28 August, 2009. Made and deleted so many characters since then but I kept my first. I, like so many others here, have WAY too many hours in this game. =)

Started an account in 2014. Tried it out and didn't like it at first (got a free FF slot from those grab bags tho). Started again in March. So bottom line, 8 months and 3 days.
    It's a game, not a ****. Don't choke on it.

My oldest main characters Nightbane and Beerbane are from August 28, 2009. Played for a while alongside games like WoW, Cox, Tribes and others, ended up quitting CO for several years.

I think this is the biggest selling point of the Lifetime subscription. I came back to the game after Free-to-Play and had a load of stipend waiting for me to buy new stuff. Viva la LTS!

Depends on how they were made, I guess. I mean, I made Leapfrog, Bluestreak, and Frostfire back in the winter of '85/'86 - not in CO, obviously, but they were indeed Champions characters...

typo, thought i hit the 2 as well.

and john, in the late 8o's/early 90s i apparently played champions for a little bit, the character was a blatant golgo 13 rip off ( normal human who was a highly skilled sniper/well-above average martial artist). actually had made up another but my dm joined the army and didn't get to use her, but she later appeared in city of heroes, she was a stealthy human/chameleon hybrid called camille yin. i thought it was cute at the time. in cov she was a ninja blade/regen stalker.

Beta in late July, early August 2009, I did get to play it a GenCon before I got accepted into Beta, I think 2008. My toon I play was created in October 2009, she is the second character I created.

First character on page 1 is showing up as October 8, 2010, but I know I tinkered for a few days before he stuck... maybe the 5th or 6th would've been when I first logged on.

As a side note, it's really interesting to see the creation dates for page after page of characters. I've got gaps of as much as 6 months between toons, and then I'll notice that several of my favorite creations were all made on the same day or within a couple of days of each other. Funny how inspiration strikes.

September 8th, 2008 in the Alpha. I remember the date so clearly because it was just two days before my birthday that year. [And yes, my birthday this year is on Saturday]

On live on the first day of the three day head-start, which was Saturday, August 28th, 2009. Launch day was Tuesday September First, 09.

So, like a few other vets here, I've been here since before most of the zones were.

For the tabletop pen & paper game, oh since about .. 1984 -ish, a few years before the forth Edition Big Blue Book came out and made Champions [offline] one of my favorite games ever.

My first tabletop Champions character was essentially an elf mage who fell through a portal from a typical D&D world into a super hero one, as the GM at the time told me he'd love it if I played a wizard type character. It was sort of an alteration specialist, lots of self and other shape shifting and density shifting/density increase and decrease effects in a big multi-power power construct. and a Magic Missile spell.

It was actually built from a D&D character I'd played for that same DM in D&D, of course, I think I was totally lost while he was digging the challenge of the character creation process as a logical exercise.
  • jonsillsjonsills Posts: 6,315 Arc User
Yeah, I think I'd have that as a Multipower - or possibly, as suggested in the 3rd Ed, a Cosmic Point Pool with the Limitation Must Access Material Components/Spell Book.

I started in the 2nd round of closed Beta. Started Live the day it opened with an LTS account.

A funny aside story, my current main tank, Vengeancea (because "Vengeance" is prescribed thanks to it being taken by some obscure NPC who hardly ever appears), was the first character I made. I got her to 40 and then left here there because I could not figure out what to do with her. Then, when Cosmics dropped, there was finally a need for Tanks and opponents that did not always run out of melee range. So, I retconned her up to be a Cosmic tank and now she gets play pretty regularly.

I don't really have as many thousands of tricked out 40s as my time subscribing may indicate because there were many long stretches where I played very little thanks to an insane work schedule.

People have asked about my odd forum account name. When I first joined the game, I grabbed coach as my forum nickname. It's one I've been using for literally decades online, and I made an effort to make sure I registered as soon as I could to make sure I reserved it. Then, when PWE bought everything and migrated the forums for the first time, they disallowed my name. After a couple heated email exchanges, I set it as it is, now. I expected it to be disallowed, but they never bothered.

  • September 2009. I wanted to join the Beta but my laptop wasn't up to spec. Got a new one just after Open Beta ended and have been playing ever since.

I've been playing PnP Champions since the 1'st edition, and have played/GM'd every edition since.

What floored me is that I've met two people on CO who played Champs at the 1981 Pacificon where the PnP version debuted, so they predated even me. (That's brand loyalty!)

We just talking Cryptic MMOs here (played Ultima online long before CoH ), City of Heroes was the super hero mmo Cryptic made before they made Champions Online. CO* is a sort of kinda sequel to COH ^__^

*Champions Online started out as a Marvel game for the Xbox 360 , Microsoft pulled out they at the time and had the Marvel Online IP it all kinda went a bit crazy. CO was made from the ashes of that project.

Snowy the tanker? I remember running Rampages and Alerts with her. I commented how good a tanker you were once. I don't recall why it made an impression on me, other than that you didn't look like an average tanker (usually played as huge hulking beings) and that you could actually hold aggro.

Since Feb 10 2010, Started as a subscriber of course, then went Silver for a while when the game went F2P and I had "limited funds" aka.. got laid off went back to work, saved $200 bought LTS.

My current main character is a Remake of my very first character. I made the mistake of Conveting him to an AT when my sub lapsed and I couldn't make him freeform again so I ended up deleting him and Remaking him, with a few minor changes like the new Gravitic Ripple and Gravity Driver powers... He's an AOE beast.

I like it, I didn't really expect so many people to respond and it's nice to find out a little more about the people we are conversing with. In fact, as a result of this thread, I have started to stop and say hello to a few more folks in-game now.

It's actually a nice oasis of calm compared to a lot of the arguing that has been going on page after page, pretty much all about the same thing, in a lot of the other threads recently.

It would be great if it could stay that way.
