Returning player looking for builds

zarkolomejzarkolomej Posts: 3 Arc User
Hey guys,
After a long break (10 years) I've decided to return to the game and i'm currently looking for builds for two of my main characters.
One of them used to be electric power-set while the other one was dex based melee character.
Both of them are free form so all bets are off when it comes to limitation in regards to power-sets. Also, i'd prefer min-maxed builds over thematic ones, the idea is to build these characters for end-game content and for grind while the new ones i make afterwards are purely Thematic :)
Thank you in advance for the assistance :)

    Here's one for lightning
Meta Lightning - Freeform (Any / Multiple)
    v3.43:35

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Recovery (Secondary)
    Level 15: Dexterity (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Psychokinetic (Dex: 10, Ego: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Worldly (Ego: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 9: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 12: Shooter (Dex: 5, Ego: 5)
    Level 15: Martial Training (Str: 3, Dex: 3, Ego: 3, Rec: 3)
    Level 18: Daredevil (Ego: 5, End: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Electric Bolt
    Level 1: Chain Lightning (Superconductor)
Level 6: Electric Form (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Ball Lightning (Triplicity, Supercharged)
    Level 11: Concentration
    Level 14: Power Source
Level 17: Lightning Arc (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 20: Gigabolt (Rank 2)
Level 23: Endorphin Rush (Rank 2)
    Level 26: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 29: Electric Shield (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Blinding Light
    Level 35: Thundering Return
    Level 38:
    Adv. Points: 23/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
    Ego: Insight (3/3)
    Ego: Follow Through (3/3)
    Ego: Sixth Sense (2/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Find the Mark (2/3)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

    Devices

This is a glass cannon build. If you want a more durable dps replace dex with con as a SS, and switch out dex talents for con.

I left some leeway in terms of advantage points... some people like death arc on gigabolt, others like r3. I would probably rank up ball lightning to r2... but you can play around with those details.

Last power could be an active offense, or (if you have it) the lightning power that grants energy over time. Or sparkstorm, if you like having a pbaoe.

Yea, I'd prob get R2 of Ball Lit, otherwise that Elec build looks pretty good.

Dex-based melee is really broad for a classification, since that can use any MA form (or Mental Disc in TK), and MA forms can cover many things (charged attacks, bleeds, any crit-based build, etc). Just to give a simple (but effective) example, I'll go w/ TK Blades, but there's tons of other Dex-based melee builds that can be good in the high-end:

(Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Melee Damage)
    v3.43:35

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
    Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Psychokinetic (Dex: 10, Ego: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 9: Worldly (Ego: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
    Level 15: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
    Level 18: Shooter (Dex: 5, Ego: 5)
    Level 21: Daredevil (Ego: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Kinetic Darts
Level 1: Ego Weaponry (Rank 2, Stressed Out)
Level 6: Id Mastery (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 8: Mental Discipline
    Level 11: Telekinetic Reverberation
Level 14: Ego Blade Frenzy (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Ego Blade Annihilation (Rank 2, Mental Acuity)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 26: Energy Shield (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Ego Surge (Nimble Mind)
    Level 32: Mind Wipe
    Level 35: Fiery Embrace
Level 38: Ego Blade Pandemonium (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Adv. Points: 32/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
    Ego: Insight (3/3)
    Ego: Follow Through (2/3)
    Ego: Sixth Sense (3/3)
Brawler: The Glory of Battle (1/3)
    Brawler: Penetrating Strikes (2/2)
    Brawler: Ruthless (2/2)
    Brawler: Setup (2/2)
    Brawler: Flanking (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

The build just alternates between EW and charged EBA for boss dps. Warden could also be taken instead of Vind for the 2nd spec. Gears mostly for Dex.

Ofc, other SS setups can work here as well, like DEX/Rec/Ego, or taking Str SS if you want some passive knock resist, etc. If you want more of a defensive approach, you could use a DEX/Rec/Con SS setup, and prob get the 3-pt dmg shield adv on EBFrenzy to make it easy to mitigate trash dmg. The Instill Doubt adv on EBF can also be okay if you want to be a bit more supportive when AoE-ing.

I should have been a bit more specific when it came to MA character. I used to run blades or single blade with him (i don't recall precisely which but any would do). Are there builds organised around those rather then mental that can compete dps wise?

Yea, SB or DB are fine, though I may go w/ SB for single-target dps. Here's a simple example build for one:

(Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Melee Damage)
    v3.43:35

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Strength (Primary)
    Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
    Level 15: Recovery (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Blade (Str: 10, Dex: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Impresario (Dex: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 9: Relentless (Str: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
Level 15: Martial Focus (Str: 5, Dex: 5)
    Level 18: Accurate (Dex: 5, End: 5)
    Level 21: Bodybuilder (Str: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Reaper's Touch
Level 1: Reaper's Caress (Rank 2, Cleaving Strikes)
Level 6: Night Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Form of the Swordsman
    Level 11: Steadfast
Level 14: Scything Blade (Swallowtail Cut, Heavy Blade)
    Level 17: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Reaper's Embrace (Rank 2, No Mercy)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 26: Deflect (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 29: Smoke Bomb
    Level 32: Fiery Embrace
    Level 35:
Level 38: Vorpal Blade (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Adv. Points: 30/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Strength: Swole (2/3)
    Strength: Physical Peak (3/3)
    Strength: Brutality (2/2)
    Strength: Overpower (3/3)
Brawler: The Glory of Battle (1/3)
    Brawler: Penetrating Strikes (2/2)
    Brawler: Ruthless (2/2)
    Brawler: Setup (2/2)
    Brawler: Flanking (3/3)
    Warden: Slaughter (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Upper Hand (2/3)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Mastery: Warden Mastery (1/1)

Some of the later powers could be switched out, if desired.

Does the usual SB thing of building up bleeds and then rupturing them w/ REmbrace. Vindicator could also work as the 2nd spec, instead of Warden (and then prob get Str Mastery). Other valid SS setups here could be: DEX/Rec/Str, DEX/Rec/Con, or STR/Dex/Con (all still Dex-focused, ofc). Even Ego PSS + Dex SS could work, since Ego PSS's crit-related bonuses are general and not ranged-only.

Is there any reason why you chose Night Warrior over Way of the Warrior? Also, what are your suggestions for level 35 power pick?

Just adding an active offense at lvl.35 would be a good move. Breakfree dmg and damage boost: pick Intensity or Lock and Load.

Yea, an AO isn't going to boost dmg by that much overall, due to the passive dmg DR, but it's still okay for adding a bit of burst dmg, and the extra breakfree can be nice. You could also consider something general like Toxic Nanites or Nanobot Swarm, or you could go a diff route and add some extra self-heals, ally support, or more CC, etc. It'll somewhat depend on what else you want to shore up w/ the build.

No huge reason, since the build still uses a non-charged combo often, but NW's -resist can be nice vs bosses w/ high innate resistances. Plus, you can opt to use Sneak and Shadowstrike w/ NW. Either passive should generally perform well for melee, though (Might's Unstoppable is another solid pick). Typically in a dps build there's more than one passive that can fit it well.
