Actually... I have to disagree. There's a pizza place in my town that makes a "baked stuffed shrimp" pizza. My first thought when I first heard of it was that it's a crazy idea. But that crazy idea has turned out to be one of my favorite pizzas.
Fun fact: For some reason this topic got me thinking of Scooby and Shaggy (the kings of bizarre food combos) and up until 2002, Scooby and Shaggy would literally just about eat anything. However, Kassem, the voice of Shaggy, stopped doing the voice in 1995 because he refused to do Burger King stuff, as he was a known Vegan, and he continued to refuse to voice Shaggy until 2002, when studio heads relented and made Scooby and Shaggy vegans. Hence why you had that weird period of time where Scooby and Shaggy were eating weird **** veggie foods like eggplant burgers and such.
so where was that veganism when shaggy spent many episodes of the original show eating various meats? why didn't kassem protest any of that?
*shrugs* Hypocrisy is always a funny thing and I guess, Kassem didn't have that level of clout to say no, versus a sustainable income, or he wasn't as batshit insane as most vegans eventually become. It's just funny that a Burger King add he was asked to do as Shaggy is what triggered it.

Shrimp would be alright on a white or green sauce I think, but I also like pineapple with pepperoni...and those other fruit pizzas do look pretty good.
Pickles do not belong on pizza. I'm not a fan of mushrooms either but that is more of a personal thing.

I'd say that either he wasn't a vegan back then, or he wasn't emboldened enough, as there was a general lack of understanding back then that today doesn't spread through the entire population.

He's been a vegan all his life and animal rights activist, but I would say he wasn't a big name back then thus couldn't pick and choose or tell companies what to do when he needed money to pay rent. While Kassem was a well known, questionable radio jock with some rather vocal opinions at times, but his American top 40 didn't start until 1970, which was after his first run of of Scooby Doo, in 1969. But he didn't start Casey's Top 40 until around 1988 after disputes with American Top 40, and got a $15 million dollar deal for CT40.
Basically his clout and ego grew and the tipping point was when Burger King asked him to do his Shaggy voice for one of their ads, and evidently that was the straw that broke the camels back for him.
