Um... a bunch of obvious principles of boss design, restated?

So, understanding what you are talking about since all that article seems to work just fine for CO's big boss battles. So, other than your usual attempt at trying to proclaim you know better, what exactly are you aiming at?

The road to an endgame MMO boss battle is steep, requiring dozens of hours of leveling, questing, and general death-dealing, all to get to a bare-minimum point of adequate strength and equipment.

Other players must also do the same.

Tank-and-spank fights just wont cut it anymore.

we decided to make it a stationary fight and use mechanics that would force the players to reposition themselves around her.

End-game raids do not favor the unprepared.

If every encounter was a brain-dead walk in the park, progression would be meaningless.

Part of the fun of raiding is figuring out how something works.

offering simplified versions of existing bosses. At the cost of dropping less impressive loot,

    Give every class their moment

Lol @Dazee wot r u doing??? You go to my suggestion threads and take a dump at my and other people's ideas, and then you share an article that reinforces all of the things we have been saying for ages...

I see you choose to view the article as you view everything else.

It is common to read game design articles as "Hey, I'm right". People who think that are usually wrong.

I might not be right but I know I'm more right than other certain loud people.
    And there you have it.

You two could actually discuss the issues instead of jumping onto personal attacks, you know. The moment you say something that amounts to basically "how dare you agree with me!", y'all need to step back and look at your own arguments.

Step one of being right is having an actual argument. Pointing out an article, without stating why you think it's relevant, isn't an argument. I assume you think it proves a point, but I can't even determine what point you think it proves (that article is, frankly, super-generic), let alone whether you're right.

Yeah I couldn't figure out the point of posting this after reading the article.

Also from the very start of the article:

Tank-and-spank fights just wont cut it anymore. The years when raid bosses were simplistic, inert damage sponges are behind us; nowadays, devising an exciting, distinctive concept will make the best foundation for a memorable boss encounter.

This is something CO does very well. From what I've experience no two boss fights are the same, especially in the Cosmic Level encounters.

    Also from the article:

End-game raids do not favor the unprepared. If your plan is to aggro a boss and just wing it, you may as well throw your gold away now and skip the whole gear-repairing process. But the demanding nature of high-end content creates an addictive gameplay loop of learning, planning, and executing with each new fight. If every encounter was a brain-dead walk in the park, progression would be meaningless. By requiring raid communication, continual reaction, and some strategic forethought, as Krausnick says, theres always something challenging to strive for--plus, you totally score bragging rights for world-firsts.

It's one of the greatest things the MMO genre can offerhaving to come together and function as a single well-oiled machine, says Hazzikostas. The process of both refining your big-picture strategy, and the individual execution of each of the moving parts of that machine to achieve [victory]--that's what keeps people coming back. Part of the fun of raiding is figuring out how something works.

CO does this actually BETTER, seeing as there is no gear failure in this game for failing a boss encounter.

I often find Gradii's conceit at times quite amusing.

Way too click baity what with the article spread out over 14 pages for no reason other than to throw a bunch of adds at the reader, I couldn't finish it. Read the first few pages, seemed like fairly standard stuff from what I saw.

It is fairly standard stuff. Just yet another article designed to get ad revenue spouting information that is well known and has been practiced in most modern MMOs for the past few years. Many things that Gradii has actually championed against because "he knows better than everyone" of course. Which tells me he didn't read the article himself while telling everyone in his first post to be sure to read the article.

Oh the irony dazee. Oh the irony. See the problem is, all you did was link an article and then say nothing... so what is it that you think you're "more right" about? the nothing that you didn't say?

ps - Lucas likes his games like he likes his music: eclectic. With all the weird and wonderful stuff he's played over the years, the two of you are bound to feel the same way about something!
