Rift is/was my main character. The concept is that he was a teleporter trapped in the dark dimension and emerged with darkness powers. I wasn't really having fun playing him anymore and asked for help with his build from someone rather infamous in CO (especially on the forums). I wasn't really happy with that build either as they had taken away my void horror and summon shadows (part of my concept was that Rift summons beings from the dark dimension). He has the telekinesis power for the effect of summoning teleporting random objects to throw at enemies and I quite like it. He has Void Shift for the effect of teleporting to enemies....but it seems out of place in a ranged build. He has Force eruption as a place holder until I unlock Shadow Eruption. I put Void Horror back into the mix and took the commander tree to try to compensate for some of the energy drain of having an active pet. I just don't have fun playing the build. It is awkward for me as I have to stay at a certain range to get the most benefit from it....which works ok in a group but not at all in solo which is how I prefer to play the game. At this point I just want a build I can enjoy playing (with or without the summons) I love the "Storm" build flowcyto posted and have been focusing on that as my main character because compared to that all my other builds feel meh. Any help would be appreciated.

My super cool CC build and how to use it.
Because of the Concentration power I was told by the person that made the build that it works best at maximum range to get the energy return. Reading the tooltip I see that it is at least 25' away or to fully maintain the ranged power.

For single-target dps, it alternates between charged SBlast and ERuin, while optionally keeping up both pets and/or Soul Vortex for utility (Void Horror is 'permanent', until it dies or is dismissed, and the shadows are temporary). AoE can be done w/ SEmbrace, while also throwing in Soul Vortex (both should give you and nearby allies some decent background healing). I tried to keep the build somewhat true to the theme, while also giving it a pretty solid Darkness backbone. Gears mostly for Dex, w/ some Con and Rec (and some cost discount on gear).
