Put the "floaters" into a UI box we can move around

warcanchwarcanch Posts: 1,156 Arc User
I'm so tired of not being able to see the damage/heal floaters OVER large npcs. Even using /camdist or /gfxsetdefaultfov are problematic.

Certainly a big reason for this is so I can see what actual damage I'm doing. Because having the combat log open during a huge fight is useless, as the text either disappears or scrolls by so fast, even if I've scrolled up many pages worth.

Conversly, I would like to be able to move the damage floater location so that when I use Gattling gun I can actually see the things I'm fighting, instead of a deluge of numbers.

Sounds like a theme of a few topics currently under discussion: being able to see what we are fighting.

How difficult would this be to implement?

It seems that all damage floaters are pinned to the top of everyone/everything. Putting this into a UI-movable box would be so helpful, especially at all of the super-sized NPCs we encounter these days.

I find the floaters annoying and turn off that part of the display on the HUD.

For me, they are usually a helpful visual aid. If they were annoying or causing problems, then it is nice that you can turn them off.

Also if this isn't a feature already ( I don't think it is ) I'd like to be able to only see the damage floaters for when I take damage, and turn off seeing damage floaters over stuff I hit.

Technically, the floaters are in a UI box you can move around -- they are the same as the combat tab in your chat, and you can move that around :)

How does that translate into me being able to move them to the right side of my screen?

By default there is a "combat" tab in your chat box, you might have removed that though. But even without that tab you can toggle on combat text in any chat tab. And you can place your chat box anywhere on your screen.

Floaters are copies of ordinary chat messages, so you can just make your chat window show combat messages and turn off the floaters.

At the speed of which that stuff zooms by AND during Cosmic fights they have a tendency to get vaped, this is not a workable solution.

You can turn on only your own combat messages. There are three message categories. They'll still scroll by pretty fast, multiple messages per second on some builds, but the reason floaters are where they are is to make the message source visible; they appear over the head of whatever took damage, and without that you need the extra information which is what makes combat chat so wordy.

If you don't like the chat thing, you can also set up ACT and use the miniparser window.
That would be something like this:

Even when you have it just showing YOU it still shows all effects on you from all sources. At Cosmics and OMs with super-larges, this gets loaded up quickly and zooms on by.

Chat bar is lousy because you can't just stop the window at a certain place to look at 1 number you were interested in. And, in the above situations, it often gets visibly "emptied".

I just want to parse "on the fly". I don't need something telling me I critted X% of the time. I want to see it as it happens. The system works on standard sized NPCs. But, even at max range on a PA user, I have to zoom farther out or put my camera at an odd angle to see the floaters on the super-large NPCs. And forget about it if you are a melee toon.

With a solution of the floaters in a UI-movable box, if you don't want to see the floaters, you can move them or simply turn them off.

Numbers are important, especially while they are coming up. A parser is great for later.

It would be nice if floaters that would appear above the top of your screen were forced down, but it's necessary for floaters to be near the entity they apply to.

Then some sort of box/rectangle (that is probably also their hitbox) that would visually fit over them. Put a slider in that so I can put it at the bottom. I only need it for "my" target. So, maybe put it somewhere on the targets' picture or tell box.

I think you're well into the realm of 'you should use ACT'.
  • spinnytopspinnytop Posts: 16,467 Arc User
Not really, because ACT wouldn't get him what he's asking for. It wouldn't get me what I'm asking for either.
