Hey there peeps! I'm thinking on starting leveling an alt for when I get bored doing things with my main. The question is... Which AT is the best for leveling up fast and easy? The idea is turn the toon into a FF once it hits 40.
I'm not all that knowledgeable on the matter, so i'd say that's the one you're the most comfortable playing. For instance, i love the Invincible (Power Armor) AT for building a freeform, but as opposed to this, you will NEVER see me use the Archer AT ever again. It may suit the fighting style of some other players, but this one is definitely not for me ; thing is, i also don't like the visuals for it, and the bow weapon models are rather disappointing...
"Which AT is the best for leveling up fast and easy?"
The one that is carried by your level 40 friends...
None of them. You're better off using a leveling build as a FF. Most ATs have energy issues, are squishy-squishes, low damage, no self healing, no decent aoe, and/or some other problems that makes leveling ickly.
If you must use an AT for leveling, I'll say The Soldier. With heirloom gear, you'll get oodles of Ego which is what concentration and Insight scale off of for fewer energy issues. You also get SMG Burst for an AoE at low level. And you get shotgun blast early to prevent enemies from killing your squishy-squish toon.
If you plan on turning Freeform, start as freeform. The only reason to ever play an AT if power and ease of play are concerns for you is because you cannot afford a freeform character.
Currently, due to some bugs in how damage bonuses are applied, max dps builds are actually ATs -- but this is really only true for heavily geared level 40s.
It used to be the Grim for balance, but i got yelled at a couple weeks back in zone chat for bringing it up on the forums, some of the users complained that it was hit in a patch after i posted about it and its not very effective anymore. IDK, i use FF...so im afraid to say now openly, ask me in game for info and any tips/help you need.
...but be kind to cats, i hope nothing i said actually got it hit. =U.U=

only AT's I haven't got to 40 yet are Behemoth , penitent and the Hexslinger.
Ones I'd NOT use for fast levelling.
Inventor, radiant, behemoth(see energy probs), automatum.
grimoire is now slow since pillar is now less good as attack and your next AOE attack is either 30 or 35,
aggro magnets- fist, master, blade.
making an AT into a FF after 40 is rather a waste of time and more expensie
. write down all its powers and stats including spec trees. work out, with or without help, what you want to change and adjust it as you go
saves on retcon costs
I'd second the Soldier as one of the 'best' - you get Assault Rifle really early and can stick Accelerated Metabolism on it so you can pretty constantly stay at a nice (relatively) safe range 100 when fighting. At the top end you get both the Chaingun (for brilliant DPS) and the Sniper Rifle (for soloing the Q Zone and other open areas).
Marksman (the archer AT) is harder to play right, but very good at later levels: you want to choose Snap Shot when leveling, then retcon it out for Focused Shot at 40 ('cos sniper range is good, and all your standard fighting will be with Explosive Arrow + the Where's the Kaboom advantage anyway).
Those two (the Soldier and the Marksman) - both with Flight (well, one with Flight and one with a Jet Pack...) I've used to solo the two-man content of the Q Zone using flying sniper tactics.
Mountain is a solid ranged Tank - I'd say better than the Glacier, but that may just be me.
If you know about power armour slots and firing arcs (to avoid nasty surprises when your powers seem to just not work for no apparent reason) then the Automaton is surprising good for DPS and speed leveling - at 40 you're crit-fishing with an Orbital Laser, which is always nice... It's got a self-heal and the Chest Beam is a solid debuff too. When leveling if you engage mobs at long range you can knock-'em back with the Rocket Fist and blast them a few times as they're flying - you can generally pick off a standard-issue three-man mob before they get a shot off (although you need to be quick at your click-targeting to make the most of the tactic). Lack of a Block Enhancer hurts this AT though.

The Savage AT is a beast at Level 40 and great fun to level. I retconned a similar freeform build back into the AT to get the hang of the recent power changes in that set and I don't think I'm going to improve on it, so it's staying.
Otherwise: the Unleashed is a great Silver AT, and I like the Master - it's very durable.

I'll third the Soldier as a good AT choice. I'll also comment that once they fixed the bugs with Skarns, the new Grimoire level progression is probably better for leveling than the old one though it's still not something I'd suggest people play first due to how clicky it is.
"Interesting builds are born from limitations not by letting players put everything into one build."
Yeah... it took me a long time to figure out how to play Grim.... and the game in general simultaneously... also it made me develop a general dislike of sigils.

Ive tried it out once before, its a lot like having an old bunker kit from sto. But the attacks are very slow, and the aoe uses up a lot of energy. id still recommend it for your first archtype because it does have a heal power, and when your first learning the game you will need the heals until you get the feel of the gameplay.
Then yeah id recommend munitions for the ranged attacks, since it takes a bit more skill before you try melee classes as its more involved then a firing line.

yes , dropping skarnes to level 11, fixes the nothing between pillar and skarnes at 30.
grimoire,
drop sigils, use blast, run back, mobs get caught by sigils, block until they die or you redo the sigils.
add in spam skarnes when you get it.
I went for concentration and the energy circle when i had to redo it.
I honestly find melee more fun. It feels a lot like playing Street Fighter sometimes. Ranged DPS is the easy role in big boss fights generally. If the boss is distracted by a tank anyways.
