Brawler role self healer

gbjohngbjohn Posts: 9 Arc User
I am looking to build a Brawler around either Devour Essence or Thrash. I am leaning toward DE, because you don't have to apply a bleed for it to work. My aim is to build a toon, that, while not particularly durable (no Con superstat), can survive in the thick of things due to constant leeching of health. Here are my questions, in no particular order:

Superstats. Should I stat Presence for the healing boost, or stick with Str/Dex and some sort of energy manager?

How energy intensive is it to spam DE or Thrash? Will I need Recovery or Endurance as a superstat?

Take Compassion for the healing, or would it kill my DPS?

Specializations. Are there any must haves for this kind of build?

Thank you in advance for any advice or opinions!

Number of ways to build around DE or Thrash as a dps. Here's one example (of many):

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform
    v2.3.2-28

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Strength (Primary)
    Level 10: Presence (Secondary)
    Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Hero (Str: 8, Dex: 8, Con: 8, Int: 8, Ego: 8, Pre: 8, Rec: 6, End: 6)
Level 6: Impressive Physique (Str: 5, Pre: 5)
    Level 9: Prodigy (Pre: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Bodybuilder (Str: 5, End: 5)
Level 15: Lasting Impression (Pre: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 18: Relentless (Str: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Infernal Bolts
Level 1: Devour Essence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 6: Supernatural Power
    Level 8: Compassion
    Level 11: Pestilence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 14: Epidemic (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Life Essence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Will-o'-the-Wisp (Guide, Ghost Fire)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 26: Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 29: Pounce (Furious Rush)
    Level 32: Masterful Dodge
    Level 35: Lock N Load (Rank 2)
    Level 38: Rebirth
    Adv. Points: 30/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Strength: Swole (1/3)
    Strength: Physical Peak (3/3)
    Strength: Quick Recovery (1/2)
    Strength: Brutality (2/2)
    Strength: Juggernaut (3/3)
    Warden: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Warden: Ruthless (2/2)
    Warden: Elusive (2/2)
    Warden: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Strength Mastery (1/1)

The point in Quick Recovery is just to help Compassion proc. Gears mostly for Pres, w/ some End (and Rec) for energy.

I will warn you: in any challenging fight against multiple opponents, they will do damage faster than you can heal yourself, unless you thin them out or CC them. A usual start on Flow's build would be to pop masterful dodge, move into the middle of mobs while running epidemic, and only switch to devour essence when most of them are dead and you're cleaning up.

Devour Essence, Will of the wisp to apply a debuff and boost the healing of Life Essence if you decide to help the teamates around you, Pre/Dex/Rec geared in dex could work I guess with supernatural power eu.

Yea, having at least one of the ADs handy will be very helpful if you're trying to AoE a tough mob. I wouldn't normally do that w/o Con SS'd and w/ an offensive passive, but it can be done w/ enough survival powers.
