and with which super stats to pick based on that.

Thanks in advance for input. Especially Flow, if/when you respond, I haven't said thank you enough over the last 9ish years!

Well, the problem w/ Shadow Form is that it won't boost the Crushing dmg portion that is still on Unarmed's attacks, even w/ the Ghostly/Spectral advs taken. You could still use Shadow Form and prob do fine, but it may not be ideal for Unarmed. Night Warrior would boost all dmg types, though, and I guess you could still use Spirit Reverb if you put up Fear for the Unarmed stuff (many options available to do that with).

Aside from I guess Lifedrain, are there any other attacks in particular that you wanted to use from either set? Cause there's many ways to mix them.

One of the reasons I wanted to make a dark form MA build is the chance for life drain on every hit, and the minor stealthiness, and also thematic.
Would FoTM and chi manipulation work with that?

Well, you can get proper stealth via NW's Sneak, but I hear ya. You can use Shadow Form here just fine if you really want to. FotM and Chi Manip could work as well, although Darkness powers won't proc them innately. SReverb could be made to work w/ powers from both sets, and FotTempest can work w/ any attack (as long as you have something like Rush to help w/ energy).

I'm still not really clear on what other attacks you'd want for it, but here's an example build, for reference:

(Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Melee Damage)
    v3.44:36

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Dexterity (Primary)
    Level 10: Recovery (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Chiller (Dex: 10, Con: 10, Rec: 8, End: 10)
    Level 6: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 9: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
Level 12: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 15: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
    Level 18: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
Level 21: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Shadow Bolt
    Level 1: Shadow Blast (Devoid)
Level 6: Shadow Form (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Form of the Tempest
    Level 11: Spirit Reverberation
Level 14: Dragon Kick (Spectral Dragon Tail, Dragon Rush)
    Level 17: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 20: Burning Chi Fist (Rank 2, Rank 3, Ghostly Strikes)
Level 23: Void Shift (Emerging Nightmares)
Level 26: Dimensional Collapse (Glimpse of the Abyss, Lingering Darkness)
Level 29: Lifedrain (Rank 2, Vampiric Sympathy)
Level 32: Ebon Void (Rank 2)
    Level 35:
    Level 38:
    Adv. Points: 29/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Dexterity: Combat Training (2/3)
    Dexterity: Gear Utilization (3/3)
    Dexterity: Deadly Aim (3/3)
    Dexterity: Expose Weakness (2/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Elusive (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Dexterity Mastery (1/1)

The last 2 powers can be w/e ya want.

For single-target dps, it puts up Devoid (and Fear) initially w/ charged SBlast, then uses charged BCF as its main filler attack, while charged DK can give you Rush for extra energy, and DCollapse can refresh both Devoid and Fear. Charged DK and DCollapse can also be used for AoE. Gears mostly for Dex, w/ some Con and Rec (and some cost discount on gear).

    This is my Martial/Dark fighter.

At range, he uses Shadow Embrace to stay healed up while building up Enrage, then uses Thundering Kicks to inflict demolish and Void Shift to inflict fear, then just slam them with BCF, refreshing demolish and knock with Inexorable Tides.

He can also off-heal with Void Shifted Lifedrain.

So the character this build is for isn't 40 just yet, currently 37, and using armadillo primary gear and samurai secondary, mostly cause thats what I had on hand, would heirloom sets be better?

My current build could certainly use work, I didn't list talents cause I probably didn't pick any I should have.

Well, that build is more of an Unarmed build w/ a few Darkness supporting powers, but w/ no Darkness attacks (I figured that you wanted some, but it is your choice ultimately). It can work as is, even if it's a bit sub-optimal compared to a normal Unarmed build. The build doesn't have an Active Defense atm, though (you'll prob want R1-2 Resurgence). R1 Shadow Shroud is also not adding much to it. I may also consider getting R3 in the block instead of the VD adv (or maybe just have it at R2 and save 2-3 adv points for elsewhere).

Afaik, the heirloom sets are similar to the armadillo and samurai sets, but w/ different set bonuses. None of those scaling sets have useful extra stats like cost discount or crit severity, and they also will gear more for your primary SS (Str), even though it's better to focus on Dex here. I'd upgrade to high-level normal gear whenever it's available (w/ some good mods/stats), or maybe at least get a utility piece w/ good cost discount rating on it to help w/ energy a bit more. I would also prob take Brutality in Str PSS (instead of either Juggernaut or Overpower, depending on which you value more). You'll have to also fill out Vindicator spec (prob getting Focused Strikes), get Str Mastery at max lvl, and yea fill out the Talents (for your SSs + maybe some Rec to help w/ resting energy).
