Blood Mage dps

I was thinking of respecting a character of mine to be a blood mage of sorts. I want to focus on dps with some self healing powers. I figured that a normal darkness dps build with at least lifedrain or devour essence would probably be good. Even though it probably fits thematically, I've never used dark transfusion before so I'm not entirely sure how effective it would be. I'm also undecided on a buff, unsure if I should go for a dps form like concentration or if compassion would be ok for the buff to heals for lifedrain. Like I said, I want to be a dps but I don't need to be doing the top damage by any means. Any thoughts or feedback, especially on taking compassion as my form instead of a dps focused form, would be greatly appreciated.

    Well, if you want to use Dark Transfusion (w/ its special adv for the dmg boost), then it is good to pair w/ lifedrain effects to help heal the self-dmg anyways. Here's an example build:

    The last 2 powers can be w/e ya want.

    Can use charged SBlast to put up Fear and Devoid, and DCollapse can refresh both debuffs after that, while using charged ERuin as your main single-target filler attack, and Dark Transfusion can buff you and help w/ energy. For AoE, you can mostly just use SEmbrace, though you can also throw DCollapse in there. Lifedrain and SEmbrace can help you heal as well. Gears mostly for Ego, w/ some Con and Rec.
