Help with a poison dart frog build

benoitseanbenoitsean Posts: 322 Arc User
I would like to do a build based off of the golden poison dart frog.

The golden poison frog's skin is densely coated in a toxin. This poison prevents its victim's nerves from transmitting impulses, leaving the muscles in an inactive state of contraction, which can lead to heart failure.

The golden poison frog is not venomous, but poisonous: venomous animals have a delivery method for the toxin, such as fangs or spines, while poisonous animals and plants do not have a delivery method and rely on transference of the toxin, typically by, but not limited to, ingestion.

I was thinking of making him a martial artist and adding Pestilence as the passive and Devour Essence as one of the abilities with the rest as martial arts. No weapons just strictly hand to hand combat. Here is an idea of what I want. Let me know if this is good or if anything needs to change.

(Unnamed Build) - Freeform
v2.3.2-28

Super Stats
Level 6: Constitution (Primary)

Level 21: Jack of All Trades (Str: 2, Dex: 2, Con: 2, Int: 2, Ego: 2, Pre: 2, Rec: 2, End: 2)

Powers
Level 1: Righteous Fists
Level 1: One Hundred Hands (Rank 2, Rank 3, Ghostly Strikes)

Constitution: Adrenaline Rush (2/2)
Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
Warden: Elusive (2/2)
Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (3/3)
Vindicator: Modified Gear (2/2)
Mastery: Constitution Mastery (1/1)

I do want to keep with the theme of the build so please keep Pestilence in there. I do want a lot of dodging, jumping around, and somewhat fast reflexes since it is a frog. But I also want him survivable since he is strictly melee (if that's even possible with Pestilence). Thank you all for helping me out.

In not buffing Crushing or Dimensional dmg, I wouldn't normally recommend a passive like Pestilence here, though I can understand keeping it for theme. Overall, the dmg will be rather low w/ BCR and Parry's dmg penalties and in using Con PSS as a non-tank, on top of the issue w/ the slotted passive. You also won't have very high dodge w/o MD being up.

Anyways, Unarmed has been getting revamped on the PTS. I'd prob wait till that's finalized at least, since most things listed here are subject to the changes. Maybe peruse the changes yourself, if you haven't already.

Pestilence should increase slashing and bleed damage. Keeping with your theme, you can use claws and, if you have invisible weapons, it'll look like hand to hand. Should help with dps.

Viper fangs have the spitting cobra advantage which applies poison, and taking the phlebotomist advantage on devour essence would make it more useful.

I don't see the point of medical nanites in a martial arts build since you can't attack. I'd use something that applies or refreshes poison or bleed.

If you go STR primary with the Juggernaut and gear for a bit of CON, you will be much more survivable than if you take CON primary. You will also deal a lot more damage.

3 ADs is not very useful as their CDs will overlap a lot. 2x ADs + Nanobots is great. Accelerated Metabolism is a terrible adv that doesn't proc often enough to make a difference...spend the points on your travel powers to make yourself move faster/jumpier.

I would suggest that the Bestial powerset is much better suited to what you want than Unarmed. It doesn't use weapons and is actually buffed by your passive. The lunge, Pounce, is also faster and more frog-like than Thunderbolt lunge. The block, Antagonize, provides a very nice movement speed buff. Massacre deals boatloads of damage and knocks down your enemies while you kill them, further increasing your toughness in fights. Here's the build:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

If you really want to use attacks from the martial arts Unarmed set, I suggest waiting until the current powerset pass on PTS goes live as it contains many major changes to Unarmed. In that case I'd also suggest taking a passive that buffs Unarmed attacks....such as Way of the Warrior or Unstoppable.
