Tech Based Alien Warrior

So I'm trying to build a tanky character who uses laser swords and I'm honestly at a loss of where to start. I was kind of thinking of doing a PFF character because it's been so long so I even tried playing one but I want to have Energy Shield instead of Force Shield for thematic purposes and I'm not even sure if that's viable for the build. Any suggestions from any of the build gurus?

    Here's one of the many ways to build it. Note that its more of a sturdy hybrid than a formal tank atm:
