Building An Offensive, Free Form Force Build With Kinetic Manipulation's Force Cascade Bug

llesnallesna Posts: 9 Arc User
Hi all,

I've been reading up on Kinetic Manipulation and I can see that there's still a longtime bug with Force Cascade where the energy form drops and won't come back. I've seen multiple threads on this, but no builds suggested to work around the bug, perhaps by dropping Force Cascade altogether.

I haven't put together a full build for this in the Powerhouse, as I'm still exploring this as a mere possibility. However, I'm exploring several options:

• Taking Intelligence as a primary superstat to reduce costs.
• Taking either more energy secondary superstats (endurance/recovery) to keep high damage throughput, ego and constitution (for damage and survivability) or a mixture of the two.
• Replacing Force Cascade with other powers (Force Geyser, Crushing Wave).
• Taking some kind of suitable energy unlock (in addition to Force Sheathe advantage on Force Shield).
• Taking suitable heals for the character, in addition to use Protection Field as a well to stop a lot of incoming damage.

I have a fair idea of what I want to do. Unfortunately I lack the tactical expertise to put together a synergystic build for this. Any help / thoughts, particularly with regards to heals (as well as active offences and defences), would be most appreciated.

You generally want to avoid using a slotted passive that's an Energy Form w/ FC anyways; even w/o the bug its somewhat counter-productive to disable it temporarily. There are some good non-EF passives that can work w/ FC, like Unstoppable (energy on knock, scaling w/ Rec), Quarry (better w/ Int), and NW (can ignore the stealth features if they aren't thematic- otherwise its a nice side perk). AoPM + Hybrid role is also good for FC, though Hybrid auras are discouraged in large-group content since they can disrupt Support auras.

You can still make an FC-less Force build just fine, though FC is still Force's best spammable dps attack. Force Blast is well behind, but does have a knock-immune dmg bonus, and is much cheaper to use. If using Force Blast, I'd prob throw in a Crushing debuff or two from another powerset. Easiest candidates for ranged are Frag and Incendiary Grenade in Muni. Since FBlast us much cheaper, you don't necc need INT PSS + Rec_End SS, though INT PSS is still a fine option.

An example of such a build:

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform
    v2.4.2-29

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
    Level 10: Dexterity (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Specialist (Dex: 10, Con: 10, Int: 8, Rec: 10)
Level 6: Covert Ops Training (Str: 3, Dex: 3, Con: 3, Int: 3)
Level 9: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)
    Level 12: Acrobat (Dex: 5, Con: 5)
    Level 15: Coordinated (Dex: 5, Int: 5)
Level 18: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 21: Negotiator (Int: 5, Rec: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Force Bolts (advantages)
Level 1: Force Blast (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 6: Force Shield (Rank 2, Force Sheathe)
Level 8: Night Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3, Silent Running)
    Level 11: Chilled Form (advantages)
    Level 14: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 17: Molecular Self-Assembly
Level 20: Crushing Wave (Rank 2, Rank 3, Disruptive Force)
Level 23: Frag Grenade (Cuts and Scrapes)
Level 26: Incendiary Grenade (Chemical Burn)
    Level 29: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 32: Imbue (advantages)
Level 35: Protection Field (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 38: Gravity Driver (Rank 2)
    Adv. Points: 33/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Tactician (2/2)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (3/3)
    Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Find the Mark (2/3)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

You'll want to try to use CWave near its max range, since it can't proc Conc or Chilled Form solely via the 4-tick rule atm. Gears mostly for Int, w/ some Con and Dex.

Thank you both. I'll play around in the powerhouse to see what feels right, based on those suggestions :)
