A thoughtless CC/Healer

Continued from: https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/1209532/telepathy-or-nuttin

So here is a build for a durable CC/Healer that doesn't use TP for its control

Trey Bien - Freeform
v2.3.1-25

Super Stats
Level 6: Presence (Primary)
Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
Level 15: Intelligence (Secondary)

Talents
Level 1: The Witch (Con: 10, Int: 8, Pre: 10, Rec: 10)
Level 6: Shrug It Off (Con: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 9: Healthy Mind (Con: 5, Int: 5)
Level 12: Diplomatic (Int: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 15: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 18: Lasting Impression (Pre: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Negotiator (Int: 5, Rec: 5)

Powers
Level 1: Shadow Bolt
Level 1: Grasping Shadows (Unyielding Agony, Devouring Darkness)
Level 6: Ebon Void (Rank 2, Voracious Darkness)
Level 8: Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 11: Molecular Self-Assembly
Level 14: Bionic Shielding (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Mental Leech
Level 20: Soul Mesmerism (Rank 2, Glossolalia)
Level 23: Massacre (Bloody Mess, Open Wound)
Level 26: Crippling Coils (Barbed Chains, Light Everlasting)
Level 29: Ebon Rift (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 32: Manipulator
Level 35: Resurgence
Level 38: Rebirth
Adv. Points: 34/36

Travel Powers
Level 6: Jet Pack (Rank 2)
Level 35: Teleportation

Specializations
Presence: Repurpose (3/3)
Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
Presence: Dominion (2/2)
Presence: Moment of Glory (3/3)
Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
Sentinel: Caregiver (3/3)
Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
Overseer: Administer (3/3)
Overseer: Ruthless (2/2)
Overseer: Impact (2/2)
Overseer: Trapped (3/3)
Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

Tested on a naked character on the PTS and it handled the max battlestation like a bored champ. Power order is not optimized or leveling but maybe it could be.

Soul Mesmerism w/glossolalia was way more effective than I thought it was going to be but, of course, it will not hinder a boss; although I think it does put the glossolalia effect on them such that they can CC adds. Wacky, right?

Bionic Shielding could be replaced with any number of other self-heals, conviction is a good replacement that plays well with MSA

Lots of charging, I wondered whether to go with MSA or Overdrive. I chose MSA because it would even fire when I was turtled up under my block.

The build needs energy so I thought about taking Energy Shield instead of Ebon Void or I could just gear in some Recovery or Endurance.

Massacre is there because it self-synergizes and you are going to want to be close to take in that sweet Mental Leech heal unless that's too dangerous in which case massacre won't help you anyway.

Yes, Mental Leech is TP, but technically not a CC power. So, CC is still coming from non-TP sets. :P

What do you think, Sirs?

There's a reason sleep is a staple on CC builds: duration. Against master villain rank enemies, sleep has 120% of its tooltip duration. Paralyze has 60%.

To maintain continuous control, your duration must exceed the length a hold resistance stack lasts, with one hold resistance stack on the target (and it really helps if it exceeds the length with two stacks). Hold resistance stacks last for 15s and increase breakfree rate by 100%, so you need a duration of 30s, and preferably 45s (and that means you have to refresh holds every 15s, which is a big PITA). That means, for a paralyze, a tooltip duration of 50-75s. You have rank 1 and 2 paralyze effects, so even with max manipulator stacks duration is not going to be great. It is probably technically possible to do dog control like this, but your margin of error is very low.

I have never been in the content that features these dogs but I don't think I would take this build into that sort of thing. That whole affair is a level of stress I would not attempt with so shaky a concept as CC anyway but certainly not this build I do agree.

I feel like this is mostly incidental heals with a side order of CC.

Ah. For general PvE this should work well enough, though it's nice to have a stun for situations where you're on a team (say, an alert) and your teammates are blindly shooting everything in sight, breaking your paralyzes.

Yea, if you wanted an easy AoE stun for trash, I'd prob go w/ TClap or TK Maelstrom. Sonic Arrow w/ DD adv can also work- as could maintained AoEs like Venom Breath w/ adv, Skarn's w/ adv, Elec Current w/ adv, or TK Barrage w/ adv.
<CO stuff> .: Petco :. // A basic FF building guide (see 1st reply) // PSA on Power Activation Delay // Ayonachan's Gift Horse (misc stat data)

Shadow eruption w/blot would likely be closer to theme, though that's in the GCR store so might not be available.

I am putting together a build with Shadow Eruption w/adv, plus Grasping shadows. With the right specs, 8 stacks Manipulator, I am hoping it will work. Definitely more work/stress than sleep build, but I got two builds of that and have it down pat.

EDIT: The character has two AoE stuns, each which lasts for 9 sec, plus a couple other ways to stun using darkness. I got the Grasping Shadows paralyze to last 75 seconds according to the tooltip, and picked up the Blood Moon device as a backup. I will test it out on PTS in the next couple days, then post the build.

And this makes short work of QWZ. The worm summoning worms are still problematic but overall, I have had almost no problems while using this build.

Ebon void gives me a great turtle shell while the mobs are getting all those openers out of their systems. Soul Mesmerism gets passed around and soon most of the mobs are just standing around like its a wallflower jamboree, nothing wakes them, one, two swipes with the Scything Blade and its Swallowtail Cuts for everybody. Master Bosses? No worries, they just get a bleed then its time for the Massacre with the Bloody Mess advantage.

Range, dots, direct damage, debuffs and Lots of healing, a few End mods and I am ready for anything that can be blocked.

Still would not take this on hard-target team mobs or cosmics, but this might be my QWZ farming tool after the Heavy Weapons build, the Epidemic build and the Telapathy Build let me down to varying degrees.

This is actually my real test for a CCer build. Building to hold dogs, hearts, and orbs is simple. Even building something that can do that and be a decent healer is fairly simple. But doing all that and being able to faceroll most of the "hardest" zone before you die of old age, now that's a good trick.

Well, yes, but . . . you can have fairly short holds and still do that. Also, you don't have to manage hold resist stacks with mobs that die.
