Ever wonder how fast you can run?
My speedster is running 80 MPH in the game using Mach Speed.

So how do I know this as fact? Math. I took some screen shots of my little speedster. And using her height of 56" tall I calculated the block length. Then using the top down map I found it is one mile (5,280 feet) from the south side of City Hall to the Until Building. Using a stop watch on my cell phone I ran between the 2 points until I had an average time of 45 seconds. This told me 1.333 miles per minute or 80 MPH.

If you want to know how fast you fly, run, walk, etc.. Give it a try for yourself. Her bike did the run in 20 second at 180 MPH.

Temp siggy...

...until Vanilla gets the forum fixed.

    You are my hero. Lol

Little details like this I enjoy.
  • Oh if only we had that bug where you can stack travel powers still going in the game...

As far as I know, movement rates for powers are in feet per second, and the base for ground movement is something like 20' (I was told 19' at one point but that seems weird). Superspeed r3 is +522% move speed, which is by the above logic 118-124 feet per second. To convert fps to mph, multiply by 0.682, which yield speeds of 80-84 mph.

This what I did to measure (estimate) the distance.

After getting the ground tile size I ran over the map counting a few.

The ironic thing, I did this for Guild Wars (original) and estimated the character to be 6 feet tall. Someone on the forums told me that I was wrong and size of the contents are "enormous". Some responses were irate about it. But the scale they gave would have made our characters giants running a inhuman speeds.

Personally I don't care if they believe me or not but most game maps on MMOs are not much more than a few miles. The devs just have you twist and turn making the route much longer than it should be. Some player in the game commented there are no houses in Detroit (aka Millennium City) I explained we are downtown and the last time I was downtown Detroit there are no houses.

I live in Michigan and know Canada doesn't have that Mountain range across the river either. But in the end, it is a purely fictional game and I enjoy playing it.

How did you get your character's height? Because neither the scale in the costumer nor the marked scale on the post near the costumer are even close to accurate.

Not to nit pick, are you gathering your height from the costume window or did you use the actual measuring stick near the tailor in the Ren center. Despite it might say 5'6" in the tailor, any variance in leg size and it will instantly throw it off. My character is 5'11" tall, a hair under 6' actually, for instance, after painstakingly measuring the leg length properly and making sure my height matched up to the measuring stick.

The measuring stick is way too small compared to the environment, too. I use it myself, and counters, chairs, etc. are all huge. I still use it and just ignore that, but it's poor for calculating anything in the environment.

It's actually a proper measurement, the environment is just made "WoW big" (ie environment tends to be made larger than it should be) since the average player typically will make characters bigger than normal and to fit the exagerated features of most of the characters and of course camera zooming. After all, in WoW you have these huge buildings, structures and such that would realistic serve no purpose. It's one thing I hated in GW2, pointlessly overly large structures that served no purpose than to basically accommodate sloppy cameras and of course tank the GPU all in favor of looking WoW big.

There are a few 5'x5' objects in the game, though you generally need to glitch to see them (for example, there are some behind the tower in the Hi Pan alert, which I explored back when you could still use ascension).

Hehe if they are what I think they are, they are spawn objects usually used to preload items into the game for events and such. it's a technique used in most games, actually.

They aren't (spawn objects like that do exist, for example in the Eidolon fight), it's just a graphical object labeled 5x5 square (or something like that) and located in places that can't normally be seen, so it's probably a mapmaker's tool (Tumerboy used to be very fond of leaving extra objects around in inaccessible areas).

Possibly, though wish they would fix Hi Pan's model spawn in but what can you do. They also need to fix his opening dialog since he never says it if we have to suffer through the RP, I want to hear the whole thing.

How did you get your character's height? Because neither the scale in the costumer nor the marked scale on the post near the costumer are even close to accurate.

    I have my character set to 4' 8" tall (yes in the tailor) but if you are saying the game is inaccurate the "fictional" height doesn't matter. If my character is taller than 4' 8" then the distance is greater and the speed is increased. So let me break down some math;
Height Distance Speed on Foot Speed on Bike
    56 inches 1 mile 80 MPH 180 MPH
    60 1.07 86 193
    72 1.29 103 232
    84 1.5 120 270
It really just comes down to fractional math. If I believe my character is the size of a sand flea, or an elephant, she still travel from the point A to point B at the same rate. If you are in doubt of the tailor, you could make 2 or more characters with different heights and using the pixel count to apply the ratios.

Edit started here--- sorry got tired needed sleep. :D

I took some screenshots of my 4 characters in the character selection menu. The camera distance is fixed so height can be measured in image pixels here. I used one costume male default the game tailor claims is 6 feet tall. Using him as the "standard" this is the outcome.
Character # Pixels Tall Inches Tailor Says
    1 294 52" or 4' 4" 4' 8"
    2 363 65" or 5' 5" 5' 1"
    3 410 73" or 6' 1" 6 feet
    4 535 95" or 7' 11" 7 feet
    default 405 72" 6 feet
Conclusion for the various height, my son pointed out, increased leg length does increase the height, and doesn't change the value in the tailor menu.
