Yeah, now that i see the bigger picture I see the problems with this new program...

Gold status has always existed, they just changed how you acquire it and what it gives you. We're still waiting for a way to change power colors outside of it
I find the whole idea of "Spinny was wrong and the world ended" to be very fitting. A reasonable trigger for the apocalypse. Not entirely inevitable, but still gives the world plenty of time.

Well yes, color change has always been possible.
