Telepathy Builds (DPS, CC/Healer)

Hello! I'm new to the game and have been searching for all sorts of mentalist builds (which are by far my favorite) and noticed that Telepathy is not much used as a DPS build. Based on what o seen in other discussions, i have some questions.
1) Is there any reason to why most DPS builds set their primary stat as Pre? Wouldn't be better to use Dex instead to maximize TP DoT damage?
2) Is the damage output of ego blast worthy enough (w/ TP reverb + mind opener) for the build, or is it better to build around Mind Breaker + Stats?
3) Considering how much time it takes to debuffs to proc, is it worthy to get mental discipline?
4) Is there any viable way to use telekinesis (power) with a tp build? (Solely for thematic reasons)
Any help on how to properly build this TP DPS would be appreciated.

TP is a viable dps powerset, but it's a pretty one-trick pony.

1/ Pre as PSS is pretty rare for dps, although it can work. (Specifically, stack secondary SS, not Pre, for the crit chance bonus - Pre PSS with stacked Dex secondary has the highest possible crit chance). I can't remember what i did for my TP DPS offhand.

    2/ Build around ego blast.

3/ Honestly, i can't remember what mental discipline is offhand, and can't find it quickly on herocreator. If you mean Mental Storm, you don't have to charge it for the debuff or DoT, only for paralyze duration (which, since you're using it for the other things, is irrelevant). Mental Storm is definitely worth it for boss fights.

4/ TK and TP both deal ego damage, and thus work super well together. (Indeed, if you're building a TP dps, you're going to want to look outside of TP for your AoE power, probably. TK, Darkness, and Sorcery are all viable places to look)

Sorry, in number 3 i meant mental precision. It's a toggle that gives more ranged damage everytime you apply some specific debuff (dependency, ego leech, stress or despondancy) and scales with dex. Mental discipline is basically the melee version of it. I've seen almost all builds around use it, but i do not manage to proc it in standard situations.
I'll search for AoE outside TP to try for my build then, thank you!

Keeping in mind that your main stat doesn't have to be your PSS stat, Pres PSS is a decent option for TP just cause it can pretty easily apply the Vulnerability debuff that's in Pres' PSS tree (like via Ego Sleep and Mental Storm). Taking Dex or Ego PSS is okay too, but it's ultimately up to you. Aside from the PSS choice itself, TP builds have a variety of toggle/form (and thus, stat focus) options: Pres via Darkness' Shadow Manifestation, Dex via TK's Mental Precision, or Int_Pres via Manipulator (if you take enough CC powers). A Dex focus will give you higher personal dps, a Pres focus will boost healing and CC a good bit, while the Manip options will greatly boost CC strength via the toggle/form itself (but for less of a dmg boost from the toggle/form).

As far as procing toggle/forms like Mental Discipline or Shadow Manifest- for TP you just have to keep using some of its DoT powers and tapping Sleep with its Fear adv (since Fear counts as a Mental State too), as Ego Blast alone can't proc those toggles (if taking a TK AoE for theme, like TK Burst, then Ego Leech should help proc it there).

Thank you very much for the reply! I thought that PSS was necessarily the main stat, due to yhe spec it gives, but now that i read it better most of spec trees associate with generic stats (such as critical severity, healing power or makes secondary stats increase some aspext as well). Having this in mind and your advices, i've tried building something up. Do you guys think it is possible in anyway to adapt telekinesis (power, not the mentalist powerset) to this build? Or to do so i'd have to do something ego-related?

Yea, as a dps build, your toggle/form should be what dictates your main stat, and not your PSS choice. Ofc, your PSS can also happen to be your main stat, but the PSS is tree is more about choosing the options w/in it that will suit your goals for the build. As long as your main stat is still an SS'd one (2ndary or primary), then you're generally gtg.

And yea, if you mean the power TK, and not the powerset, then you can simply just throw that in there if you want for the theme, though you'll have to drop something for it (maybe R1 Empathic Healing). The build looks pretty good overall, though you may want to consider the MM adv on Ego Storm.

I'm sorry for changing the name of the topic (i've opened it to know specifically about TP DPS), but i've been searching for TP CC/Healer builds and could not find much information on it. Could anyone help me to make a viable CC build with the mentalist theme? All i know is that it's necessary to get the CC's (ego sleep and ego storm; how useful is it to have placate and psychic vortex?), but i have no ideia of which passive, which heals i should get and other skills as well. Any thoughts on the subject?

For a Heal/CC hybrid you could go with this one.... it is a nightmare to level up.
Non-existant DPS, but good control and healing strength.

You could go also AoAC or Seraphim for passives:
-AoAC is useful and "rare" enough that in group content will provide an added beenfit.
-Seraphim boosts your healing if you wish to heal more.

Note that w/ healer builds you don't necc have to level w/ them, as you could just level as a dps and retcon into a healer build at lvl 40. If you do want to level as healer, then having friends to do group content with can help a lot. Anyways, here's another option for a TP healer + CC build:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Support)

    Level 12: Finesse (Dex: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 15: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)
    Level 18: Coordinated (Dex: 5, Int: 5)
    Level 21: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Psi Lash
Level 1: Ego Blast (Rank 2, Mind Opener)
    Level 6: Telepathic Reverberation
Level 8: Aura of Arcane Clarity (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Ego Sleep (Plagued by Nightmares)
    Level 14: Manipulator
    Level 17: Iniquity (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Mental Storm (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Vala's Light (Rank 2, Light Everlasting)
Level 26: Ego Storm (Rank 2, Malevolent Manifestation)
    Level 29: Mental Leech
Level 32: Redemption (Rank 2, Salvation)
Level 35: Eldritch Shield (Rank 2)
    Level 38: Rebirth
    Adv. Points: 32/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Presence: Repurpose (3/3)
    Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (2/3)
    Presence: Force of Will (1/2)
    Presence: Vulnerability (2/2)
    Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
    Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
    Overseer: Administer (3/3)
    Overseer: Ruthless (2/2)
    Overseer: Impact (2/2)
    Overseer: Trapped (3/3)
    Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

You could also consider using Sentry (w/ Stalling Tactics) instead of Overseer for the specs if you want to focus a bit more on boosting defense and/or CC strength, though you'll lose a debuff in Trapped. Vala's Light (or Arcane Vit, both in Sorc) can help you directly AoE heal here (and can be used to heal yourself), while Iniquity is your main single-target heal for allies. MStorm, Ego Sleep, and Ego Storm can all help CC and proc Manip here, while MLeech's Dependency can be nice for the extra background healing.

Ofc the slotted passive can also be a different one than AoAC here, depending on what you want to focus on for the build. Regardless, it gears mostly for Pres, w/ some Con.

ccs and healers are very different beasts - somewhat different gear and mod preferences, different toggles, and very different power choices. That said, all ccs will have a few heals, and most healers will have a cc (usually for sentinel mastery). But you can't treat these as similar things - they function very differently, and you can't serve both masters effectively.

AoAC is a great passive for healers, but any aura can work.

ccs will gravitate towards AoRP (or go dual passive and swap to tank role for dogs).

ccs generally can't stay within any one framework and be effective. Sleep is required. Ego storm (with malevolent) is a good idea. Mental Storm simply isn't large enough area to be an effective paralyze - they'll want the darkness one (grasping shadows?) or electrocute if they want an area paralyze. (Or use the PA device). Taser Arrow is useful for Ape.

Healers must have a team rez. CCs will generally not take a team rez.

Healers generally take iniquity, an AoE heal of some sort (I approve of Vala's above), and possibly some sort of tertiary heal (conviction is actually pretty nice to offset health loss from iniquity). CCers will have very little overlap - their heals will tend towards things like life essence, bionic shielding, and mental leech.

If you do want to try to marry the two, you pretty much need to give up on being an effective dog cc. (Ape can be cced with nothing beyond sleep, taser arrow, and manipulator, so you could be a healer/ape cc just fine. Eido cc requires nothing more than taser arrow). But if you're doing this, i'd recommend taking both compassion and manipulator, and activating the one for the role you're filling.

Thank you all for the replies! It helped me with knowing how to build a healer character. I thought that it was possible to CC and heal efficiently at endgame contents. Do you know how can i make a good CC build? I tried building something here, but i certainly have no idea of what i'm doing.

I've seen the thread about cc builds, but since most of them are about 2 years old i didn't know if they're still good. But i'll do something based on those builds. Here's my first attempt
