Stealth question

So I've noticed that Stealth seems to simply fail in lairs and the like. Does anyone know (or can point me to a thread discussing) the mechanics behind this? Is a just a blanket 'it won't work' or is it based on numbers one could boost until it did work?

what do you mean it simply fails? im able to use night avenger sneak fine, as well as threat wipes that put me in stealth. although maybe i am misunderstanding the issue.

The issue is that, for example, my level 40 with the Night Avenger passive at rank 3 enters the VIPER lair on Monster Island and turns on Sneak. The toon goes into 'stealth mode', walks down the corridor... and the first VIPER goons spot it and blast it as if stealth wasn't an issue.

Now the numbers on the toon in question are: Night Avenger Sneak grants +30 Aggression Stealth & +350 Perception Stealth. Dex is listed as granting +133% Aggression Stealth (no stat tool-tip mentions Perception Stealth).

So the question, in a proverbial nutshell, is this: would that toon be able to sneak past those VIPER guys if I loaded up on Dex (or some other method, if there is one, of boosting 'stealth numbers' or whatever is happening behind the curtain) or would that be a hiding to nothing and these guys are always going to spot that toon no matter what?

TLDR: what are the current mechanics around stealth and perception and bad guys in lairs?

I know this thread is nearly a month old, but it does not look like you found an answer. I have a couple of characters that utilize stealth and I have found that as I up the difficulty the enemies can begin to see me. If you look at the buff they get from difficulty boosts their perception is something that increases.

That said, I don't usually really have a problem being seen too early unless I am running in "Elite" difficulty.

All *tough* critters (which is most critters in alerts and 5-man lairs) are immune to stealth.
